I fell head over heels for the nose of the15 so I imagine this one is even better. Great review. Props to Glenfarclas for putting out affordable and tasty age stated whisky. The 105 is a banger for the price!
I've never seen the 105 or the 15 in my area. I have the 12, 17, 21 and the 25 and I agree they are all reasonably priced for the age.
What 24-25 yr old scotch that is still relatively affordable can you recommend that represents the age factor the best . IE , notes you could only get from older scotch.
This is the only scotch I have in my collection that is 25 years old. I don't have anything older. Sorry.
@@whiskeyisajourney Well if anything I don’t feel so left out now. I dont own any scotch over 21. Of those I don’t have many either. Only Old Pulteney, G Farclas, G Goyne.
I have also only sampled an over 21 once. It was Allt a Bahainne 23 yr. So my experience with older scotch is limited mostly to 18s.
I Feel like I’m missing out but they’re all so pricey. I was thinking about getting the 24 yr Ancnoc. It goes for @$230 w/shipping.
However I’m rethinking and for that amount I might just get two 18 yr scotches on sale. Bunnahabhain and Ledaig.
Update: I ended up buying backup bottles of both Bunna 18 and Ledaig 18 for close to the price of the Ancnoc 24. So hard for me to justify spending that money on just one bottle when two equally great experiences can be had for a similar price ($240 vs $280)
Good review. I enjoyed their 12 year more, probably due to expectations. 🥃
Thanks! The 12 came across to me as a butterscotch bomb. I enjoyed it. Cheers!
Love the flavours from this one. Incredibly drinkable. If it were a bit higher ABV, I bet it would be considered one of the all time great scotches. But then I guess it wouldn’t be priced so well (relative to other 25 YOs).
If it was proofed like the 15 I think it would be much better. Cheers.
Good honest review.
Will you be reviewing Yoichi?
Cheers 🥃
I will be reviewing Yoichi, Yamazaki 12, Miyagikyo, Hibiki Harmony, Toki, Akashi White Oak, Nikka From the Barrel, and Nikka Coffey Grain. I decided to do more then just the single malts. Should be fun. What's your experience with Japanese whiskey?
@@whiskeyisajourney impressive list… looking forward to your take.
I have only tried couple Japan Whiskeys but want your take on what’s best. Heard great things about Yoichi but haven’t pulled trigger…yet? TBD…
Cheers 🥃
@@justwhisky I didn't enjoy the Yoichi initially but about halfway down the bottle it changed for me. It's good stuff.
I'm a fan on Glenfarclas its a more robust highland malt and from the 10 year old which is more bourbon inspired with classic butterscotch notes to the 25 year old which is full and oily and sherry really standing out. The range of core bottles is priced on point and it still being family owned distillery is a special thing. The 15 is one of my favorite drams. Great review mate
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback and comment. The 15 is a popular choice in the lineup for a lot of people. Unfortunately, it's not readily available in Arizona. When I first had Glenfarclas I was astonished how much the butterscotch notes came through on the nose and palate. It opened my eyes on just how much a cask could influence whisky.
headed over to amazon to buy this based on your review as never tried a Glenfarclas, BUT came across the Glenfarclas 105 cask strength for 69 quid so bought that instead. cheers
Im a peat head for most, but glenfarclas 15 is my favourite whisky on par with Octomore. Cant wait to try the 25
The 15 is a popular choice for a lot of people. I picked up the Octomore 13.1, 13.2 and the 13.3 this year. AMAZING stuff.
Masters of Malt has this on discount to £149. Its like revisiting a good old buddy, very reminiscent of the times id buy this for £99 off amazon.
Its going to need 6 months to really come out of its shell, but initial impressions are 84.5/100. A good score by all means.
Good to know. I think I'm right at a year with this bottle being open. Cheers!
Just got a Glenfarclas 17 Yr. Paid $99. Will follow up After Friday Sushi Bar night with the Boys! !
Update the 17 was well worth the money. I let it sit for 30 for mins and sip on the same glass for 3 hrs. For sure let it sit out and breath , the longer you let it open up the better it becomes!
That's a better price then I got mine for. I paid $114.99 at Total Wine and More in Phoenix. Yum...Sushi! 🍣🍶
@@whiskeyisajourney North Cali price! So with the 17 wait 17 mins at least before sipping? I bought a sniffer glass to bring as well ! 50 cent at good will thick steam glass !
Great series Peter!
Thanks. Let's see how the Japanese Whisky series goes. Good or bad... I'm looking forward to doing it. Lots of good stuff coming out of Japan and some good history to talk about.
Actually...the 25 is absolutely fantastic. It's a 5 according to your rating scale. Opinions and flavor preferences vary 👍
A few of my friends think the same thing. They like it so much more than the others. Me...not so much. It's good, but like you said, preferences vary. Cheers!
@Whiskey is a Journey Agreed! Now....the 21 is a different story. I find it lighter on the throat and a bit more fruity than the 25, (the 25 tends to have that "whisky heat" whereas the 21 does not).
There is a Glenfarclas 21 yr, but I actually prefer the 12 yr. Haven't tried the 15 yet.
I have the 12, 17, and 21, but the 15 is the one most people say is the best in the lineup. It's not available in my area so I'll need to order of online someday.
As good as the Glenfarclas 25 is (and it's very good), there are younger, better options out there like Arran 18 (cheaper too) or the Glendronach 21 (much more expensive). In fact, the Glenfarclas 15 or even 12 year is VERY similar, but cheaper than the 25 year. Just my opinion, but I'm always right about everything!:)
I agree. All very good points. Once my 25 is gone I'm going to keep buying the 12 over the 25. Because I agree with you does that mean I'm always right as well? 🤔
amazing whisky. heavy wood influence, but nicely balanced with chocolate notes and some citrus. However, would like to see the full potential at higher abv. But I understand the rationale for 43%. Its easy to drink, smooth and almost zero burn, but maintains the complexity.
I'd like to see all of them at the same ABV as the 15. Cheers!
