I have two of these cats, that were rescued as kittens. Original owner couldn't deal with their behavior. Breeders are not presenting their behavior accurately, and even I was not prepared for how they actually act and behave in the house. If you want one of these, PLEASE do not buy one. There are SO MANY up for adoption from people giving them up! Even young kittens and juveniles, like I got.
It depends on where you live. In Romania, trust me, you won't find a Savannah cat (or any other expensive breed cat) in a shelter.
But at just $20,000 they're a bargain! My kid's college fund can wait. I gotta have one of these critters to show off to the folks.

Hugo Guillermin Salsgård help me, my cat have enslaved me for years
I remember when I was growing up, we found 2 kittens. We kept them for a couple of months, but one of them was normal with a slight mean streak and the other seemed to have mental issues. The normal one would give us the killer look, but never attacked us. At night, she would just walk up and down on us while we slept in our beds like she was prowling and protecting us. We were just kids then. We always had cats, but they were different and we never knew what type of kittens we had gotten. They were loyal and liked to play along with cuddles, but we had to get rid of them because they would not use the litter box no matter how hard we tried. I’m looking at this video, and the Savannah cats look exactly like them and I am certain they were Savannah. Same spots, slender bodies, and big in size for cats under a year old.
I wonder if you possibly had Serval cats since they tend to spray everywhere
A lot of young wild cats have spots, like mountain lions

I agree that all cats hiss, but did you hear the Savannah hiss? I know my cat hisses from time to time, but the hiss the Savannah makes is next level stuff... sounds frightening!
That didn't sound much different from a really pissed off housecat. If you think housecats don't hiss like that you've only ever heard them mildly annoyed.
Miles The microphone doesn't do the hiss Justice. It's a very loud and intimidating hiss
Chris Barnes nothing like a cat hiss. My F2b also chirps. Totally different personality than a domestic cat.
house cat rarely hisses, I had a cat and she did it like maybe 5 times during her lifetime and it was very quiet, this cat just randomly hisses at things and much louder too
"There's a cheetah out here! Or a leopard!"
I get that Savannahs are rare bois, but y'all seriously never seen a Bengal? :-/
Bengal cats are beautiful
A lot of these beautiful cats ends up living in misery when the owners realizes that they can't handle the destruction that comes with Savannah cat. They are wild and needs a lot more care than people understand what comes to feeding them example. They do not thrive with cat food, they need raw food diet that comes expensivie pretty fast. It how far Mondo got in few days shows how much these cats needs space to move around. Their living space should not be one room or small cage. They need space to get that exercise.
If you do clips like this you should also bring out the negatives that comes with owning cat like this. How they are bread example. It is not without problems. With cute videos you end up selling idea from owning cat like this for people that don't know what they are getting into and result will be suffering for everyone but mostly for the animals that are forced to take part to this. Seriously disappointed that Discovery takes part to things like this.
I thought the same thing. Even 'cat daddy', has had a few episodes with them and he downplays anyone getting one for a family pet because they are essentially a wild animal and need things a normal family cannot provide. I think it is irresponsible for Discovery to have this clip glamorizing them and saying they are a great family pet...pounds will not keep them.
Cats with wild blood desperately need to be let loose. I rescued a half-wild cat from a shelter once, and he loved to be outside. However, he always came back in, mainly because he knew he could come back out. A lot of owners don't let their cats out for fear of their deaths, but the cats would rather live 1 year outside than 12 years in.
Mondo didn't actually go that far in that week.
An adult male cat can, and will often, travel up to 20 miles per day to find a mate.
That is one of the reasons that spaying keeps them safer, they just don't feel the need to travel as much.
Basically, Mondo just went on a short walk-about. He was just checking out the neighborhood.
You are right except this show was on animal planet not Discovery.
@@The_Keeper Depends on what breed you're talking about. European based domesticated cats always home. Irregardless of whether or not the Savannah wanted to breed, Savannahs do NOT home. They never home because their ancestors were nomadic grassland wildcats.

@@AbsentWithoutLeaving You couldn't be further from the truth. She was a starving street kitten with a B&W mother who who came every morning to my door begging for food. One day she started coming alone as it was possible the mother cat had been killed by the municipal cat-catchers, then I had to take her in. The only money I paid was for an import licence and air fare when I brought her back to Britain and then six months quarantine. Apart from being blind in one eye, her face was almost identical to the cat in this vid but the spots on her flanks were a little less distinct. While she was young she had a remarkable ability to jump a six-foot fence and she had an amazing tree-climbing ability. I am sure she must have been fathered by an Arabian desert cat or a Cerval.

Love the name that they are called… but that has nothing to do with it. In a lot of the states they are illegal to have it is because they say they do a lot of damage to the Bird population. They are SPECIALISTS on both Birds and Mice. They require you to have your LICENSE. Having your LICENSE is for a REASON. They are NOT a Domestic Cat. Some are even not allowed to be where people have their License. It’s kind of stupid if you get your License and are going to go through what is all involved in getting it. Part of getting your license is spending your required amount of time with them… learning THEIR behaviors… knowing what’s actually involved in having these Cats and HOW THEY ARE DIFFERENT than Domestic Cat. Yes… every version of Cat are Cat Behavior that is Universal to ALL… but their are their own behavior that is exclusive to the Species. For example to what these Cats SPECIALIZE IN. Things like that. Without the EXPERIENCE… You should not even THINK about trying to get one. That’s why they are illegal in places. Even with the people that want to get their Licenses. If you were to really want to get one… please… GET YOUR LICENSE FIRST!!!

These Cats… Are Specialists. So is the Caracal. These two Cats Specialize in the same things. Birds and Mice. For the Caracat… its the same with the F1 and F2. Also… These Cats take Obligate Carnivore to the Big Cat Level. With these Cats… the Big Cat Safety Rules… MUST BE FOLLOWED. Reading their Body Language in SECONDS is also a MUST. Most likely that cat was roaming around much longer distances during the period it was free, feeding on birds and other people's small pets (and children😉), and was simply randomly captured 12 miles away from his original prison. Shows like this just wing it, there is so much bs on tv
It's to stop light from reflecting back into the eyes, so they have it backwards.

"wild genes" -- The science here is top notch.
They’re BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I find it funny when I see a simple video on UA-cam, on a particular breed of cat for example, then scroll through the comments to see loads of people kicking off at each other about it...
I am surprised when I hear the phrase "people kicking off at eachother ". I have not heard this until now.
Because some ppl are dumb shits & think they know everything about a breed because they read it on the internet...
Kick kick kick, het off my lawn!
Such stunning kitties I fell in love when I saw them ☺️☺️
These cats are amazing. They make me cry
gorgeous cats
"Savannahs are low maintenance"? Alright, this whole "Cats 101" on Savannahs is complete bullshit. They require A LOT of maintenance. How do you think it run off and went 12 miles away? Every cat, and pet really, requires maintenance, but depending on the breed they might be more social, or might need more interaction, or might just have more energy in general so you'll have to play with them more often, and spend more time with them unless you want them ruining your whole house.
Savannah cats are REALLY HIGH maintenance. They are still pretty wild. Having a scratching post around the house isn't going to cut it. They have a lot of energy, which is why having a sort of wheel (like hamster wheels but much larger, for cats) is recommended with Savannah cats, as well as with Bengal cats (which also happens to be a breed with a wild cat). You're going to need to play with them constantly, and spend a ton of time with them, if you don't want a ton of issues down the road.
So no, they aren't just "twice the cat" in size, they are also twice the cat in energy, so far from "low maintenance".
People glamorize this cat so much, the only reason people get it is because of it having longer legs and spots, and use it for views on Instagram and TikTok
I know it’s risky to take genetics like that to someplace other than their original home, but I do at least understand their perspective. There is a beauty to this creature.
just got two Savanna"s boy n girl absolutely love them
I like when people adopt a stray cats instead of spending thousands on premium cats...
If someone spends 20G on a cat, that cat is gonna be smarter then they are.
Its actually probably better for domestic cats as a whole if we bred more types of wildcat in with them to diversify their genetics.
Nothing is wrong with either
Lol I got a cat off of kijiji for 10$ and found out it is 3000$
@@colbyquessy1749 Ok, you're smarter than cat.
2:15 I find the mechanical noises from the cats ears moving Hilarious 😂
The cat that was lost, why didn't it have a collar on it? I think I'd have it chipped also. But bottom line, it got home and that's the main thing. We saw a Savannah cat yesterday, it was beautiful. It was very young, so still fairly small. Love the look of this beautiful animal!
Mister Goat yeah
Thank goodness the cat is with his family ❤
At my college I attended we have a savannah just wondering around campus and I’ve lost count the amount of times visitors have to up to me saying we have a lynx and a leopard walking around 😂. He’s actually really shy and sweet
They're beautiful. Would love to have one of those cats
uh, i have a tabby and it looks the same. just darker and smaller.
Thats tge thing. Smaller
seal.
How come it’s a “tabby” doesn’t that mean stripes?
These cats aint striped! They have spots.
@Scott M he said it looks like it now that it acts like a wild cat
@Scott M oh pipe down ! My two TABBY cats are very athletic, have good bonding with humans even know there own name, any cat can be walked on a leash if you train it lol xD
@Scott M it is relevant, trying to be a know it all when it fact you presume 😑
So what if the cat is trained or not the point is he's doing what he's being taught, Obviously you know nothing about tabby Cats, they have African in them as well maybe not too wild but it's in them, let's not forget they were domesticated ! In fact My cat even talks back to me in his language when I communicate through certain noises 😛😛😛
So nope it's not that he looks at me for food, it's a bond and imprint as well, bonds happen any pet dog cat rabbit bird, talk to a animal trainer he'll tell you the same
Wife: there is a cheetah outside
Husband: Mmmhhh, I think I'll get a broom lol!
Getting a savannah bangle mix today. I'm excited 😁
