Part 2 here - • Cub Cadet HDS 3186? - ... I snagged this Cub Cadet riding mower on craigslist. Of course it doesn't run. Can we fix it? Check out Mustie1 - / mustie1
Want to replace your fuel line? Here's what I used. Klein hose clamp pliers - amzn.to/2KpkVMK Dayco 1/4" fuel line (made in USA) - amzn.to/2MUuk0O The hose clamps are cheapest through McMaster Carr. 5324K12 (Rotor Clip HC-8)
I have this same machine. Looks fairly identical with subtle differences; mine is a power shaft gt3200 😉😍🥳🙏👏 Please also tell me where the damnable oil drain plug is? 🥴🤣 And how much length of fuel line did you use, you never said? I commented before to ask but dont know where it went. If you could respond asap, that'd be awesome, I'm in the middle of this similar job right now 😅
Your channel is much better than other one mentioned and not just because I tired of watching carburetor float bowls being cleaned. You read the service manuals and show respect for professional solutions. McGuyver fixes can be impressive, but sometimes bailing wire and chewing gum are the wrong answer.
I was like dang that gas looks really fluorescent. Thanks for not editing that out haha keeping it real. On the bright side the diesel probably washed the cylinder and lubed the rings for ya 😝
If there were clamps on it to begin with, it’s a good idea to keep some on there. I’ve had a situation where just the pressure build up in the tank in the summer pushed a fuel line off it’s fitting. The fitting wasn’t barbed, but a slight bulge around the circumference. It definitely needed a clamp behind that to hold the line on.
i enjoyed this video, and if you make more ill be watching them, Mustie1 is my favorite youtuber to watch your coming a close 2nd or 3rd so keep it up look forward to your next video. M@x
Running about $250.00 in your case not running under $100.00 Musty gets a lot of stuff like that free. No deals like that around here. I agree with your father 1500 hours is the end of the world with those. We switched to liquid cooked diesel tractors over 20 years ago for this reason. I can get 3000 to 5000 hours on an F series Kubota easily and fuel consumption is probably almost half.
When I was a kid I had a mowing job in the summer. We had a John Deere 345 gasser and a 455 diesel. They used about the same amount of fuel per hour, but the 455 was mowing a foot more than the 345. Old mowers are worth a little more here I guess. $100 might get you a stamped out two blade unit. You never see them for free.
Thinking about it, I am pretty sure that Governor Pritzker just instituted a new tax on the purchase of used lawn equipment. $400 sounds more reasonable now. $200 for the mower and $200 for the state of Illinois. Yep, that sounds about right.
Most deck no matter the brand if you don’t clean the deck and the up keep on blades tire pressure is a must for a level deck as wellwell gas will thin it and will be ok
@@WatchWesWork They were overpriced. But they were also great mowers when serviced properly. The decks were made from thicker materials and so on. I liked the older models better than the newer ones.
I know this video came in a long time ago, but I hope you didn't sink that much money into it. A mower that age and in that condition is worth maybe $200, at best. I fix and flip a lot of them, so you definitely have to choose your battles carefully on one that age, and don't buy anything from a dealer if you have a cheaper option. Otherwise, you will take a loss. Your father was absolutely right though. You can normally get about 1500 hours out of a small engine. I have a Craftsman riding mower with a Kohler engine that has 1599 hours on it. The starter solenoid just went out and it needs new drag links, but it is still in great condition beyond that.
@@tylerpaul4364 I'm not sure where Wes lives but around here (Massachusetts) you can pick up a running 20HP tractor for $300, sometimes you can get them for free I pick them up all the time. Right now I have 3 ariens and 3 craftsman well to be fare I bought 2 of the ariens new
Nice Mustie1 reference, I found your channel from whatching his, good to see UA-camrs promoting each other. Enjoy your channel, keep doing what you do and keep the camera rolling.
Well done !! First time watcher. Liked what you did and your honesty. Ida paid $200 for it being a non runner. Mustie1 is a fave of my UA-cam channels - good job following his kind of “shtick”!
Interrupted but the phone. For you this is all you need. I like the power steering. Nice machine. Change the oil often keep the filters clean and it will last another 20 or probably more years. Take care Wes
@@WatchWesWork I think I have seen Mustie put some diesel in the cylinder if it had not ran in a while. So a little a couple of ounces should not be a problem.
I too am a fan of Mustie1, I envy his hoard, I can't build a stash like his yet, but I want to! I would see what Craig'slist and eBay have to offer before I'd contact Cub Cadet. Mustie could teach you how to stretch your dollars! Kreosene (Diesel fuel is kerosene with paraffin wax to lubricate the pump and injrctors) won't run in a gas engine, but it's the best out of any other fluid to make that mistake with! Nice find Wes!
Unfortunately, parts for this rig are quite a bit more expensive and harder to come by than parts for the smaller machine Mustie generally tinkers with.
I was wondering why your gas was bright green. As a mechanic, how did you not catch that? You realize they have different colored gas cans for that reason, right?
I’m an expert on these Cub’s and it was fun watching you stumble through that. I buy them in that condition for around $400. BTW it’s a Kohler Command engine, not a Briggs. They are known to leak and blow up at an early age. Keep an eye on your oil level.
Well for it to have a swig of a little diesel it brought everything back around with it being oily. As seen from Derek on his VGG channel, he uses 50:1 two stroke fuel for the initial bark off to lube things. Lol no harm no foul it ran🤷♂️
Don't know if this will help him or anyone else I have a squirt bottle I make sure is getting fire then I'll take the Breather off I'll get the squirt bottle spray it in the Breather if it cranks up I know is a fuel problem
I'd say a 100 to a $150 in condition you got it in. That's in my neck of the woods. Just think the besils rubricated the top end really really good. And must I one is a big fan of those constant tension clamps

Seems like UA-cam only recommends channels and videos that are already popular. I suppose that includes Mustie. But you never know.
SOS... stuff on a shelf... you’re killing me, that was unexpectedly funny. Absolutely loved it.
Ya Mustie1 does have a lot of cool videos, great to enjoy

Ha, I actually thought it was Mustie1 video.
I can't do the Boston accent.
I did to when I saw the title! LOL
looking for a cub cadet 3000 series 3186 for parts in texas .
Gday
nice something like that here ppl want gold here $400-1000 and there normally in vic like 800-900k drive away lol
cheers
Why don't you pressure wash the stuff before you work on it?
👍
Great video Wes! Those Cub Cadets hardly ever come up for sale around here as people refuse to let them go!

10:48 just put it in reverse and it will spit the diesel out in the tank again :)
Don't feel bad I put Karosine in my gas golf cart sounded like crap lol
Should be a parts list under on hood
Not on this model.
Yes, throw everything you have at us. It's getting boring out here.
Is a Kohler Command
Yes.
Entertaining but you’re certainly not at the same level as Mustie1. But then again not many are. Thanks
Every hoard has to start somewhere.
150 is what i would had paid
Damn that thing is a shit pile. I don't have the patience to work on shit that is that shitty.

Well it was supposed to be. You'll see in the other video.
Non running? I wouldn't pay anything for it

Who puts diesel in a red container? Thought it was supposed to go in yellow?🤣🤣🤣
Diesel cans are Yellow for a reason.
Yup.
We have black, green or red. As long as you know what's in it, it doesn't matter.
Some chuckle head tried to run it on diesel, lol
always keep fuel in the propper container saves you from a fueling mistake
I’m glad you know Mustie1 :)
As far as I know it’s a stash if his wife doesn’t know about it. If she does it’s a hoard :) but don’t quote me on that.
I’m glad you didn’t edit the diesel part out. We’re all human, this makes me feel better about some of the mistakes I have made being so focused
You know if you flip that air cleaner lid you can hear the secondaries come in... just kidding. 😑
What if you flip the Koehler/cub cadet air filter over onto your small block V-8? I bet you could really hear it pulling air.lol

He makes the Moldy guy look silly.
Commentary from my 84 year old dad. ‘Why the hell didn’t he clean off that gas (diesel) tank. You think he would for National TV’
And yes that is a Kohler nit a Briggs. I could tell that the second I saw it.
Awesome.
They are pretty decent motors. The older Kohler motors are pretty hard to kill plenty of life left in it.
This is awesome. 2 musties, twice the videos.

The additives in the diesel will clean-up that carb for you :)
Sounds like a good enough excuse!
Gotta use clamps, wouldn't want the fuel to come out under pressure and start a fire! ;-)
