Hey, I was curious, as you're writing your own version of sequels do you have already all characters you want are set or wouldn't mind a donation of character that in competent hands could be really interesting? if no then oh well, at least asked, but if yes then how to contact you about details Also about RoS (not gonna use same abbreviation as for episodes 3 and 6) for me one thing that is bit concerning is that Disney might treat this movie almost like ultimatum, to intentionally take away from it conclusions that will allow them to keep getting away with their BS practices when handling franchises just to make quick buck, so conclusion for now as movie is reported as financial failure will be that fan-service don't pay off and they can as well ditch it, or if movie was successful they could take it as sign that they can keep writing on as low quality as they want if they smear it all over with fan-service... one way or the other they can get away with their scammy practices, and might be my pessimism towards big corporations but... we've seen that only greed can keep them on top
With *Palpatine dead*, and *Snoke dead*, why choose to bring back Palpatine over Snoke? To me this made no sense. If you consider the plot line used, Palpatine created Snoke clones. Wouldn't it have been much easier to explain to the audience how Snoke now lives because he created clones of himself prior to his death? His reasoning for creating these clones is that he realized Palpatine not doing so was his mistake and undoing, when Anakin Skywalker tossed him to his death. Seeing multiple clones ready to, either take Snoke's place, or for him to inhabit through Dark Force essence transfer of some kind, would make him appear more formidable an enemy than perhaps even Palpatine appeared.
Doc_S_3077 Well, I'd argue that most fans who boycotted Solo did so to make a statement, not because they "hate Star Wars." In fact, you certainly can "hate" everything about the Sequel Trilogy, or Disney Star Wars in general, and still very much be a Star Wars fan. In other words, there are no rules about how much of it you have to like, or a limit to how much you can criticize it, before you lose your "fan status." The point I was really aiming for in the video is that no one went into the sequel trilogy wanting to hate it... but some have certainly found themselves hating it here in the end.
AVSManfred ft Lilith Still very much in the early stages of writing and do not have all the characters created. I'm always open to suggestions... though, obviously, I may not take them.
This was a movie trilogy whose creators had no clear story to tell, no characters that they truly loved or understood, and no burning creative vision that they wanted to share with the world. It exists only as an exercise in corporate cynicism and greed. What a wasted opportunity.
I want to believe they had something planned out at the start, but too much freedom allowed for each director to do whatever they thought was good and didn't follow the previous. I hate to be on the disappointed with RJ bandwagon, but really, his film wasn't about the story, but trying to play with the audience.
@@CosmosProductions234 The Force is a powerful thing and we the audience have no idea what the upper limits of it is. That's what makes the Force so fascinating and mysterious. The Force may have no upper limits, at least none we can fairly define so everything Palpatine did was within reason. To put it plainly, You can't say he can't do it because you don't know what the most power use of the Force is. So how did Palpatine escape the exploding Death Star 2? Maybe Palpatine's essence was transferred to a clone or another vessel in some way like what Emperor Valkorion could do. Speaking of Valkorion, he did use Force Lighting (in the Battle of Asylum) in a matter that Palpatine did in with almost the same results. Valkorion created a Force Lightning Storm big enough to disable/destroy 100s of ships fleeing Asylum. Just saying. Maybe Palpatine used the Force to land safely and took a shuttle and escape the Death Star 2. Considering that Luke escaped the Death Star 2 with enough time, Palpatine would have had plenty of time to do the same. I can sit here and write many many more scenarios of possible ways that Palpatine could have escaped the explosion of the Death Star 2 but clearly you have put some deep thought into this and come to the conclusion that escape for Palpatine was impossible and therefore dumb.
I’m going to be honest here, with this ending to the sequel trilogy what exactly was the point of this trilogy? We learn that the New Republic failed because Palpatine lived... Luke’s Jedi academy failed because Palpatine lived... Leia and Han failed as parents because of Vader and/or Luke? The beginning of the trilogy made okay sense with Luke being a hermit like Yoda and Obi wan and Han watching over Rey on Jakku to make sure nothing happens to her. Then the second movie came along that didn’t do anything except killing the “main villain” which kinda concluded the whole trilogy. Then the third movie came along and tried to erase the first two movies and tried to make it stand on its own, which it was okay, but all in all it doesn’t make sense overall. I’m not really sure what the timeline is either. For example Rogue One flowed nicely into the original trilogy the same did for the prequels, especially Revenge of the Sith. You can argue that the first two prequels were stand alone films in themselves but at least all the prequel movies took place years between each other. For 1 and 2 the timeline was about 10ish years while between 2 and 3 was like 5ish years. The sequel trilogy’s timeline is messy because everything takes place pretty much in the same month. Episode 7-9 doesn’t feel like years went by only a month for the entire 3 movies. So are we suppose to accept that revolutions in this future of 30 years after ROTJ are a lot faster? If this was Palpatines plan all along why was it so easy for this band of Rebels to defeat him? I mean they only had a dozen troops plus Landon’s Deus ex machina with the rest of the galaxy at the end of the movie. The sequel trilogy pretty much ruined how empires rise and fall because no one apparently knows anything about history anymore. It’s pretty lame knowing that Palpatine ruled the entire galaxy for like 50 years then he “died” lost control then somehow gained control again 30 years later and now “died” again.
Rey waited. The lights above her blinked and sparked out of the air. There were stormtroopers in the base. She didn't see them, but had expected them now for years. Her warnings to General Leia were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway. Rey was a Jedi Knight for fourteen milliseconds. When she was young she watched the spaceships and she said to Unkar Plutt "I want to be on the ships." Plutt said "No! You will STAY AND SCAVENGE JUNK!" There was a time when she believed him. Then as she got oldered she stopped. But now in the space station base of the Resistance she knew there were stormtroopers. "This is Leia" the radio crackered. "You must fight the Sith!" So Rey gotted her lightsaber and sliced through the wall. "SHE GOING TO KILL US" said the stormtroopers. "I will shoot at her" said Captain Phasma and she fired the rocket missiles. Rey slashed at her and tried to blew her up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill. "No! I must kill the Sith" she shouted Then Kylo Ren Force-Skyped "No, Rey. You are the Sith" And then Rey was a Palpatine.
I can at least recognize the story the prequels and expanding its worldbuilding compare to the sequel copy-paste deconstruction and destroying the past with no meaningful rebuild into its own story.
I think people are appreciating some aspects of the prequels, but those that disliked the prequels because of the flaw execution aren't going to change their mind.
They're not great movies (except Revenge of the Sith, minus some odd dialogue and funky acting in scenes, it's actually a decently solid movie). I say this as a man who unironically adores the prequels, they're not good but it comes down to execution and one or two bad ideas, not a fundamentally flawed premise constructed without any passion or love or respect for the source material. They're better than the sequels by comparison but that's such a low bar to clear that it borders on being meaningless.
Michael K, I actually meant The Rise of Skywalker (TROS) not Revenge of the Sith (ROTS), though I can see why you thought I meant that.😉 Yes I LOVE ROTS too. TROS doesn’t come close to that one.
@@austindenhoed4685 Same, TROS is surprisingly enjoyable(that's what I feel when watching fast pace films), liked it a lot, sadly the mistakes were made in TLJ and a little in TFA and TROS it self.
Aaaaand any sort of a cohesive organization ready to step in as a governmental entity to prevent a power vacuum and the typical warlord and power hungry opportunists that usually arise in said power vacuums. And besides, whose to fucking say that it'll go better _this_ time around than it before!
It's actually way worse off than at the end of RotJ, the Jedi are literally extinct, 10+ planets have been blown up including Ilum, and people are forgetting that the now-leaderless despotic First Order has access to at LEAST 1 planetkilling capital ship
@@KapnKrowe No it hasn't. It returned to Exagol and got blown up in the battle. Also, Jedi Order were fuckups, and now it can start anew without the baggage of arrogance and prejudice. Also, FO suffered crippling losses and is no longer a threat.
I find it so weird that the movie name is The Rise Of Skywalker but Ben died and a palpatine family member was the last one standing so shouldn't it be called The Rise Of Palpatine. and I still think Anakin should of been the one to rise and kill palpatine cause ya know he's kinda of the chosen one at the end of the day
*You're exactly right.* Palpatine not Anakin brought "balance" to the force through his off-spring Rey. If you told me this was how it was going to end after I saw ROJ way back in '83 I'd have called you crazy. 😵 *"NUFF SAID"*
You completely misinterpreted the movie if you missed the "Rise of Skywalker" meaning. Rey had a character arc that developed through the 3 movies, in which she pretty much suffered in loneliness. She had no family( the force awakens), was unaware of her power's origin and was looking for her place in the galaxy (The Last Jedi). The force called her to Ben Solo and they both tried joining forces, she wanted someone and he wanted a powerful ally. She finally found she was a Palpatine, but she noticed that she already had a family all along while training to be a Jedi. Skywalker is her adoptive symbolic family.
@@MrRaphaelLippi Thank you so much. Could you please paste your answer to every idiot whining about "Palpatine winning and stealing Skywalker's name"? Please?
Yeh I agree, I am hoping it goes that way next time. I'm personally not a fan of going back in time. To the Old Republic. I want a new fresh untold story.
Dark House Comics did a wonderful series set 100 years past BoY that had all new characters etc while still honoring the legacy. It is called SW Legacy...and it follows Cade Skywalker, Luke’s grandson. It was before the dark times, before the Disney empire took over and threw it all away. Honestly they could have adapted that story and would have been great if they left out SJW social agenda stuff out on top..
Yes we could have avoided seeing the violation of beloved original trilogy characters and it wouldn’t have destroyed the importance of return of the Jedi ending
Read the series Star Wars: Legacy from Legends. Takes place 100+ years after the OT, and is 50+ issues long. If you're unfamiliar with the lore, Issue #0 fills you in on what you need to know.
I loved that you brought up the fact that constructive criticism is being looked at as "hate" by people. It's a massive issue in the fanfiction world where people believe just because you /can/ put something online means no one has the same right to point out flaws in the work (bashing/hate/trolling aside). The really terrible thing is that the actual big names in the movie industry are using this very attitude as a way of deflecting when the fans and/or critics actually have valid complaints about a movie or show.
Andrew Belton People can’t handle criticism anymore. They’re treating it all as abuse when it really is just wanting better things for everyone, and this is why movies are getting dumber.
It's not just in the movie world. It's also when you try to discuss anything political with people. They take everything as a personal attack, and feel the need to stick to their "team" instead of thinking for themselves and questioning authority. Really sad. Tribalism has fully gripped the masses, and is tearing apart the world.
"But for now I'm still working on the outline because oddly enough, I think it's a good idea to have a solid gameplan in place before tackling something like this." 🤣🤣🤣 Trolling Level: Grandmaster

@@ElectromagNick But Rey is a female (the force incarnate too) and Palpatine is the patriarchy. Feminism always wins in the end so Palpatine died from Disney's point of view.
I'll take that action. You can't keep a good baddie down, and he's probably right now waiting in line at the revolving door to leave Supervillain Hell. Probably he'll be back in a comic, a novel or a TV series though (I can't see them going to that well again in a feature film, even Disney can't be that stupid...)
Honestly, I disagree, that already happened in the OT, if u want to see that go watch those. I like how each movie felt like one of the old characters would help and mentor the new gang. 7 was Han, 8 was Luke, 9 was Leia. It also gave Leia a much greater role in Star Wars which I also appreciate. I don’t get how y’all complain about too much fan service but then want this which really wouldn’t serve any purpose.
Lukas Wegrzyn why are we so shook when Spider-Man reunites with Tony at the end of Endgame? Because we can’t help but love when characters react to each other after an extended period of time apart. Whether or not you want to argue if it would make the film a better experience is a different conversation, but you can’t argue that wanting to see the original gang in a room together was a reasonable expectation and was a missed opportunity
Francesco Mac never saw endgame, not really a marvel guy, but I do like spiderman, those are pretty much the only marvel super hero I like, and I grew up with the Toby maguire ones so that’s prolly why. Yeah, that’s sounds pretty neat, and I’ve heard of the peter and tony father-son ish relationship they have, but it serves a purpose, to reflect on their relationship and to show how peter is ready to move on as an avenger without tony leading the way, and it shows peters maturity. But having the old Star Wars gang, shootin at those stormtroopers and flyin the old millennium falcon again just like the olden days, doesn’t serve the new characters and doesn’t develop the old gang either. This would be super obvious, half baked fan service, but we have people already complaining about how much fan service was in these movies, I’m not saying you exactly, but people just move the goal posts so much for these movies when it comes to criticism and don’t uphold the old movies to the same standards. That’s all I’m saying
Lukas Wegrzyn why we hate how Luke, Han and Leia and even Lando didn’t get their screen time because they never said “bye” to each other on the screen. NO ONE WOULD HAVE A COMPLAINT if our old heroes were in episode 7 and we ended episode 7 by our heroes giving the falcon to the new heroes, Luke training the new heroes and Leia training the new batch of resistance generals. WHY would anyone have a problem with that? No one would, but people do have a problem splitting up our heroes so they didn’t take away from the spotlight. And then we wouldn’t see them again in 8 or 9, no one would’ve had a problem with our old heroes only in one of the movies to set up the new heroes for the next two movies. You can’t possibly think I’m wrong or anyone else is wrong for making our heroes split up and not have a reunion moment for Disney trying to cash in nostalgia factor. Case in point RJ split up our new heroes in TLJ... PEOPLE HATED THAT. and yet we’re suppose to like how our old heroes were split up and used as clickbait for these movies?
So many unconditional loving fans... They got what they deserved, a movie for kids who couldn't care more about logic, storytelling or tradition. Thanx!!!
Search the force and you will see that the point of the Prequels was George Lucas expanding his vision of the Star Wars universe by more fully fleshing out Anakin Skywalker and the Emperor and seeing the fall of the Jedi Order. Although the OG Trilogy is Star Wars at it's best the new Sequel Trilogy (NON-CANON) is Star Wars at its worst because it has no heart or soul, uninteresting characters, and no story to tell; only misguided agendas, politics and propaganda to drivel about as well as toys and tickets to be sold. The prequels are inspired, technologically brilliant, coherent, masterful with battle scenes, part of this universe and a joy to watch alongside the OG Trilogy. Star wars Movie Cannon stops at ep 6 Return of the Jedi and the only Disney SW movie I'd consider adding to the mix is Rogue One in between ep 3 & 4 because of the badass Vader scene at the end.
Lukas Wegrzyn Most movies are made to make money, but as long as the story and characters are good, it can be forgiven or forgotten. Only in cases like this trilogy where it’s painfully obvious that it deserves to be called out.
keepitfreshkid93 wow. Just wow. Watch all three prequels in a row and tell me they’re a joy to watch. Ha! What a liar. So we forget about the terrible acting, the awful dialogue, the awkward cgi (especially the clones). Yeah, the “masterful battle scenes” when jar jar just wins like an idiot against an entire army completely on accident. Get a load of yourself, George Lucas is just a guy, he’s not a messiah or a god. His movies are flawed, just like all movies. Are the ST amazing, no. I don’t like TFA & TLJ but they’re are definitely not as boring as the phantom menace and attack of the clones. I like revenge, it’s my favorite movie, but I still see its flaws. The stiff dialogue, bad acting, bad cgi is still there. Just like Rise, i see it’s flaws, where did palpated come from, why can force ghosts do pretty much anything, why is hux the worst Star Wars character ever, but I still like it. I’m not gonna pretend that one trilogy is perfect and the other is garbage. That’s just not true. Ur acting like a little kid who can’t make rational criticisms. “Disney=Bad because uhh... money” and “prequels are technologically brilliant and have masterful battle scenes because George Lucas is a god and he is amazing and omg I love George Lucas”
ForceMaximus84 what? This would be true if the people judging the movies were being unbiased to all the movies. Nope, the OT is untouchable, the prequels are amazing now all of a sudden, and the ST is a war crime. The OT is the only trilogy made not expecting to be a cash cow. If the prequels were made just for story, their wouldn’t be a shit ton of toys, games, books, comics, etc to come with it. Same with the ST. But we all forgive the old movies because you think George Lucas is a god not just a dude
All us Star Wars fans want is a good, character driven story in the Star Wars universe. Personally i dont care if its about a twi lek slave or about the leader of the galaxy. Just give me a good story, well written characters and im a happy camper. Its why the Mandalorian works so well and has become one of my fave characters.
The trilogy ends with Rey - the most powerful force user we've ever seen - taking up residence at the old moisture farm. To farm the moistness. That's what she does now. The most powerful force user ever. Good trilogy, great ending, would watch again. Can't wait for next trilogy where we fight the Emperor again and end with the hero becoming a pod racer.
I don't think she intended to stay there, she just went there to bury the lightsabers and move on to do... whatever, i guess. However it doesn't make any sense why she'd bury them on a planet and location absolutely hated by the previous cast. Luke wanted desperately to leave, and his aunt and uncle were murdered in that house. Han spent a lot of time in carbonite there, and Leia was forced to be a slave girl by the biggest crime lord on the planet... so why the heck would ANYBODY in that family want to be remembered in that place? They wouldn't. It was an excuse to pay lipservice fanservice and get Rey staring at the twin suns. Also Rey would absolutely hate another desert planet after growing up miserable on one herself. Gosh, this movie is full of both trying hard to please fans and not trying very hard either. Weird.
@@nTrylo No, I don't 'hate' it as such, I just think that is really poor quality. Just saying someone is a 'hater' is such a lazy response and says more about the person making the accusation, that they are far too thin-skinned about something they think is wonderful so think everyone else should think it is wonderful. That's primary school stuff.
People that accept everything and "feel like kids again" with something as dumb and unprofessional as this movie are just simpletons, imagine a movie of this caliber say something like "somehow Palpatine is back" and that makes you happy... oh, boy
Gerry Blue Agreed.Theericbutts (The infamous guy who cried during the first trailer for TROS ) is the worst example of a fanboy who accepts anything SW because it makes him feel like a kid.
Oh my God.... we could have had Luke and Anakin interacting with each other. Not Vader.... Anakin. Luke could finally have had the father he never knew, who could even had taught him all he knew of the old ways, and exactly what caused him to go down the path that he did. Because he cut himself off from the force, Luke turned his back on his father. I don't know why this is the first time I've truly thought about this, but.... now it's probable Luke will never know the man that his father was, instead of the monster. ... I'm going to need a bit.
I agree, but it would been impossible for them to something like the Thrawn Trilogy, for example, because all the acting crew have aged 30-odd years, and Thrawn is set 5 years after RotJ. I give Disney a pass for its standalone films, and I really think the company would've been better served making more of these type, rather than a new trilogy. My personal preference: do a story on Cade Skywalker, Luke's great-great-grandson. Now that one is interesting!
@@cammankingdom Yep :P I only mention that because not a lot of people actually think outside the narrowness of exact timeline. I'm glad you and I agree :)
It should have been anakin who talked to Ben on the cliff instead of Han. And it should have been anakin to come back and defeat Palp after Rey gets whooped
Yes that would have been better, given his adoration for Vader, if Anikin appears after Rey has healed him, when he's left as Ben Solo again, maybe Kylo could have looked down at his lightsaber on the ground, debating picking it back up again, and Anikin's voice coming in saying: 'Don't' and then he turns and Anikin's Force ghost is there. You wouldn't even have to show what happens, just a hard cut to Rey on the Island and we don't see Ben again until he appears at the end. It would have been a good Parallel to Luke consulting Rey.
OT: An inspiring adventure about rebellion against an empire... PT: ...Ok but why, when, where, how? ST: An uninspired adventure about rebellion against an empire.
For the next poll: How do you think this trilogy will stand its ground when it has another decade or two under its belt and we have something else to debate over? Will it still be a "hot topic" or will it come around to be much more universally loved like the prequels are? Johan.
I don’t hate the Sequel Trilogy, I just think it doesn’t need to exist especially after the fact. Ultimately, what was the whole point to it? What did this trilogy accomplish?
Thank you for making the difference between "hate" and "criticism". It's getting pretty ridiculous these days. It's perfectly ok to like a movie a lot of people don't like, it's also perfectly ok to dislike a movie most people like. The problem comes when you attack people or call other people's opinions wrong, you can still disagree with people while not being mean or ignorant about it.
You’re so right in your last thoughts. I love the Mandalorian and love that I can love something Star Wars again. After the sequel trilogy I thought Star Wars was dead for me at least and it’s great to know that it isn’t.
You raise some excellent points as always. Thor, you're really the only UA-camr i can enjoy talking about Star Wars at length anymore. You're by far the most level-headed and interesting one to listen too. Keep up the great work.
Just remember, everyone: we now know that Disney Star Wars is undeniably terrible and now that the trilogy is over, we can have a fresh start. When the next movie comes out, we have no reason to see it. No risk of FOMO. No need to be curious. The trilogy is over and anything new would be new. So better to not even start.
Solo wasn’t bad. Not great, but not bad. Rogue One was pretty rad. The Mandalorian was awesome. Yeah they fucked up the main movies, but Disney has done pretty well with side story stuff. If someone with more competence or cohesive vision would do main story movies with the care and quality that is given to side story projects then that would be good. Disney is 35/65 for quality, not favorable to them. But there is promise. It’s not 100 percent.
This is how it went when I got home from the theater: Wife: "How was it?" Me: "My disappointment could not be overstated." Wife: "oh..." Me: "yeah..." Wife: "LET'S WATCH SEASON 1 OF THE MANDALORIAN AGAIN!" Me: "I love you." Wife: "I know."
Hater: A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's/thing's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person/thing. Hating, the result of being a hater, is not exactly jealousy. The hater doesnt really want to be the person he or she hates, rather the hater wants to knock somelse down a notch. Critique: evaluating (a theory or practice) in a detailed and analytical way. Nitpicking: engaging in a fussy or pedantic fault-finding with insignificant details. Point is there's a HUGE difference between Hating, critiquing and nitpicking.. People aren't hell bent on hating Disney Star Wars.. They're hell bent on making sure this trilogy doesn't succeed while doing things they wish were done differently.. First off they wanted a sequel trilogy to be Luke focused.. So when we got an unknown character instead, that was already strike one.. The character is going to be female?? Strike two!! That's not a sexism thing it's more of a anti-societal stance.. People think Rey was made a female simply to pander.. But I honestly feel it was strictly to have something different than what we had.. People wanted to see more from force sensitive Leia in the original so I highly doubt either side is right on this, it's not sexism to roll your eyes at Disney casting a female lead and it's not pandering that they did either.. So where did strike 3 occur?? When Luke tossed his lightsaber and effectively backed out of episode 8 as a Jedi until the final act and really the entire Last Jedi film.. That's was the straw that broke the camel's back and caused all of this polarization within the fandom.. Don't get it twisted though there are legit complaints to be had though.. Pacing in episode 9 was lighting fast, TLJ had a few unnecessary narratives that stoat in the face of the prior movie and TFA did match a hope almost best for best if you want to look at that as a negative.. BUT there were tons of problems with all 3 and the fact that a lot of people weren't alive during the time it was released really shows and the ones who were seem to have forgotten how it was back in those days.. So people who have gone back and watched them, view it with nostalgia in mind and give passes for certain mistakes.. Biggest problem I have with the video though.. The fact that you tried to criticize Episode 9 for unbelievable feats of power.. Bro.. I know for a fact that you've at least read through some of the Legends material and you CAN NOT sit here and tell me with a straight face that the feats in those stories were any less over the top if not exponentially worse when it comes to being over the top with the power some people held.. So really what it comes down to these days is, people just want to be right.. Everybody wants to be Nostradamus and say "See I knew this was going to happen.." or "It went bad because they didn't do what I thought was best.." individual fan superiority complex is the true cause of all of this.. If we all, and this is me included, could just shut up and watch and go in with no agenda or really preference for what should happen.. We would enjoy films so much more.. But everyone has to be an expert critic..
Long story short, to be an actual critique you have to give a non biased, get informative breakdown of things and offer a better scenario that could HELP..
I’m a huge fan of your page and have only recently discovered it over the last year, I respect your love of Star Wars and your deep insight into the Star Wars universe. You have touched on many great points and brought my understanding up a level. I’m not the “ deep dive guy” I’m just a loyal fan of Star Wars. It is my #1 favorite movie of all time, it’s the reason I love movies PERIOD! And I wish you nothing but good luck and well wishes on your project “ the sequel trilogy “ and would like to throw my hat into the ring as the voice of Finn! He’s my favorite character in the sequel trilogy and wouldn’t mind taking a shot at it, I’m not a professional actor or even amateur, but I would definitely take every measure to do the best job possible and to make sure he is portrayed the way your vision of him would be.
I thought that it was poetic that the Skywalkers turned a Palpatine into a Jedi instead of a Palplatine trying to turn a Skywalker into a Sith. You all experienced a completely different trilogy than I did. ... and that's ok.
This trilogy existed to recoup Disney's investment. That's all. They went and gave what most fans wanted: pure nostalgia. They pretended the Prequels never happened, nailed the aesthetics, but gavve us a generic story thats basically a copy of the original trilogy, diluted Anakin's sacrifice, disrespected Luke.... anyways. Total chaos and mishandling of the new important characters. But they got their moneyback, so there is no garantee they learned something from this mess. Lets see what happens when they give Favreau and Filoni the reigns of Lucasfilm.
Lucas had an original story with the prequels at the very least. Disney's trilogy is just a modernized original trilogy with new faces supplanting the old.
And not even interesting new faces to replace the old, either dumb, boring or contrived new faces, some of the least interesting or memorable characters since jar jar binks.
The director should not have mattered. The STORYTEAM, the LORE CONTROL, should have written, planned out, outlined, the trilogy. The director just, does the film aspect, the cinematography, the small sections of scenes from the outline. That's it! The director should not also be the writer when dealing with an ongoing storyline.
Absolutely. Luke Skywalker IS Star Wars and everything in the originals hinged on him. Setting him aside in Episode VII was the first and biggest poor decision of the sequel trilogy.
TROS totally could have undone the damage caused by The Last Jedi. Not only could it have undone the damage, it coukd have retroactively made TLJ better just like how TLJ retroactively made TFA worse. Here are four key things that would have changed everything. 1. Have Luke Skywalker give.a long and meaningful monologue to Rey about how she needs to conquer her fear, because fear is what brought down both Luke and Anakin Skywalker, two of the greatest Jedis of all time. 2. Give a brief but real explanation for why the Holdo Manuever only worked that one time. 3. Have Luke make a passing reference to how Yoda was a trickster and made him think he could actually call down real lightning. Had theu done that, and then not done all the new terrible things this movie did, it could have saved the trilogy.
@@MetalSandman999 I don't know MetalSandman, fixing TLJ is a pretty tall order. Take the Holdo Maneuver for instance: What we know about Hyperspace from Star Wars canon is that it is a dimension outside of spacetime where the laws of physics (i.e. Einstein's general and special relativity) don't apply. When a ship uses its hyperdrive to enter hyperspace it basically disappears and leaves space and enters into some kind of space less dimension (time must still exist because time travel doesn't appear to be a thing while using hyperdrive). The ship can then re-enter back into regular space almost anywhere as long as a safe path with proper exiting coordinates are provided. Which is why Han said the following to Luke in a New Hope: "Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?" Holdo's ship could never obtain light speed in real space. It had to jump into hyperspace then jump back into regular space at whatever speed it was traveling before the jump was made. I suppose it could have collided with or even hyperdrove through another ship if the coordinates entered into the navicomputer was sensitive and accurate enough. However, this presents problems for the previous Star Wars narrative. The Death Star for instance could have been bombarded by droid or computer navigated ships to its complete destruction. But that didn't happen so using hyperdrive as a weapon apparently wasn't an option. Stating that it was a "one in a million shot" is just lazy writing and a complete ripoff of what Han said to Luke when he blew up the first Death Star. The Holdo Maneuver should have never happened! But it did and unfortunately, as Disney has no doubt learned it will be difficult to fully explain away. I could go on but I have written enough which will unlikely be read by that many people anyway. Suffice to say that a lot of mistakes were made in these movies only to be followed by a lot more...
How the hecc did the resistance fleet not get completely destroyed in five seconds after they showed up. Palpatine's fleet was massive and had hundreds of tie fighters against 12 resistance ships.
I didn't think fan-fiction was even a big thing anymore. I'm writing a Death Stranding fic and I often wonder who's out there making some wholesome SW literature. Glad you're steppin up, I can't wait to hear/read it.
I watched it on New year's Eve. It's the best comedy I've seen all year! I pirated it and I'm very glad I did because I was laughing so hard I would have been a distraction in a theater. It's bad fanfiction!
"It's bad fanfiction on a big budget" is exactly what my girlfriend said to me about it when we saw it together on the Sunday of its opening weekend, and I completely agreed with her XD
My favorite part of the sequel trilogy was watching your videos, listening to your opinions, nitpicks, and enjoying this space you made where the community can have a healthier star wars conversation. Thank you so much
You mentioned a couple things that I have been feeling: 1. That you want to and are going to make a fan fiction of how you want the sequels to have been 2. You would be curious to see what Rian Johnson would have done with episode 9. Being disappointed with 7, 8, and 9, I find myself draw to the old Star Wars Legends materials, fan theories/rewrites, and even George Lucas’s plans for the sequels, and my mind longs for what could have been. Then I discover the Star Wars Infinities comics and the upcoming “Marvel What If” animated series. Star Wars deserves an animated Star Wars “What if?” show. It should take inspiration from Legend books, comics, and video games, as well as fan theories. It would explore things like: “What if Rian Johnson directed Episode 9?” “What if JJ Abrams directed Episode 8?” “What if George Lucas made 7, 8, and 9?” Disney could even do a fan fiction contest and the winner’s story gets turned into an episode. I think a lot of fans would love to watch it because that is exactly what we’re all already doing, wishing things were done differently...
Dave Orla - Just buy that Disney Visual Guide and Novelization (sold separately, batteries not included) and get the weak back story as to how Rey was able to download Kylo’s teaching...
I think I’ve finally figured out how I’d like to describe my opinion on the sequel trilogy. It’s like driving to the mall for clothes shopping at your favorite store. We start out with episode seven, which is the beginning journey to the theoretical mall. So far, we’re on a pretty good normal route without man6 bumps or accidents along the way. The end of seven is like getting on the freeway. It’s a little nerve racking because you don’t know what’s coming up next but you’ll know you’ll end up at your destination. However, the last jedi is like a bunch of accidents and road blockages that keep you from getting to the mall. You try and find a new route on the freeway to make it but you keep either missing the available exits, getting stuck in traffic or behind an accident, and you start hating the entire trip. Finally, you have to decide to go to a completely different mall that you’ve never been too before. Only now you’re more annoyed than ever because you have to take an even longer trip to get there. The kids are complaining and you’re hating on yourself for not having a backup plan or for even planning to go out. Then we get to the rise of Skywalker. You arrive at the new mall either optimistic or hopeless. You may be super relieved and excited or annoyed and angry. I personally was the annoyed and angry but trying to be happy person. However as you start exploring this mall you find that none of your favorite clothing stores are in this mall and instead have all these different versions that just don’t cut it. Everything in the mall is in strange locations. You finally just have to go and buy a few things, but save the rest to just spend online later. Like the rise of Skywalker, the trip only gets worse. Your car is out of gas, you forgot to refill it, your kids are hungry and don’t want to eat cereal bars. You’re thirsty, tired, and want to go home but you can’t. You just have to sit and wait that help/hope will come. It does eventually, but you leave feeling like this was all an unproductive waste of time and you’re never going out shopping again. There, that’s how I view the sequel trilogy: a trip to the mall that started out normal and even great but all these other uncontrollable variables turned the trip into a nightmare and now you’d rather stay home and online shop/watch mandatory an, rather than going to the actual store/seeing more Disney Skywalker Star Wars films in theatres.
Let me make this straight - disaster 1/2 - disappointing 1 - bad 1 1/2 - lackluster 2 - average 2 1/2 - good 3 - very good 3 1/2 - great 4- amazing 4 1/2 instant classic 5 - GOAT I give it a 3
Write the trilogy and then send it to Disney for the remake Also the Empire Strikes Back is such a masterpiece, it's the bedrock this franchise sits on IMO
The fact that Mandalorian is so well received by comparison tells it all. Respect the lore and expand it in a meaningful way and the fans will follow. Make an effort to put smiles on the faces of hard core fans...and the casual fans will happily jump on board as well because they just want some kinda Star Wars. Disney went the opposite direction on the trilogy and it's a huge fail.
None of the 5 Star Wars films that Disney has produced have added anything positive to the Star Wars universe. The only decent film in my opinion was Rogue One, a film that many fans hated due to the lack of Jedi and minimal character development. I cared more about the death of K2SO in Rogue One than I did for any character in the new trilogy whether they lived or died. If the rumors are true that Kathleen Kennedy handed JJ and Rian details that they had to work into their stories (pushing her agenda) then the failure falls squarely at her feet. JJ’s two films were boring fan service and Rian’s was absolute trash but if they had to craft their stories around strict agendas inserted by Kennedy then they both did fairly well in spite of unfavorable circumstances.
Here is an analogy I came up with the describes how I feel about this movie. Imagine you had a car. A really nice car. And somebody came along and took all four tires off, just took the wheels right off. And you're like what the crap! Now the thing won't run. But then someone else came along and put one of the wheels back on. And you say, thanks I guess. It still won't run but I appreciate that. That's how I feel about this movie. Episode 9 came along and put one of the tires back on my car. The car still won't go with only one wheel but it was a nice gesture. The previous two movies took off all the tires. And I would even go so far as to say episode 8 took out chunks out of the Upholstery, cut the brake lines and lit the car on fire. But thanks JJ Abrams for putting one of the wheels back on.
I'd give it a 3 memorable and fun nostalgia filled moments with some good characters and humor but with alot of poor writing, poor character development, and an overdependance on nostalgia and some moments that completely degrade the lore of Star Wars and retelling the same stories with minor tweeks making this series pretty much pointless.
Valid criticism and venting are two different things too. I often just say how I feel like if I think a movie is just not worth discussing about. When something is from bottom of the barrel, then it is and no discussion can change that feeling. I guess if someone liked movie like TROS, which I by the way despise, it only means that we disagree, no more no less. The problem is that disagreement is something not everyone can handle, so they call other haters. It is okay to enjoy a movie that someone else did not, and while I understand that agreement creates friendship and other welcome qualities, sometimes things are just too messed up to agree upon.
13:15 : Those have been my exact thoughts, ever since 'Last Jedi". I remember actually doing this back in High School, where one person obviously had an idea of where the 'story' was going to go, but the next person obviously had something very different in mind ^_^
You want to know what Rian Johnson would have done with this movie? Probably Rey and Kylo having a knife fight while James Bond tries to figure out who killed Palpatine.
"i laughed, had fun and that's what Star Wars is meant to be" Yeah, I was totally just 'havin fun' like a Transformers movie when Luke sets his father's funeral pyre alight. Just mindless fun. Nothing meaningful. Jesus christ.
That's my problem with some people, some Star Wars fans. As long as the movie goes fast and intense, they'll have a great time even if the movie doesn't make any sense. But that's Abrams' films in a nutshell. His movies are rides. They scream, they go fast, they have lights everywhere, but no substance behind them. I mean look at TFA : exact same formula. And that's why people LOVED it at the time, they fell for it hard. And then they woke up. It will be the same for ROS. Funny enough both audience scores for TFA and ROS are at 86% on RT.
@@AlexYBITW Look at any of JJ's work, Trekkies are much more critical of him and it's sad to see SW fans have such a "it should just be flashing lights" thoughts about Star Wars.
Hey Thor, just an idea, given one of your comments at the start of this video, it might be an interresting and telling poll question idea to ask things like : Who went and who did not go. And perhaps for nuance whether they made a point of not going or perhaps other reasons.
For those who want to skip my little preamble and get right to the results and then comments: 1:14
Hey, I was curious, as you're writing your own version of sequels do you have already all characters you want are set or wouldn't mind a donation of character that in competent hands could be really interesting? if no then oh well, at least asked, but if yes then how to contact you about details
Also about RoS (not gonna use same abbreviation as for episodes 3 and 6) for me one thing that is bit concerning is that Disney might treat this movie almost like ultimatum, to intentionally take away from it conclusions that will allow them to keep getting away with their BS practices when handling franchises just to make quick buck, so conclusion for now as movie is reported as financial failure will be that fan-service don't pay off and they can as well ditch it, or if movie was successful they could take it as sign that they can keep writing on as low quality as they want if they smear it all over with fan-service... one way or the other they can get away with their scammy practices, and might be my pessimism towards big corporations but... we've seen that only greed can keep them on top

Even Spaceballs II: The Search For More Money would have been better.
Best new character Bobba Frick or however it's spelled.
I want to believe they had something planned out at the start, but too much freedom allowed for each director to do whatever they thought was good and didn't follow the previous.

This is the Way
I’m going to be honest here, with this ending to the sequel trilogy what exactly was the point of this trilogy?
Canonically the Clone Wars lasted three years, the interval between III and IV was 19 years and the entire time elapsed from IV to VI was 4 years...

When she was young she watched the spaceships and she said to Unkar Plutt "I want to be on the ships."
Plutt said "No! You will STAY AND SCAVENGE JUNK!"
There was a time when she believed him. Then as she got oldered she stopped. But now in the space station base of the Resistance she knew there were stormtroopers.
"This is Leia" the radio crackered. "You must fight the Sith!"
So Rey gotted her lightsaber and sliced through the wall.
"SHE GOING TO KILL US" said the stormtroopers.
"I will shoot at her" said Captain Phasma and she fired the rocket missiles. Rey slashed at her and tried to blew her up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
"No! I must kill the Sith" she shouted
Then Kylo Ren Force-Skyped "No, Rey. You are the Sith"
And then Rey was a Palpatine.

Additional failure doesn't make the prequels any better.

Dark House Comics did a wonderful series set 100 years past BoY that had all new characters etc while still honoring the legacy.
Really sad. All they needed for the nostalgia factor , was to put the old characters together on-screen one last time.
I agree.
Thanx!!!

Phil 21 because that definitely wasn’t the goal of the prequels either. Open your eyes you sheep.
Weird.
That Broom boys gonna have his work cut out for him.
The sequel trilogy was a hot mess and ruined the final ending/lore for Luke, Leia, Han, and Anakin.

People that accept everything and "feel like kids again" with something as dumb and unprofessional as this movie are just simpletons, imagine a movie of this caliber say something like "somehow Palpatine is back" and that makes you happy... oh, boy

Shouldve just used the books that was all laid out source material
I agree, but it would been impossible for them to something like the Thrawn Trilogy, for example, because all the acting crew have aged 30-odd years, and Thrawn is set 5 years after RotJ.
I give Disney a pass for its standalone films, and I really think the company would've been better served making more of these type, rather than a new trilogy.
My personal preference: do a story on Cade Skywalker, Luke's great-great-grandson. Now that one is interesting!

Steven Edwards exactly. It was his obsession over Vader that turned him and it would be the ghost of anakin that brings him back
OT: An inspiring adventure about rebellion against an empire...
PT: ...Ok but why, when, where, how?
ST: An uninspired adventure about rebellion against an empire.
For the next poll:
How do you think this trilogy will stand its ground when it has another decade or two under its belt and we have something else to debate over? Will it still be a "hot topic" or will it come around to be much more universally loved like the prequels are? Johan.

I don’t hate the Sequel Trilogy, I just think it doesn’t need to exist especially after the fact. Ultimately, what was the whole point to it? What did this trilogy accomplish?
Well it did completely unravel the previous six films and devalue the franchise to the point of being a sad joke...so there is that...

They always say "let people enjoy things", I say to them "let people politely disagree and criticize things" :)

I think that's a solid ranking of the movies right there. Well done fellow Thor watchers.
You all experienced a completely different trilogy than I did. ... and that's ok.
yo a sequel fan that is not toxic, never thought i would see one
So excited for your sequel trilogy fan fiction! Supporting your channel from France!
Lets see what happens when they give Favreau and Filoni the reigns of Lucasfilm.
i like how the intro is genuinely how you feel about and approach your videos and it also coincidentally works as a subtle dig at the sequels as well
Lucas had an original story with the prequels at the very least.
For its efforts TROS couldn't undo the damage done by TLJ. I need only to say "Luke Skywalker".
Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?"
Holdo's ship could never obtain light speed in real space.

Thank you so much
In the "I dont know, I didnt even bother watching it" category
You mentioned a couple things that I have been feeling:
1. That you want to and are going to make a fan fiction of how you want the sequels to have been
It would explore things like:
“What if Rian Johnson directed Episode 9?”
“What if JJ Abrams directed Episode 8?”
“What if George Lucas made 7, 8, and 9?”
Disney could even do a fan fiction contest and the winner’s story gets turned into an episode.
I think a lot of fans would love to watch it because that is exactly what we’re all already doing, wishing things were done differently...
I love that there are new force abilities but they just came with no effort just inconveniently

“If you like star wars you can only be positive about it”
Every time I hear that I want to puke. So stupid
Write the trilogy and then send it to Disney for the remake
Also the Empire Strikes Back is such a masterpiece, it's the bedrock this franchise sits on IMO
JJ’s two films were boring fan service and Rian’s was absolute trash but if they had to craft their stories around strict agendas inserted by Kennedy then they both did fairly well in spite of unfavorable circumstances.
itsa shame you had a "have noi planes ot watch it." option. but as you mentioend, you ran out of voting options.
4:22 gotta admit the thought alone gave me chills.
Rise of Skywalker is the least worse one of the sequels. 7th overall in the saga for me (top 6 are obviously the originals and prequels).
rogue1 beats the prequels hands down...imo
Keep giving us updates about your sequel trilogy please! Take all the time you need, I wanna see it done right.
Disney trilogy was not needed and all 3 movies were terrible / was a cash grab all the way
My Star Wars ended with return of the Jedi
Valid criticism and venting are two different things too. I often just say how I feel like if I think a movie is just not worth discussing about. When something is from bottom of the barrel, then it is and no discussion can change that feeling. I guess if someone liked movie like TROS, which I by the way despise, it only means that we disagree, no more no less. The problem is that disagreement is something not everyone can handle, so they call other haters. It is okay to enjoy a movie that someone else did not, and while I understand that agreement creates friendship and other welcome qualities, sometimes things are just too messed up to agree upon.
The film was meh and the more time passes the less I like it
