    How do you like the mod? Do you like how the OD channels sound now?

      Yes, sounded great. Nice riffs

      i think the clean sounded better before, maybe just needs the cap changed to reduce the bass a little. i did like the drive channel changes a lot. what exactly did it take for that to happen?

      @@redkurn I'll have the full mod on slightlytechnicalacademy.com on the tech pages very soon. The website is in development, it has not been launched yet, but I expect it being launched sometime in December.

      @@slightlytechnical103 I suspect v1 ay7, v2 ax7, v3 at7 like I’ve seen, but that couldn’t possibly be why the drive sounded extremely more usable, looking forward to the mod list, bom, schematic and pictures. I love my hrd enough to have searched it down to buy back. Took 3 years 😂

      @@redkurn Actually I didn't change any of the tubes, but the circuit inside got moded quite a bit. As I said, very soon I'll have the schematic and the details online, I'm working on that stuff as we speak :)

    I played the Lmt. Edition Hot Rod IV and like it. Which one would you recommend? I loved the clean sound and reverb.

      @@MOAB-UT i would just go for build quality, so the lmt. Edition is much better. Plus they come with a much better speaker of I remember correctly.

      @@slightlytechnical103 Thanks. Why is the limited edition build better? Is it still not a thin pcb board? What speaker is in it? Are they less noisy? It was fine in GC.

    • @slightlytechnical103
      @slightlytechnical103  25 днів тому +1

      @MOAB-UT to be honest I didn't really nerd out on all the iteration differences, but I don't think there is anything special about them, other than they are newer, so the PCB is a bit better and some distance has been made between the PCB and the resistors that go hot.
      The speaker that I would see in these was some type of celestion creamback. The PCB is definitely thicker and better in these.

      @@slightlytechnical103 Sounds like you did nerd out- I appreciate that level of detail. All I know is it sounded great in the store. Wish it had Trem. but the verb was great and the clean blew me away. It will likely be my next amp. I was considering a Vibrolux- still might, but this one was pretty nice and you can find a new one for under a grand with full warranty. I also like the tweed look and black control panel on top. One downside is that at 41lbs., it is a pretty heavy amp.

      @MOAB-UT i just got to repair / mod / try a bunch of em.... it's a very common amp around here. The one I liked the most stock is the Blues Deluxe limited. Was quite good.

    Had one with a v30 in it. Pawned it for drug money and never got it back. No regrets

    These have had serous issues since they were first designed and fender never cared to address them because people were buying them like hotcakes. I've come across a few that were in need of service. I usually gut them and handwire a bassman or plexi in them.
    I would suggest Ceriatone instead of a hot.rod fender for the money

    Yeah most amplifier reviews nowadays are just glorified advertisements by people that know how to play, but aren't qualified to judge the actual build quality/reliability (or even the safety, unfortunately in regards to some brands/builders). Those "how does it sound" videos have their place, but I really hate planned obsolescence. I especially hate planned obsolescence in amplifiers that are meant to inspire people to play more and pursue their musical goals, and trashing an amp isn't a dig at the people that play or buy them, but the builders basically ripping normal people off. That's my problem with the HRD, especially because it is a lot of people's first tube amp. It also has contributed towards the misappropriated disdain for PCBs in guitar amps.
