Once again 2 trucks I cannot afford 😊
Lmao me too. He needs to start reviewing 10 year old plus trucks 😂
Wait until you’re old like me (55) then you can start affording this stuff 😜
I feel like I will get a bill just for watching…😂
I disagree about the HD with an IFS. If I were doing construction or line hauling I agree, but for a fifth wheel or weekend warrior the IFS is great.
Everything you said, plus Ram pricing itself out of the market. I can't believe I'm saying this, but GMC is the winner here.
JB how often do you really move the convex mirrors? A huge win...lol. come on dude. I drive a semi truck for nearly 30 years and hardly ever move my spot mirror. Plus HD truck with independent front suspension has its place. The H1 Hummers are all independent suspension and every top end side by side.
My thoughts exactly. GM's mirrors also look slightly bigger. And yeah, IFS is acceptable for most applications.
GMC now also offers the AT4X trim for the Sierra HD, which has an optional winch available on AEV Bison equipped versions. Also, the AT4 has the G80 automatically locking rear differential.
Great review, the AT4 X will be a game changer also. I just got back from a 4000 mile trip hauling my 39 foot Travel Trailer from East Texas to Colorado, in the heart of the Rockies, Leadville, and back. Towing with our 2024 3500 AT4 and it was awesome. I mean we went thru Wolf Creek pass, the twisty drive from Durango to Ouray and up I-70 thru the Ike tunnel without a glitch, 21,800 lb total weight truck and trailer. And with all that towing, we were able to go over Haggerman Pass offroad trail from Leadville to Basalt and it did great, this would be considered a moderate trail, the G80 locked up when needed and it was awesome at over 12000 feet. So I can say, you can tow your rig and offroad in the AT4. Cheers
Do you happen to know a rough mpg? I'm looking at buying a 23 2500hd in patriot blue in a year, curious what the mpg looks like
Jb the at4 has an automatic axle lock
I have the Chevrolet 2500, 2024, with the towing package. 3500 springs and frame. The engine changes are for real, the truck is for real. Wouldn’t get a Ram, they seem cheap.
Lol. I bet dogging the Ram made you break out into hives lol.
It’s true though. Ram has been a distant last place since 2020. I think they have been last place longer than that but without question since 2020.
Also GM trucks almost all have the G80 which is an automatic mechanical locker. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a newer GM not have it.
Once again…all the great information I needed 👍🏾
Turns out the Ram Rebel 2500 Cummin's was perfect for me; and I have long since been a GM fan. If you're towing 13.5k pounds or less, the Rebel HD Cummin's will be just fine. If you need more than that, than you may need to consider another version of the Ram or a competitor. What also works better for me is the Ram 2500 length at 238.8", versus GM and Ford's 3/4 ton trucks at 250" long. My 1500 Silverado ZR2 was only about 6 inches shorter than the Ram 2500 Rebel and for me, that's the difference between getting it in the garage and parking outside. Perhaps this reduced load and towing have brought the Ram 2500 Rebel market down somewhat overall, but what that meant for me was a huge discount on a brand new 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel with the Cummin's and I couldn't be happier with the truck!
I enjoyed your review, as I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 2500 Rebel 6.4L gasser. There are no "perfect" trucks, but we still keep looking for them... right? I considered all your "cons" of the RAM and asked myself if they outweighed the "pros" that you listed and decided that, for my intended purposes, they did not. Lastly, I don't understand the comments about "cheapness" of the RAM builds. I wish those commenters would point to specific "cheap" characteristics of the truck so I could investigate and decide for myself.
Hi JB. I’m looking at 2 GMC’s soon. I love the Cummins engine & the styling of the GMC. The GMC’s GVWR is 14,000& 16,000. However, the vehicle I need to tow is going to be 15-20,000. It’s a 47 Dodge truck. would like your opinion on the Ram & GMC.
If I could afford it, rather get GMC over Ram.
@9:12, Don't forget, if we are bringing up the "Power wagon" from RAM, the GMC offers an AT4X that has front and rear locking differentials and will offer a AVE package that will have upgraded bumpers, skid plates and optional winch 🙂 I do like your reviews, but you seem to pick and choose random details of each brand with no equal details from the other, it sounds like you're "fanboying" ! So just some advice, if you make references about the Power wagon or the Adrenaline from Ford, keep in mind that those packages line up with the AT4X and ZR2 . The Rebel, FX4 AT4 and Z71 are true competitors!
Also, GMC is made in USA, Ram is made in Mexico, so just for that reason give me the GMC 🙂
The 2024 GMC AT4X AEV package looks unreal… a HD truck that has amazing off road capabilities? No brainer…. GMC wins this, but with a hefty price tag
$80k-$90k trucks have no business in the woods. Get a side by side for off-road.
Winch not available on the Dodge with the Cummins; only the Hemi V*8
I feel like the lower mirror is adjusted when you buy it and never touched again…am I wrong??
If im not mistaken the ram 2500 and 3500 have the same frame so no need to "beef" it up but agree with the other statements. Ram is now lacking.
Thanks tht really helped!! 👍
I enjoy your video!
13:07 Why is conventional trailer capacity only 12k and 1200lbs tongue? Is this a typo on GM's part. All charts I've seen has it rated much higher for AT4 trim
I'm curious about this as well. The chart on GM authority shows 16k for the 2024 2500 & 3500 crew cab standard bed AT4 6.6L gas.
I'm leaning toward the GMC, but a few details you didn't discuss. The Cummings makes much more power at lower rpm's and the GMC/Chevy are not running true Allisons.
The transmission has to be at Allison's standards, or they would not brand the name on the trucks. And gm trucks have the torque in the low gears
GM's transmission is Allison approved however.
Conventional towing is so low on the gmc 12000 lbs and 1200 max tongue weight 😂.....this is f 150 spec
You must be talking about the Ram
JB you drive a Chevy/GMC tho lol
The Fiat’s have too many electrical issues. I’ll take the GMC. 😂
Not even Fiat anymore, Stellantis now. Junk.
Isnt Ford pumping out 1200ftlbs on the diesel option? Thats a significant difference if your paying this kind of money.
The 1200 ft lbs doesn't translate. It wins on paper but in head to head tests it doesn't justify the different in price between the dmax and the powerstroke. As well, 1200ft lbs hurts reliability to the drive train. Fords transmissions are running at 220+ degrees when heavy towing while the Allison stays around 200. Huge difference.
@@matthowell7380 you think Ford would pump out 1200ftlbs knowing it would hurt the drivetrain? My work mate has a dinotested F350 pushing 1500ftlbs , zero reliability issues and thats with the stock drivetrain. Gale Banks had to be recruited by GM just to get the Dmax to reliably make the 900 and change foot lbs out of the Dmax. My F550 service truck handles 1000ftlbs with no isssues and it gets beat in an open pit mine with the transmission coated in mud 24/7. Your average buyer of these trucks dont tow anywhere near max gvw , its lake lot trips n beer runs. So ya, if your dumping that kind of money having 1200ftlbs vs 975 is a big deal. But maybe a towing test up the Ike Gauntlet will sort it out. 2024 vs the other 2024 models.
@@panthermartin7784 Yes they would pump out 1200 ft lbs causing reliability issues because people don't keep new trucks for more then 5 years, then trade up to the newest model. It's all about marketing. Ike gauntlet showed the new power strove beating the duramax by 11 seconds which is not a lot when you consider the power difference as well the trucks trans ran 20 degrees hotter then the Allison so it is what it is.
The difference is the Duramax has more usable power, mainly down low where you'd want it. Ford and Ram restrcits the amount of torque available at the low end unlike GM. The 1200 ft lbs figure is mostly there for bragging rights, the HO powerstroke in reality isn't much better than the Duramax. This is evident from a recent IKE comparison between the two, the Chevy was able to keep up respectively and do certain things better even. The HO powerstroke is not as impressive as the numbers suggest, and is rather overhyped.
@@matthowell7380dmax runs 10 seconds slower up the Ike compared to the power stroke, fords numbers don't add up,and in a drag race the dmax wins ,so ya Ford sucks shit on reliability and quality, they have more issues than any other auto maker.
That GMC is what a great truck looks like…? 🤮To each their own but I think those things look stupid.
Poor 🐏 ☠️ 😂
On the rear of the interior it only looks like the GMC has more room. Its because the seat bottoms themselves are not near as deep on the GMC. Having owned a crew cab RAM and now a crew cab GMC its a noticeable difference and the RAM seats in the rear are significantly and i mean significantly more comfortable and the rear seat legroom is pretty much the same. Completely agree with you on the console on the GMC, the RAM blows it away in every way.
Ram's cab is noticeably smaller, same with their beds.
You’re wrong about that atleast on the 2020+ GMs. The Ram crew cab is a lot smaller on the inside. GM also gives you more front seat travel too.
The Ram crew cabs are several inches shorter overall compared to a GM.
@@matthewanderson9912 Not my perception after owning both. I had a 2019 RAM and now own a 2024 GMC 3500. I can tell you definitively the rear seats in the RAM are a lot more comfortable. I notice no difference in leg room but i do notice the deeper seat bottom and the seat back that reclines a little where the GM is very straight up and down. Overall i don't really see any difference in the cab size, if there is any its not enough to notice.
I also will tell you in the front the RAM has a lot more foot room for the driver. The GM has a huge bump in the floor where the left foot rest is and its really pronounced almost to the point of annoyance because you cant really straighten your left leg.
Another direct comparison, the RAM front seats are way better. They are wider, softer and a lot more comfortable. Just to keep it apples to apples im comparing the seats in my 2019 RAM limited to the ones in my 2024 Denali Ultimate so both are top trim level packages.
I like my new truck but as an owner of both. GM still has a ways to go to catch RAM in the interior game.
@@TDub_ADV so when you say 2019 Ram are you referring to a 1500? Because if so then yes, the 2019 has a very similar sized crew cab as a GM and Ford.
But the HD Rams have a physically smaller cab than the 1500 Ram because they didn’t get the updated cab in 2019. They are using the same cab from 2010. This video is about HD trucks and in HD trucks the Ram is much smaller.
I’ve not been inside a 2019+ 1500 Ram so I can’t say one way or the other on the front or back. But I know without question a 2019+ 2500 Ram is much smaller than a 2020+ GM, both front and rear. And also the GMs have a full size rear seat so I’m not sure what you’re meaning about a small seat cushion. The Ram HDs actually doesn’t have a full size seat in the back. The middle section is indented for whatever reason.
The “bump” in the driver side floor is a foot rest, sort of like a dead pedal. It’s designed that way. I guess it does take some getting use to maybe but it is intended to rest your left foot on. To each their own and that kind of stuff though.
@@matthewanderson9912 No 3500. And honestly i never looked up the actual sizes until now so ill concede and say the cab on the GM is bigger. What i will not concede is that in actual real life the RAM does not feel any smaller at all when you are in it so i'm not sure how a couple of inches really matters other than turning it into a dick measuring contest.
The bottom line if you actually spent time in both the GM simply cannot compete with the RAM interior. The RAM seats are more comfortable both front and rear. it has a way more useable console area, more dash storage(the upper glove box in the GM is tiny) and a more useful underseat in the rear. And yea that footrest blows, way too intrusive on the GM.
Like i said i like my Denali but its far from perfect and honestly if i had a choice i would probably have a F450 or RAM 3500 DRW in my driveway, problem is i needed to go from a SRW to a DRW for payload for my new 5th wheel and after waiting for months and months on a custom order F450 with no build date i could no longer wait for it so i pulled the trigger on the GMC since i could actually get one.
The ram is so ugly. So cheap..
Both junk! Ram is the junkiest!
gm has an auto locking rear axle
The only thing I don’t like about the current ram mirror is the convex. I don’t like the light robs you of about 2 1/2 inches worth of mirror. I’m told that there is a base model version without the light that gives you a bigger convex though. If so I’d personally go that route
you forgot to mention that GMC has automatic 4 wheel drive and Ram doesn't
Not everyone wants a clutch pack in a heavy duty t-case.
Another great & informative video JB. I have to admit GM has really upped their game. The truck looks great & the inside is very nice. I have always liked RAM & now that I own one I love the growl of the Cummins & the gnarly exhaust brake. But if I were buying a truck today I would have to give the GMC some VERY serious consideration. I still like the looks of the Ram front end the best but that GMC is right there!
Wish we could get the GMC with that Cummins as I too am a huge fan of that straight 6 diesel growl.
The GMC AT4 has a G80 so, it will lock up but, it will take a few seconds to lock up if one or both of your rear tires starts slipping.
G80 is and has been in most of not all 08 gm trucks and suvs my 13 Tahoe had the g80 that’s the automatic locking rear diff
Remember back in the good old days, 2015, when you could get a pretty nice truck for under $50k?
I remember when trucks were less than $15,000. ( I bought a decent z71 King cab with leather , sprayed in bed liner, leather , bug shield etc in 2017 for $41,000.
2020 2500 HD AT4 owner. Simply the best truck I have ever owned. Not perfect, but then again, no manufacturer actually makes a "perfect" HD truck. Was thinking about a new one, but they are NOT cheap! I can get a great price for my truck right now, but the cost of a replacement makes it basically a non-issue.
I have seen about three 2024 GMC Sierra's on the road so far and about one or two Chevy 2024's as well
How big a trailer do you really need to tow.
Good vid! Now let's see an off road performance comparison of the same two vehicles.
The axle lock is automatic
what's the difference between the ram 2500 and 3500 besides the springs?
You can only get HO diesel with Asian transmission on 3500s.
The Ram got a diesel
Ram still has a nicer looking truck. Can't stand the step bumper on gmc or the steps in the side of the box . Can't beat a straight 6 engine either. either
You can beat the new version of the 6.7 cummins. They went from solid lifter tappets with adjustable valve lash to hydraulic lifters. They are grenading at very low mileage just like the 7.3 godzilla ford gasser and every other piece of junk engine design post 2005ish with failing roller hydraulic lifters. For once ram has the best transmission in most of their modern trucks. We shall see though. Hopefully I won't have to rebuild these engines due to this failure for 15 years...
Maybe Ram is looking out for people who tow. Different laws in different states. Keeping that GVWR number low is fine. 😉😉
Bro I just found your videos and while I’m late to the truck game, I’ve done my fair share of research and you go all in unlike anyone else I’ve watched.
Your video didn't show what the payload of the Ram actually was - could not read it.
You have two 🚚 that tow, but you didn't! Why not? 🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Both TOO expensive! Also I do not like those pointy headlights on the AT4
The new GM HD front ends look to 1500ish to me like the 23s better
Enough of these crew cabs show us single cab long bed :P
You have two mud 🏃🏿, but you didn't show that!
You can get a Rebel 1500 in a G/T Pkg
I have 14 vehicles in the fleet. Our heavy hauler is a ram 3500 HO diesel which replaced a ford F550. It has been 3 years and zero problems. We slowly have been replacing all of our ford F150/E350 and GMC 3500 Savanahs with Toyota Tundra’s with caps. We add air bags to the rear and Old Man Emu HD suspension on the front and can put HD wing plows on the front and can haul 10k dump trailers all day. Change the oil, the brakes, the tires, and we never have a problem with those Toyotas. It’s like a three-quarter ton.
So you're telling me that you've replaced 3500 series trucks with tundras on air bags and they work better? I find that hard to believe. Remember air bags don't increase your axle capacity. Be careful and keep in mind you're driving alongside other people on the road.
Did GM ever fix the power folding mirror motors? They failed at around 50,000 miles on my 08 Sierra and 16 Silverado. Clearly some planned obsolescence going on there. Especially considering how the dealer wanted about 1k to fix.
I drive my 2020 2500 Denali until 150,000miles with no issues and, knock on wood, my 2021 2500 Silverado has 110,000 miles and still going strong.
I have no idea why RAM is so expensive. I ordered a 2024 Silverado 3500LT with leather and basically every option available for around $65k. A RAM 2500 Big Horn with just he screen upgrade is $67k. I currently own a RAM 1500 and its a nice truck but for how behind they are in the cab and drivetrain they should be thousands cheaper than a GM.
My thoughts EXACTLY. I used the nada guide and priced out an almost fully loaded Chevy 3500 LTZ Z71. Then I priced out a similarly equipped 3500 Laramie. It was missing a few features that the Chevy had and was EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS MORE. For no reason.
I think Ram let the 9's and first places from Car & Driver and Consumer Reports go to their heads.
What year 1500?
@@robertsoria9293 2014 Ram 1500 big horn
@@Tool0GT92 thats why you think theyre behind bro. Lol my 19 limited puts GM to shame. GM just caught up. Ramis refreshing them this next yr
Stellantis increased their msrp above 48% from 2019 to present, according to CarEdge, while US inflation increased 24%. That is why Ram prices are so high.
Good intel, thanks.
I hear that the upcoming AT4X comes with manual locking rear (only) differential.
Correct.
Which is faster?
And, I wonder if the HD AT4X will have the max towing package; because I don’t think that there will be a 3500 version available.
I think their is a 3500 platform for it
@@fireflyraven2760 Well, that would be good.
1. Tremor
2. AT4
3. Rebel
GMC look to fancy for my taste. Love the Ram
What’s wrong with independent front suspension? I thought is was good
for off road the rigid axle is better
Nothing's wrong with it. GM has been using it for decades and reports of catastrophic failures are basically non existent.
There's more components that do wear out faster if you really work the truck hard (like, guys that do snow plowing on a regular basis prefer solid front axels) but the trade off is you get a more comfortable ride and better steering feel.
@@fernandocancino7800technically true. But heavy duty trucks are not very good off road anyway. Too much weight.
I had a couple friends that would make fun of my zero issues independent suspension but the joke was on them since the one with a Ford ended up having severe death wobble and the one with a Ram had to rebuild his entire frontend.
