    Honestly, Katelyn is the the absolute BEST. I could watch her all day (sometimes I have). I bought all of her classes and I don’t regret it for a minute. Yes, they’re expensive, but for what you gain in knowledge and understanding it’s so worth it. If you’re on the fence for any of her products, just do it. You’ll thank me later. I love this girl!! 📸 😍

    Thank you for the awesome content! Seeing final edits is so discouraging for many beginners though, because when they replicate what you do they will never have that result in camera. Some before and after shots would be HIGHLY appreciated.

    Definitely going to have to shoot several weddings before I can afford that KJ All Access... Don't raise the prices. HAA! I'll be there. Probably next year, after I pay some bills off, but I'd sure love to learn so much more. Thank you for at least giving us these little snippets!! I've still learned a lot from these.

    Positive exposure compensation? Your photos are very bright. I found out with you that I like portraits like that.

    Great video and tips Kate!
    I really appreciate it.
    I do have a questions, what am I doing wrong I tried taking the same backlit pictures but my subjects always come out dark.
    A little guidance on camera setting maybe.
    Thanks and keep up the great work.

      I would expose for the skin. Which your camera will likely tell you you are over exposing the background.

    Hello Katelyn, I am wondering what measuring light setting you are using on those pictures? I know you shoot manual so I do not know if it really matters but just guessing if you are letting the camera measure light in certain way, Thanks!

    As I told you in another video, I really like your overall approach to the profession, but I I guess I'm old school that I don't like the 'blown out' background technique; high key, if you will, in lieu of fill light. I'm sure it saves a lot of time, but I really don't understand the appeal of it. I'd appreciate hearing your comments on the style. thanks.

    LOVE YOUR WORK!!! Thank you for this! I'm noticing a little chromatic aberration in her hair. This is a constant problem for me and it can be so frustrating. Do you have tips on editing (or shooting) to avoid chromatic aberration?

    • @KatelynJames
      @KatelynJames  3 роки тому +1

      Yes that's hard to avoid but it could be reduced in Lightroom!

    Thank you for this video. Did you use single point auto focus where you moved the focus point to her eye or did you have the camera automatically focus on her eye?

    • @CFLDumpsters
      @CFLDumpsters Рік тому

      Camera grabs eye very well, and her distance keeps them in focus with bokeh in background. It will grab face/eye, automatically.

  • @gohumberto
    @gohumberto Рік тому +1

    Do you spot-meter on the face or just dial in some over-exposure?

    • @CFLDumpsters
      @CFLDumpsters Рік тому

      Wondering the same thing, I would imagine it’s under slightly to keep the background and rim light from being blown out.

    • @CFLDumpsters
      @CFLDumpsters Рік тому

      Found another comment she spot meters I’m guessing their faces.

    Katelyn - did you warm up the WB to cater for the potential of green cast from the grass?

    • @KatelynJames
      @KatelynJames  4 роки тому

      Alot of times YES! And I had to use some split toning in LR to adjust the highlight color as well!

  • @cassymeyer881

    In that last image that was too hazy, if you were using a lens hood, would that help reduce some of the haze? P.S. Also OBSESSED with that horizontal image. All the *heart eye* emojis.

    • @KatelynJames
      @KatelynJames  4 роки тому +1

      Yes! It totally would! I rarely find myself needing a lens hood so I don't normally bring one but it would have been so nice here!

    11 seasons of weddings for me. I have also noticed that this is made very much more difficult when someone uses a kit or other inexpensive lens.

    What metering mode do you usually use for backlit images?

  • @xKellogsx
    @xKellogsx 3 роки тому +1

    I found this instruction a little too confusing :/ Most likely just me. But I came away from it still not knowing where the heck my subjects should be in relation to the light.

      But I don't want to sound too negative because I absolutely adore you and your images in this were stunning - just like your clients. I just wanted to give some feedback incase it was helpful.
