His last album, Hadsel, was a masterpiece; just Zach, his voice and a lot of different organs. Recorded in a Norwegian church far away from the outside world, after a difficult period; the album is breathtakingly beautiful and one I’d definitely recommend.
Zach always knew how to turn music into magic, and create magic that has eternal nostalgia in it. The acrobats in the clip look like they have been enchanted by Beirut and they move according to the pensive vibrations of his voice. Thank you for this piece.
I'm part Circassian and the Caspian Tiger used to have the Caucasus as part of it's range throughout Central and West Asia, and I mourn their loss so much, as Tigers in general are the animal I connect with the most. I was very surprised seeing the title of this song, and I feel like it captures much of the feeling of loss I feel now that they are gone and extinct because of Russian colonization of our homelands throughout the region. Same with the Caucasus Leopard. I'm kinda speechless about this, and I would love to know what the bands inspiration was behind the song and title
"Ironic then, that I found Kompani Giraff’s project so enticing, and writing something for acrobats to perform so enjoyable. “Caspian Tiger” was one of the first songs I wrote for the new album, with images in mind of the poor animals caged or fighting in Roman colosseums. They had been taken from the Asian steppes around the Caspian Sea and from as far east as Tashkent, an area I’ve been fascinated by for years. The sonic influence came in large part from choir music that I was obsessing over at the time." according to NME magazine
