Carol, please know that most canning jar lids are not to be reused. The screw- on part is fine to reuse, but the thin disc with the rubber gasket should not be used again.
Don't vacuum seal then more than once, if stored for a long time. Otherwise, once you open the the jar...the entirety of its contents must be used and it can never ever ever be used a jar again....which is not correct...you can wash them and use them hundreds of times as JARS WITH LIDS...LIKE ANY JAR! NO ONE ON PLANET EARTH, THAT IS NOT RUNNING A CANNING COMPANY USES THEM ONE TIME...Why would a company build a jar of glass and metal for single time use? CANS ARE FOR SINGLE USE...NOT THREADED, RESEALABLE GLASS JARS...HOW DO YOU USE JUST THE METAL RING BY ITSELF...?...FOR WHAT?....YOU USE THE DISK.....UNTIL THE RUBBER NO LONGER SEALS. Seriously....you just clean the lid..how do you think they sterilized it in the first place..?....it can take the heat of a washer and soap...!....it's rubber..not Saran Wrap.
@@Cody38Super , you’re right. I should have said not to trust a vacuum seal on them more than once. Of course they can be washed and used over and over again. You can buy just the lids, without the threaded rings for the jars. You may be able to buy the rings as well, but I’ve never had to. The lids are very inexpensive, so rather than trust a second use for canning, I just buy new.
Merry Christmas Recky & Carol! Merry Christmas to both of your families as well! Carol I hope that you have a great Christmas with your parents. I love you both have a great & safe Christmas! Love from Indianapolis
Those canning jars are from the Ball Jar factory, originally made in my hometown of Muncie, Indiana. Muncie was built around the Ball Brothers . The original site of the Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company is located at 1401 East Memorial Drive in Muncie, Indiana. Just a couple of blocks down from my old house. The Ball brothers, Edmund, Frank, George, William, and Lucius, started the company in New York in 1886. They moved the business to Muncie in 1887 to take advantage of the area's natural gas reserves. The first glass was produced in Muncie in 1888. By 1900, the company was the world's largest fruit jar plant.
The straws can be washed, be sure to rinse out all the soap. Also, the straws are bending straws. The end nearest the bending part is the top of the straw, leaving the longest straight part of the straw to go into your cup.
You guys are awesome. You are fuel too. I think of you as my Swedish family. A brother and sister-in-law, or a sister and brother-in-law. Very close cousins... you get the idea. You are part of my digital family and popping in to visit or see things that people have sent to you brightens my day.
I use jars for so many things. Small amounts of food - I keep my used flat lids to use on these jars. I buy and store in my pantry, not canning ,just for storage a lot of things from Amish bulk food stores which saves me a lot of money.Cinnamon, cocoa powder, nuts, dried beans, you get the idea. I use mostly half pint and pint jars. You can make cranberry juice and water bath it for 20 minutes and you have a delicious drink. The foods you can put up are endless. You will be addicted to canning after your first endeavor. UA-cam is the best way to learn how to safely can and we are here to help with any questions.
It was cool to hear the kitties in the background. I have a friend in NC that had a kitty that would drool whenever it used the litter box. See this is why I might not crazy about all the new stuff having the wifi connected to it. I prefer doing it the old fashioned way since you don't need to rely on some crazy signal.
Those are the "guests are coming" glasses. You only fill them with the BEST moonshine. You use the plain ones for yourselves, when a little "rot gut" doesn't matter... 🤣
Carol's parents should be there, by now. Hopefully you're all having a great time together. In the US, we park in the driveway, and drive on the parkway (aka street, boulevard, avenue, etc). 😊 Saw thumbs on YT by someone who was going to show how she stored her 500(!) filled canning jars. Some day, that may be you, Carol!
Merry Christmas you two ... lots to look forward to in the new year ! Can't wait to join you in your new adventures with your beautiful house and garden !
Carol I found this on canning broths. Clean and sterilize 4 pint or 2 quart jars, lids, and bands. Place into the pressure canner with about 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Depending upon the recommendations of your pressure canner, fill with water. The jars should be standing in at least 2-inches of water. Bring the water in the canner to a simmer and heat the jars for at least 10 minutes. Meanwhile, bring the strained broth back up to a boil. Remove a jar from the canner and fill with broth, leaving 1-inch headspace. Remove air bubbles and adjust headspace as necessary. Wipe the jar rims, apply the lid, and twist on the band to fingertip tight. Place the jar back into the canner. Repeat with the remaining jars. Place the lid onto the pressure canner, turn the heat on high, and let the steam vent for 10 minutes. Place the pressure gauge onto the canner and bring the pressure up to 10 pounds. Process the jars at 10 pounds of pressure, pint jars for 20 minutes and quart jars for 25 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the pressure drop back down to 0 pounds. Remove the pressure gauge and let the steam vent for 10 minutes. Remove the canner lid and let the jars stand in the hot water for another 10 minutes. Remove the jars and let stand until the lids seal. Check the seals on the lids after 12-24 hours. Label and store for up to 18 months.
Merry Christmas to you guys… Just remember grilling is grilling you don’t need any special Wi-Fi. I’ve never even heard of that you do it and it is awesome to see more you do what you do not always what we do we do it gets boring lol😅
I think that black thing with the jars is a jar opener. When you can items, the lids seal tight, so use that to open it? I might be wrong, but someone who knows can chime in.
Exactly right! It can be used on any jar and makes a huge difference when opening a jar that is too tight! I’m 63 and use one all the time when I have trouble unscrewing any tight lid
I had the same issue with my internet/wifi . That’s why when I first joined your channel I kept on losing connection on the lives, etc. now I got 1 WiFi pod. I probably should have gotten 2, but I didn’t want to pay for 2, so no watching lives in the back of the house. Will possibly have the same issue. So before getting the extension for your WiFi @Recky measure the house and where it may go from where the router is and where the smoker is. They both have to connect to the extension to work or you may need more than one extension, that’s what I found out after I just got one.
I'm hoping one of your viewers with the cash to spare will send you a copy of the latest Ball canning and preserving book. It's an encyclopedic resource for preserving food including canning. Canning must always be done properly are you risk your health. Don't use any recipes except for reputable sources like Ball canning and preserving because people will inadvertently give you bad advice that may make you very sick. There are many people out there who have been canning food for a long time and have managed to not get sick out of pure dumb luck and the best way to avoid that is to make sure your recipes and techniques are properly done.
This is exactly why I recommend learning from Rosered Homestead here on UA-cam. She doesn't just show you how to can, she EDUCATES you about food safety. And she references the Ball canning book all the time.
The black rubber thing with the jars is a gripper to help unscrewing jar tops when they are very tight and tough to open!
I think the rubber square pad is to grip the lids of the jars to make it easier to twist and tighten them on 😊
Grab a pair of sissors sweeties! Very handy opening packages!
Carol, please know that most canning jar lids are not to be reused. The screw- on part is fine to reuse, but the thin disc with the rubber gasket should not be used again.
we use our old lids for garden markers
@ great idea!!

Actually you can refuse them if you buy the little rubber rings, which are extremely cheap. I've been doing it for decades now.
Such a sweet couple!! Many blessings from America!❤😊
Carol has such a beautiful voice. Just have to say.
Please take pictures of your Christmas with your parents 😊
Always buy new thin gasket lids to be used each time you can for safety. Have fun!

Yay! Merry Christmas folks🎉❤ I bought 600 plastic straws for my friend in Australia lol she was like, I know you guys have em! 😂
Merry Christmas you two ... lots to look forward to in the new year ! Can't wait to join you in your new adventures with your beautiful house and garden !
Love your videos . Have a very Merry Christmas 🎁 , and a Happy New Year🍾🥂 !
Recky, those aren't the canning jars that you use for moonshine. They have special jars with handles and lids with a hole for a straw for that.😂
But them's the fancy ones. Don't need no handles if the glass is purdy! Asides, after a few good sips, handles don't hep...

Hi guys! I so look forward to your videos ( it's the highlight of my day) ❤
Aw nice to hear ❤️

Plastic straws will take 200-500 yrs to decompose and the microplastics could harm wildlife. 😢
