jennette lola lyste Ikr and the Spanish version dosent even like try to assure 2D its just like "WHATS THE MATTER WITH YOU?!?!?!" And 2D is like "Ikr whats wrong with me?" lol
Yup, the Latin version is trying to cheer up the English version. The English version eventually gives up and commits suicide, that's why the English version of the song has an abrupt ending compared to the Latin one.
Damon's voice for 2D, especially in this album, is so unique. It's filled with such pain, loneliness, and in this song, it's very haunting but in a soothing sort of way. Such a great song and such a great album.
Both songs are meant to go together, the English version's chorus goes "What's the matter with me?" so 2-D is talking about himself, and speaking in a very melancholic manner, while the Spanish version's chorus goes "Que pasa contigo?" which, translated says "What's the matter with you?", and is sung in a more cheerful tone, showing that he is trying to cheer 2-D up, which is why he refers to 2-D as "Hermano" which means "Brother" in Spanish. Both of these songs are almost like a duet in a way.
It's interesting, no? The latin beat in the background, slowed almost to a dirge, screams sadness in the midst of shallow joy while background vocals seem to blur everything into almost a chant, like dulled senses as you emptily move through the rote details of life. Musical brilliance, I think. Still holds up, years after I first heard it.
Give up If you wanna survive Get oh so alive In your life Everything falling out the sky on top of you Now what you do? Fuckface McGee That is very true but almost all lyric webpages have only the English version lyrics. Writr Latin Simone lyrics on youtube and watch the Spanish lyrics
I think both versions are great in their own way. Who said we have to choose between them? The smoky, rich quality of the original Spanish and the haunting lull of the English version.. I love them both!
Bro, I listen to this song so much since it feels like someone's going through the same shit I am. Tell anyone about my issues and they say shit like "Dude, stop being so sad" "I hate your negative vibes" "Suicide is for the weak", as if that's being supportive. If sounding supportive and concerned was their intention, I didn't see it. What's wrong with me? Why am I so flawed? I can't be like the others, managing their lives comfortably, while I'm sitting here at 6am listening to this. I miss my friends. Not the people I'm with right now. My friends from childhood. Ugh I can't.
I didn't know there WAS an English version of this song till I watched hoodudehoodlumsrevenge's top gorillaz songs. It's sorrowful, haunting, and beautiful. Thank you 2-D.
This song is so beautiful.. in a sad way. The piano sounds eerie yet peaceful, the bass sounds like the constant feeling of melancholy and hopelessness, and the trumpet reminds me of the flicker of hope that 2D or whoever the character for this song is supposed to be. Absolutely beautiful.
I've been listening to the Spanish version a lot recently and trying to translate it with my rudimentary understanding of Spanish lol, and not getting very far. Well today I finally looked up the lyrics and didn't understand why the English lyrics didn't seem to match completely with what I'd translated. Can't believe there is this complementary English version that I never even realised existed!! Two halves of the same story, amazing. I like the Spanish version more because it's like the hopeful advice that 2D needs to hear, I mean it's probably advice that we all need to hear tbh. "No ocultes tu alma al sol"...
A true Gorillaz fan doesn't love songs simply because they are by Gorillaz, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I agree with you though, haha, they both rock.
Kristin B. Honestly I adore the Spanish version cuz I'm trying to learn the language and it helps but also I feel the voice is much more smooth (idk if it's the same as this version) but yea I understand where ur coming from
The Spanish versión is awesome, dude. Lyric-wise. Hope you're doing good with your spanish clases! it's a really cool and useful language to learn. Coming from a spanish-speaker ;)
TragicAtBest17 they're lyrics and sound are rarely super dark but also not really super cheery, and I think that's really the definition of a melancholy sound.
