  • The easiest way to straight cut metal sheet. In this video You'll see how to build a straight cutting angle grinder jig. I have been trying to do it in the simplest and easiest way, using minimum of elements. To make this usefull product You'll need: 3 screws, 2 nuts and about 25x15cm metal plate. If You'll have any questions - You know what to do. Have fun!

I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

Thanks for the simple and practical idea to cut along a straight line with an angle grinder.
You have used a threaded rod and two nuts to raise and lower the grinder. Though it works, when you raise and lower the grinder, it moves left and right of the straight line. Even though this movement is very small, you can use a plain rod and two low-cost ball bearings and improve the accuracy.
Looking forward to watching the video of the improved version.

Put some tinny roller at the backside of the plate for smooth gliding. You can use roller from salvage printer. My idea came out as i see you pushing with lot of friction.

Moving it up and down drives the grinder left and right because pivot is threaded.

The real way to cut straight is practice, carefully score the line you wanna cut making a sligth channel, next cut all the way through and follow the channel without rotating the angle grinder, if the channel is hard to follow then try and cut in a bit deeper

Im wondering if you can keep the cutting disc parallel to the guiding edge (the outer edge) of the jig? As I can see, there is no such thing to stop the grinder from pivoting around two connecting bolts.

    • @thelastgs-pian9965
      @thelastgs-pian9965 2 роки тому

true, theres only a single bolt to stop that motion, i tried making one but the disc is not exactly parallel to the outer edge.

i've seen a bunch of these , and by far this looks like it will work the best, when they try to make them too complex, is where it leaves room for error, very simple design, straight ,square , plunge saw, 1 and done,, send this to bosch, tell them this is how they should have made their CS10 saw

Love the ingenuity. The hilarious, ironic part of this project is the freehand cut of the base plate. As this has to be dead on square and the dude can easily cut it freehand, logic would dictate he'd never need the guide he built. If you don't possess that level of skill (like me), perhaps have a machine shop cut a perfect rectangle to start with.

    Hi,
Great idea in bringing out this video,
    I find two suggestions
    1. A support should be there in the front to hold the fixture or
    2. The length of the bottom guide, support what ever you call should be increased at least double the existing length.
Reason: other wise the pressure while in action may topple or run out of control from your hand
Moral: Great but little change is apriciated

You could try brazing it, just need a decent propane torch and some rod compatible with the metal you're using. It should hold well since it's not a lot of force.
