Documentary is so well produced + crafted. You can really recognize the passion behind artists and local creators. I hope that we can start supporting each other as much as other cities support their talents. We can really flourish, and this documentary is a great step into the right path.
28:55 I was there, such an amazing show! I remember him stopping and yelling out that he wasn’t gonna start the song until he saw “at least 6 josh pits” lmao. Such a beautiful night man I still got clips on my Snapchat
Hey, thanks for sharing this and putting some artists on! Loved to hear the history to keep myself grounded and humble. I'm also a local artist, I haven't established myself in the scene entirely yet, but I am growing and learning new stuff every day. I used to be inspired by some undeniably bad artists lol, but as of late, I've changed my inspirations to more iconic and talented artists - this has helped me blossom new inspiration and sounds. I have some songs in my vault right now that really demonstrate my capabilities, and I'll be releasing them over the next couple of months!
So uh....I'm here after a certain beef and I'm so glad I stumbled onto this vid! I'm not even a rapper and somebody could do raps just on the history, getting music to Ottawa to put in the stores or play in clubs....the definition of keeping it Canadian 🇨🇦
Nice documentary. Im from Montreal. I also lived in Toronto. I grew up in the 90's. I remember seeing a music video from "Half Sized Giants" on muchmusic. i didn't know much about Ottawa's hip hop scene other than Belly. I know Eternia is from Ottawa but she moved to Toronto to go to college. Also Saukrates was originally from Ottawa and Keisha Chanté moved from Ottawa to Toronto when she was 12.
This is really dope, great watch and glad to learn the history behind the scene here in Ottawa, props to the effort put into this and to everyone who contributed! 🔥
Anyone know anything about the upcoming "Just the Beginning" show on Aug 13? Looks like it's at a community centre, says it will have up and coming hip hop artists, and only costs $18. I've never been to a rap show and don't know Ottawa at all yet. They say it's going to be a pivotal moment in the local music scene.
Ottawa is in the eastern part of The province of Ontario in Canada. It is the capital city of the country where the federal government is headquartered.
Great job on the documentary! Maybe a part 2? Or a similar documentary about the history of Slam Poetry in Ottawa? Ian Keteku was the 2010 World Cup Slam Poetry Champion. List of Ottawa hip-hop artists who didn’t get a mention: (In no particular order) 1. Organized Rhyme (Tom Green aka MC Bones, Greg Campbell aka Pin the Chameleon/DJ Pin, Geordie Ferguson aka DJ Signal) Winners of the Much Music Video Award for best Rap video in 1992. 2. DL Incognito - his album a sample and a drum machine is fire along with being a Juno award nominee for Best Rap Recording in 2007 and 2009 3. Thugli - consisting of DJ T-Wrecks and DJ Drastik wo won director of the year at the Much Music Video Awards in 2014 for “Run this” DJ Drastik also won the 2010 Red Bull Thre3style National Championship and placed 3rd in Paris at the World Championships. 3. Aspects - having recorded and performed with too many hip hop legends to mention including Wutang,G-Unit, MOP, The Lox, D12 as well as performing at Bluesfest and touring with Snak the Ripper 4.Missing Linx - Check out their ground breaking album “SpaXe Camels” consisting of: Just Jamaal the poet (Poet Laureate of Ottawa from 2017-2019) Prufrock, Cannon2X and Cheko Salaam aka Cheko7even 5. Dollar MC aka El Dollar arguably Canada’s first Latino rapper and is still active. Check out his video for “Dile” produced by HONDUROLA 6. Fonetiks - dropped the album “Sky is falling” in 2004 consisting of: Hyfidelik, Mauro, and DJ T-Wrecks had an authentic sound and dominant lyrics and I’m sure there are many more!
So many legendary names you missed tho ; Reupbeats, Greatest, Fresco, Shylock, Ghost, Otg Stiffy, Jcreole, KgJay, Jutes, Stainvisualz, Carver Dont get me wrong its a good documentary but feels rushed & the interviews could have had so much more potential
