I can appreciate what you said that you feel part of reselling is monotonous for you. I left my good paying 9-5 job 5 years ago to be a full time reseller and I’m as excited about reselling now as I was 5 years ago. There parts of it that I don’t love like steaming so I don’t only if I really have to also packing sold items not my favorite thing to do, but the freedom and stress free life I live I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I travel a lot and love when I get home and can go thrifting and getting back to my business and I’m 5 years in.

We had foster dogs so went through lots of this. With barking, training the “quiet” command and “look at me” were the only things that worked consistently. It feels good to bark so they won’t stop without training.
Jumping, make sure never gets rewarded with any attention or touch. When he jumps, turn your back and remove yourself if he’s too aggressive about it until he calms down. Teach him to “sit” instead and then pet him. When our dogs sit, it’s their way to ask for attention and we always reward it. Even touching dogs to put them back onto the ground or yelling at them can feel like a reward to them. Hope this helps! Highly recommend a trainer if you can, it saved us

As the owner of a 1.5 year old Belgian malinois/husky/German shepherd who I’ve had since she was 3 months, I FEEL you on the puppy/barking. I’ve come to accept that she’ll always bark to some extent - when people are outside our house or approaching, etc and I’m fine with that. What has really helped is thinking about teaching her what I want her to do *instead* of barking. I find dogs respond better to learning the preferred action rather than being scolded/told what NOT to do. They’re just doing what comes naturally. For me that meant teaching her to go to her bed and relax (taught her a place command and “settle”). Now sometimes when she’s worked up she’ll bark a few times and take herself to her bed and grumble but eventually chill.
I cried a lot when we first got her but now she’s my whole world, haha. Even though she’s still a nightmare 😅 hang in there

    • @JamieAmos

Also wanted to add - barking is a reinforcing behavior for dogs, so the more he’s left outside to bark and bark and bark, the more he’s going to do it because it’s fun for him! It’s so annoying but the best thing to do it have a training session when they’re having a barking fit and teach them what you’d rather them do. The more they practice a behavior the harder it’ll be to train them otherwise

Well that was a whole lot of fun and informative content!! I appreciate how much you share about the highs and lows of reselling and real estate. Kind of fascinating. I really admire your independence too! But I do see that it must get exhausting-everything is up to YOU.
I was tickled to hear your opinions on the bins as I have recently decided to ONLY go to the bins because I tend to overspend at the thrift, and their prices are high so the ROI is lower. Also I have bins nearby and i love the treasure hunting aspect of it. But I have a full time job so the reselling is helpful cash but not critical. It’s much more of a fun hobby than an obligation. My “salary” if i had to pay myself by the hour would be 1970’s McDonalds’ wages, I suspect.

My summer was odd June was eh, July was good, August has been terrible.
For the most part my less expensive items are what sold this summer. It’s more work for less money, but if it gets someone through those months I guess that’s a good thing. I also took a lot of offers that were lower than I normally would have taken, but we’re moving 500 miles, so I was taking the cost of moving into consideration. Less inventory to move is a good thing.

I FEEL YOU about the bins, I used to go to the bins and load up, now I hardly go. I prefer to find higher ASP items at the regular thrift and lessen the workload and up my profits. I do love finding those amazing pieces at the bins, but it's a commitment- energetically. Sometimes I want to convince myself that listing higher dollar items, is better for the algorithm.

Barking solution - there's a thing we had to buy for ours because they don't stop, but it's basically a battery operated machine that will make a high pitched noise that distracts them from what they are barking at. It worked WONDERS for us. Ours is an egg shape, but there a bunch of them out there and even collars you can get! Might be worth a try!

I agree. In desperation I tried one once (and I do mean once) and the shock scared my dog so much he'd bark and then it would shock him again and he'd bark again. I don't think I used it more than 10 minutes. Never again.

they have training collars that have a vibration setting and the shock but we never had to use the shock, the vibration setting worked wonders for our dog. I've had a cleaning business for 36 years.
My original intention was to slowly switch over to doing reselling full time.
I'm about 2/3 cleaning 1/3 reselling right now.
I'm sooo grateful that I still have some cleaning clients.
Now that I've seen just how bad reselling can get ill never rely solely on it for my income.
I'm currently thinking about trying something else to replace my cleaning income.

Well the puppy may be a handful, but he is definitely cute and happy! As I got older I kind of let my dogs (I have 5) teach me some of their lessons. They are really great at unconditional love even if you aren't a snuggly person. Nice soft mention... I hope it continues on a good path. Life continues to change and you do a great job at flexing with the changes when others might actually break.

  • @TraciParks

Your "soft mention" had me chuckling. LOL. Thanks for giving me something to listen to while shoving things into a storage unit. And YAY for air conditioning!!!!!

  • @sumthingelsesumthingelse6811

A popular method of curtailing excessive barking is teaching the “quiet” command. Use a calm, firm voice to tell your dog to be “quiet” and positively reinforce correct behavior with treats and affection. Many dogs will bark to get your attention, ask for food, or to tell you to open the door or let them out of the crate. The most successful method is positive reinforcement, which encourages the reinforced behavior. Whenever your dog is quiet and well-behaved, offer them a desired treat. Over time, your dog will learn that good things come to them when they’re not barking.Another dog training tip is to develop a calm verbal cue such as “Quiet, want a treat?” that will let your dog know that the barking is unacceptable.
Start with training sessions where you reward your dog’s quiet behavior with this cue, followed by the treat or a favorite toy.
Once your dog learns the calm verbal cue, you can use it during times of unwanted barking, such as the ring of a doorbell or the sound of other dogs barking, to prompt the quiet response (aka to stop the barking).
If your dog stops barking when they hear the cue, reward them. You should never use punishment for dog barking. Examples of punishment would be yelling, throwing objects, or trying to interrupt the barking by spraying water at your dog, making loud noises, or using citronella-spraying collars or shock collars.
A dog’s responses to pain or fear caused by punishment will only give short-term results, may cause aggression and phobias, and will lead to high levels of stress that block your dog’s ability to learn. They may even associate the pain with you as the trainer. Hope all this helps! PS Disguise Yourself - Wear big floppy hats, sunglasses, Hair Up...it might help avoid the run ins LOL. Good Luck. Don't let others determine YOUR life. Its yours - take it. If you have a run in just say, Oh Hi! So Nice to see You, hope to see you soon but we have to run....and leave.

I’m so happy for you Courtney! You have so much going for you! Thanks for the soft mention! 😉 I have a lot in common with you. Among other things, I’m a single woman and I’m very conscious of my time and money. I really appreciate your content and realness. On your storage topic - I think it’s interesting to think of your storage as cost/ sq ft. You, as the real estate professional know exactly what your price/ sq ft is for your area. It’s interesting to think what your inventory costs you in real estate. I used to live in Denver and rent out my basement, but used one whole room for inventory. I could have rented out another bedroom for a great amount. It kind of puts things in perspective, especially as you consider paring down.
You’ve probably already considered this .
On another note, just this weekend I went from one dog to two . I’m excited but also realize what a huge change this is! Yikes !

Hi Courtney. Great discussion. As far as summer slow down, I for sure feel it. My sales are always down in the summer. I think that summer things are just so much cheaper in stores and the quality is not as mush of a big deal with those types of items than cold weather items and people may not want to pay up for tanks, shorts, flip flops and little dresses since they get trashed with the kind of use that they get at the pool and on vacations. I do well with plus size maxi dresses and swimsuits, though.

To get rid of the rodents that eat car wires or items in storage get small powerful commercial work lights and put them at the bases of doors, garage doors or outside underneath your car. Costco sells a 4 pack of approx 4x6 yellow durable work lights for roughly $20. The rodents do not like the light. Works great and only cost is double AA batteries. You can get rechargeable batteries to help with cost. I lived in a house in a mountain community and rodents affected everyone. Someone in community heard this trick from a contractor and no one had issues again!

I am a dog foster mom. I only do puppies because my seven year old lab Leo doesn’t appreciate other older dogs in the house that are not part of his pack. Puppies definitely try your patience, but they’re just like children. They are growing and they need patience. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time. Whatever you do, don’t use a bark collar. They shock the dogs and it’s very terrifying. I would definitely reach out to a local dog trainer for some lessons. We did that with my dogs, and it was a lifesaver when they were young. 🙏 be patient with her. She and Luna look so happy 🥰 we get so many returns with people who adopt puppies it’s heartbreaking. I hope you reach out to a trainer so you feel better and don’t have the regret that you’re talking about. Hugs.

I call them "the close talkers" of the world. In your face and don't you love me and all I want to do is have fun. Luna looks German Shepherdish. They are herding dogs and are good at reading you. And have an off switch.

try watching some yotube "cesar milan getting your dog to stop barking" . The vet I worked for has a saying " a tired dog is a good dog" I had a mini aussie who hated everyone and trying to train him with all that aussie energy well I first had to tire him out to train him ..I walked that dog 10 miles a day I was going through walking shoes like every 2 months and i was gaining weight because he was so stressful I would down a black coffee and a danish to have the energy to walk him 10 miles while trying avoid every single thing tahtw ould trigger him on his walks.

Don’t give up on the pup! I adopted an english setter rescue 2 years ago after my dog of 15 years passed. I vowed I wouldn’t get another dog for the freedom, etc.
My son talked me into this dog because I said if he could find this breed I would consider it. I figured he would never find one.
She’s been tough. Leash reactive, anxious when left alone (ate my blinds), was not very affectionate, etc
I had many moments of regret, even though I loved the dog.
She is still at work in progress. But slowly but surely she is making progress. I couldn’t imagine a day without her. ❤

Okay so something just happened to me on Poshmark and I am so upset about it! This lady purchased a dress from me on an offer to liker. I shipped out the dress 24 hours later she tried to cancel the order I told her it’s already been shipped. I cannot cancel the order. The dress arrived yesterday as soon as she received the dress, she opened a return not only did she put holes in the dress, but I woke up this morning to Poshmark, accepting the return after I have already messaged them and told them I was afraid this was gonna happen, they see that she tried to cancel the dress now I am going to get back a dress with holes in it that was new with tags and now I can’t do anything with it. I am so aggravated about this. What would y’all do in the situation I’ve never had anything like this happen. Has anyone had this happen before and if so, I would like to know about it. I have reached out to Poshmark about this.

Maybe his food is too much protein? Long walks should really help if he has to walk next to you with an easy leader looking at you.
