・小津の兄妹：兄1人/妹2人/仲の良かった15才下の弟1人。
・父は問屋の番頭だった。
・松阪には小津の本家があった。
・中学生の頃小津は、映画クラブを設立。女優パール・ホワイトのファンで、ハリウッドの俳優に手紙を書き返事を貰うこともあった。
・T・Ｈ・インスの『シヴィリゼーション』を観て、映画の仕事に就こうと決めた。
・映画は当時、長期的に残るとは考えられておらず、そのような事に生涯を捧げる事に葛藤もあった様だ。
・進学は2年連続で失敗。
・松竹入社後、小津（掃除係）/斎藤寅次郎（会計係）/清水宏（料理係）らと共同生活。
・大久保忠素の第3助監督となる。
・第1作『懺悔の刃』、初にして唯一の時代劇。
・初期は、チャップリン、ルビッチ、ロイドからの影響を受けたようなドタバタ喜劇が多く、多作でもあった（最高年7本）。

・3：09～ 岡田時彦（茉莉子の父）と伊達麻理子。

・キネ旬ベスト1選出、３年連続は小津のみ。

・1945年、イタリアでネオリアリスモ。
・戦後も作風を変えなかったが、役者陣は大きく変わった。
・『晩春』『麦秋』『東京物語』：原節子を主役「紀子」にした紀子3部作。
・『東京物語』：オリジナルのフイルムは焼失。
・鎌倉に引越した後、鎌倉文化人との交流深まる。
・1959年 フランスヌーヴェルヴァーグ。日本でも大島渚や吉田喜重などが台頭。学生運動盛んに。
・『秋刀魚の味』執筆中に母死去。
・最後の脚本：『大根と人参』。
・1963年、小津は入退院を繰り返し、大変苦しんだ。
・訂正：『生まれてはみたけれど』→『生れてはみたけれど』

Ozu was expelled from boarding school for writing a love letter to another boy.
NB: The English narrative is written in rather poor (US?) English. Shame.
Oh please give references for this. Where did you learn he was expelled for writing love letters to another boy?
@@gjford1951 It is mentioned on the Japanese wikipedia entry for Ozu. Not many details are there, but it seems there was a ban against relationships between boys and girls, and one boy sent another boy a traditional "love letter" navigating around this rule, and Ozu was involved -- somehow. That is all I can gather at the moment. FWIW, McKavitt seems to have an axe to grind. He even complained about the quality of the English in this video.
