"Love your art"----is the most popular comment here. As for me, I wouldn't forget to mention your soothing voice and your flair for commentary. Love that artist in you!
I recently transitioned to digital art and really struggled - everything looked plastic. I couldn't understand why my charcoal and graphite portraits looked more "real" than my digital portraits. While looking for videos on digital art, I came across your channel - and haven't looked back! My art across all mediums, especially digital, has improved tenfold. Thank you so much for making these videos. You are an amazing artist and teacher.
Great video Elpay. Yes, go for it and dive in deeper about the illusion of realism. I think you are absolutely correct when you say that many artists don't understand that it is the illusion that defines what is art versus what is an illustration.
Yes ! I agree, it's that process of collapsing and re-establishing of the illusion within a painting that gives me joy, not just in the viewing but also in the creating 👍
I love your honest approach about how you get the lay in on the panel/paper - full time artists need to save time where they can - and who really cares how you get the sketch/layin on the paper - the real skill to me is in applying the paint.
I'm just a kid but I want to learn some realistic painting, so I watch all your videos. I really want your painting and your one of my idol now. Keep painting😄
I love how you explained your point. It really is inspiring to watch ur videos and listen to ur thoughts on art. To me as well, one of the most fascinating things about paintings is that they look so real from a distance but when you come closer to it, its basically a bunch of paint put together by talented people with ingenious hands. Its really important to give people the oppurtunity to observe all the work thats been put into and the effects of each brushstroke.
Thank you I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on what you are trying to achieve when you paint. Whilst I can appreciate the time and skills that can go into photo realism. I do not really view it as something I aspire to. If I wanted something photo realistic, I'd hang a photograph lol again let me be clear I'm not throwing shade at photo realism. It just isn't what I personally want to hang on my wall. I'm much more inclined to be fascinated to see a painting from a distance and wow at the fact that close up it looks so different, that I can see the brush strokes. I want my paintings to look like paintings 😊🎨🖌
Your commentary inspires me to become a better artist and makes me very excited to continue learning through my art. You do an amazing job on your videos and commentary in them and I genuinely enjoy watching them when I feel burnt out. You've also tought me a lot about oil painting as a whole, which is something I've been wanting to explore for a while. I guess what I'm trying to say is thanks, you're doing an amazing job and I appreciate the work and time that goes into these videos
3:27 yes! I fortunately got that really soon because once I was drawing an eye with pencils and I got the values just right so it looks real but wasn't crazy detailed like in photorealistic painting, then I realized that something to look real it has to have a "tangible" look not be full of details, just good b/w values that's it :D
I've admired your style since stumbling across you on Instagram years ago, i love the way you go to the point of realism but hold it back with your abstract backgrounds and loose brush strokes. I suspect most amateur painters like myself would love to pick any jewels from your creative process, thus any content you share will be well received. I personally would love to see a video on your typical limited pallet, and any tips for aspiring painters to achieve correct values, as you mentioned this is one of the keys to good paintings. Thank you for sharing.
Tu trabajo es EXCELENTE! Felicitaciones.
I really love your videos and explanations. Your depth of knowledge in this medium is amazing! I hope to one day have the same level of control with my art, through painting, drawing, or whatever it is. Also, I never thought to use Yupo for this, thanks for the tech tip! :)
Thanks, for the info when I’m studying realism I keep thinking to myself what’s the point if I make it picture perfect. There’s no flare to it making me get bored of it and stop right there, but with that thought it gives me a new way to approach realism as a whole.
Hi! Loved your painting method. Thanks for the video. I've painted in oil the head of a Greek statue and I think it would be interesting if I could paint only the eyes in a realistic way. Any comments or advice on how to do it? Thanks
the part where you talk about viewing the painting and having an aha moment verses thinking it may be a photograph is so excellent, i feel like hyper-realism is so boring because of this and because it brings nothing to the table, excellent video and painting, enjoyed the commentary a lot!
Thank you for your videos. Very interesting and thoughtful. Yes, I would like to hear more about trompe-l'oeil and would you have a good reference book to recommend on the technique?
Love your work and channel! Been following you on IG for a while now. Just wondering if you could do a video about mixing your paint and preparing your palette before you paint? Keep up the amazing work🙏
I'm on the edge of my seat about Trompe L'Oeil Art. Never heard before. I have got to know more. Can you do a video on this and the how to technique? In mean time.... I'm researching. Thanks so much.
I would like to see more about this way of seeing the world and painting, actually do you have any recommendation (as books other sources that helped you to improve, open more your mind towards this direction ) for people that already have some painting experience , let's say with landscape paintings but they want to dive more into this more illusional direction of painting (as you said another way of realism) ? Thank you :)
I would love to hear more on Trompe l’oeil painting. I probably miss spelled it.
I second that.
@@shastingrace3760 third that :-)

Really love the commentary; I would love to hear more about trompe-l’œil in a future video.

I have never agreed so much with a video. That distance part about people seeing their own perceiving fall apart is so true!!

Somewhere between The Joy Of Painting and a TED Talk .... Extraordinary !!!!!
Please post more on this subject...really interesting
I love this Alpay! Love to hear your thoughts on realism and painting in general. Please do more of these!
Gina Julian ❤️

Not only work is perfect but also discribsion is precious
I'm just a kid but I want to learn some realistic painting, so I watch all your videos. I really want your painting and your one of my idol now. Keep painting😄
I love your realism/abstraction style so much!! You are awesome to make a tutorial!! Thank you!

Paintings & Arts in general to a large degree is conceptual.
Wonderful to hear your thought process, would love to see more videos with commentary. Love your work!
Would absolutely love to hear more. Genuinely love your perspective
I am absolutely in love with your art style
I really like the kind of realism where you can see the brush strokes and it's not super blended but it still is realistic
I love you @Alpay Efe .... keep going good artworks
Phenomenal video! I would love to see something on your color mixing!
Wow, you have such a fantastic way of discussing both your process and the type of artist you are. I’m looking forward to more videos from you!

Painting tip for beginners: when you're using pure black, add brown to it. It help to give more depth. Try it yourself!! 🎨 🖌️
