When he said about the overhead cranes and others, I'm sure I saw your jaw drop Tom, I know mine did when he said at least 100 cranes, overhead or otherwise!!
They've certainly got plans in place to upgrade, solar panels etc - awesome!
Bloody awesome vid - can't wait to see next part!

Fruehauf agriliner 72cu yd tipping trailers were great for payload. We ran around 16 of them at any one time. They were rob sided boxes but most prefer smooth sided trailers nowadays. Also ran some of their flat trailers from 40 ft to 45ft

What an impressive plant. Laser cutting what looked like 12mm aluminium surprised me. I wonder if they considered water jet? Perhaps water jet would not be cost effective because the garnet is a consumable, but the laser only consumes power. They would also need to shut down a water jet to clear out the used garnet, and I know they use a lot of it. I especially liked the contrast between the CNC machines and the capstan lathes, and they looked pretty old. An incredibly interesting video Tom, and thanks to David and Arturus (I think that's where the name Arthur comes from) for showing you/us round.
I used to work at Ford Product Development at Dunton in Essex (I started as a toolmaker, and retired as a design engineer) and we switched our focus to outsourcing as many components as possible soon after we were seeing serious competition from Japanese car manufacturers. We also moved from inhouse testing of outsourced components to insisting that the supplier bore that cost. If a component failed, the supplier bore the cost, and not FMC. At the same time, lines of demarcation were relaxed for the trades people - an engine specialist would no longer have to wait for a body fitter to remove the grill and radiator. Without those changes, I doubt Ford Europe would still be operating. I am sure Fruehauf has fine tuned its operation, and creating inhouse gives them way more control.

Damn Tom, you couldn't have been much closer without knocking on my door. I'm very aware of Fruehauf and the size of their site, I'm the type of person who would spend an hour on Google Earth checking out sites and facilities, but it's super interesting to see inside, just goes to show how massive the place is to store so much inside, 330 yards that hall is. It seems like in the 3 years MV Commercial took over of Fruehauf to save it from administration, I remember hearing 140 local jobs were at risk, they've made a whole host of optimisations and investments, seems in good hands. I think dump trucks, rollers and graders were made there before, and submarine engines for WWII I do enjoy your site tours, I know it may not be for every viewer, but it really is a a good look inside different industries and who knows, the videos might just get someone interested in that type of work. I think the WEF owned Government(s) forget how many different industries and jobs farming supports, and forcing the sale of farms to the global elite would destroy a lot of it.
