The night was dark, though Emma insisted on driving through the gently falling snow.
It had become an overriding imperative in her heart. That upon arrival she would finally find something, anything, to pull the cover from her memories.
To know the girl she had seen in her dream, before they had turned her into a half-human machine.
To remember the life she once had with her adopted mom. With a glance at the sleeping older teen beside her, Emma smiled fondly at the young woman who had become a sister to her.
Whatever she might find, it wouldn't change the truth of the family she now had.
The grey rover rolled quietly down the snow-shrouded highway, a speck of light and warmth amid the cold, dark landscape.
    She was going home.

Dude, all these songs are like Trap beats without the 808's. I'm literally putting my own random beats over this at the same tempo and holy fuck, this music is amazing for trap beats.

Greetings. May I ask how is your writing, good fellow? I feel somewhat curious, mayhaps you'll share a story with me given you have published it somewhere in the depths of Internet or in any way would be eager to share it? If it is set in the same atmosphere as the song, I would be delighted to read it with a little cup of Hungarian wine :).

Krzysztof Skrzypek I haven't published it yet; in fact I'm not even finished (it's an ambitious project - a novel of about 45 chapters, split into three parts). However, I have been wanting to get some opinions on my writing, so, if you will, may I share some excerpts from some of my chapters with you here in the comments?

    • @krzysztofskrzypek8373

***** Whoa! That's pretty impressive and really, really ambitious. Of course, feel free to do so. I am more of a reader than a writer, so I don't think I will be able to give you precise advices of what to improve or change, but I will try to give some general feedback, why not.

Perfect! A reader's perspective is almost more valuable than a writer's because it is for the readers that the writing is being done. Here we go - I'll try to pick excerpts that fit with the music, but there might be a few that would fit better with different music.
      Excerpt from Protector, Chapter 1:
It was the clearest, brightest night since winter had begun. The stars and moon shown brightly out of the clear, cloudless sky, flooding the mountains with an eerie bluish light. Shaped millions of years earlier by melting glaciers, the mountains were dotted with sizable clumps of forest, rivers, steams, lakes, and small valleys here and there. The highest peaks were capped with snow, but elsewhere only a glittering layer of frost and the bare branches of all but the pine trees testified to the presence of winter in these mountains. Except for the faintest traces of long gone roads scattered everywhere, there was no trace that the mountain range had ever been settled. However, at the bottom of one small valley lay the ruins of a stone structure.
Though it must at one time have been magnificent, there was now nothing left but an empty shell formed by crumbling walls and archways. Abandonment to the forces of nature had reduced the building to rubble.
Within the ruins themselves there was mostly stone, though there were some places where traces of wooden tables or shelves could be found. Normally the place was empty except for plants and animals, but on this night three figures, two male and one female, could be seen rummaging through the fallen stones as though they were looking for something. At intervals, they would call to each other to check on their progress. They made little attempt to be discreet, believing that they were alone in the ruins.
But they were wrong. A fourth figure was hiding in the ruins, watching them from behind a crumbling wall.
      Excerpt from Protector, Chapter 2:
But then the orc’s smile began to falter as the human’s natural thoughts started to gradually fade from his perception. The connection did not appear to be lost; the new thoughts from the orc’s master were as easy to implant as ever, but he was losing the ability to see the human’s natural thoughts. This had never happened before. Every time the orc and his master had telepathically attacked the human in the past they could see into his mind from the start of the attack to the finish, but now something had gone wrong. The orc thought and concentrated hard, wondering how the victim’s thoughts could have escaped them…
      “Enough!”
He started as the voice entered his head, wondering where that simple word came from. It certainly was not one of his own thoughts, nor did it sound as though it had come from his master. So who’s voice was it?
He heard the voice a second time, louder now than it had been the first time: “I said that’s enough! Stop now!”
The connection was not closing, but the orc noticed that it was becoming harder and harder to implant thoughts into the human’s mind. It was then that it dawned on him. The only possible explanation the orc could think of was that somehow, incredibly, the human had discovered the connection. And now he was resisting.
“I have not forgotten the last time we had dealings. I will not be put through that again. Go away!”
The orc balked at these words. The last time they had dealings? What could this human possibly mean by that? There last dealings had been another round of telepathic attacks, and that time, as in every time until now, the human had not detected the assault.
      “I said leave! NOW!”
The orc growled in exhasperation as he felt the connection growing fainter and fainter. He struggled to maintain it, but it was slipping out of his grasp. As the orc made one last effort to keep it unbroken, he felt himself fall forward onto the table before the connection closed.
      Excerpt from Protector, Chapter 4:
As soon as the orcs saw the militiamen they came together in a loose formation, raised their shields, and began jogging forwards without breaking ranks. Those of the militiamen with bows began firing at the orcs, bringing down a significant number in the front ranks, but the orcs kept coming forward in force. Instinctively, the thirty militiamen facing them began backing into the village. Within minutes, the orcs clashed into them.
The militiamen found themselves being pushed back forcefully by the shields of the orcs in the front ranks. Every time one of them would strike out against one of the Imperial soldiers the orc would use his shield as a weapon, pushing or throwing the militiaman backwards with a powerful bash of their shield. For some this was fatal. As they staggered back from the force of the bash, many were stabbed or slashed with the swords or spears of the orc who had bashed them. Endré was one of the luckier ones, or perhaps one of the smarter ones. As he saw one of the orcs coming upon him, shield raised ready to strike, he used his barrel lid to push back before thrusting forward with his fighting knife. His knife came into contact with the orc’s shield and rebounded off. Knowing what was coming, he raised his own shield, which prevented him from being bashed in the face.
Unfortunately, it did not prevent him from being pushed to the ground. He found himself lying flat and looking up at the soldier, who was pointing his sword down at him in a threatening position. Endré raised his shield to protect himself from the incoming stab, but at that moment he heard a voice shout, “Stand down!”
Excerpt from Protector, still Chapter 4:
The fight was over, and the orcs had clearly won.
“Line them up,” shouted the orcs’ commanding officer. The few remaining militiamen dropped their weapons and the orcs forced all of the village’s defenders into a line. Endré looked out at the orc soldiers. All of them were wearing a red tunic, trousers, and boots. They also wore round-topped helmets with guards for the cheeks and neck, and each one carried a short double-edged sword, a shield, and a dagger. About one in every three was also armed with a spear. Some of them were wearing iron breastplates, and those who weren’t were wearing thick leather jerkins. The officer also wore bracers on his wrists and a black plume on top of his helmet. None of the regular soldiers had this plume.
      Excerpt from Protector, Chapter 6:
“I see,” he said. They sat there in silence for a few minutes, until the woman rose to leave. As she was about to go, the man asked, “What is your name?”
      “Lanor.”
“Well, Lanor, I wish you all the best.” She looked back at him briefly and then began walking down the street. He continued watching her until she began to fade - until, in fact, his surroundings as a whole began to fade away and everything around him became dark. The piece of wood on which he had been sitting became a mattress of wool, with a blanket over him. The blue garment he had worn became a loose, ragged nightshirt, and the town around him became the inside of a small cottage at night. The sword and crossbow he had been carrying were leaning against the wall in a corner, the fire he had been warming his hands at had moved to a fire pit outside, so that now he could see only its flickering light through the window, and he was drenched in sweat and hyperventilating.
It took the man a few minutes to recover from the shock of his dream. He was no stranger to dreams, but this one was different. It was more than a dream, it was a memory, and it had happened exactly as it was presented in the dream. He had not known it at the time, but his meeting with Lanor had been the start of a painful but important chapter of his life. The events that followed were still stored in his mind in vivid detail, but he had never expected to revisit any of these memories in his dreams.
I actually had even more that I wanted to share, but I thought I better stop before my comment became to long and laborious (assuming I haven't gotten there already). If you want more, please let me know; I'm actually in Chapter 13.
