I believe all versions of the Purps are valid. Each singer was chosen on their merits & to be honest, I like 'em all, each in their own era. It takes a lot of balls & talent to get up before an audience & do what they do. "Tis better to have loved & lost than never to have loved at all", so bollocks to all the critics!.
I went to see them on this tour. And give Joe credit he sounded great. They actually played Burn which Gillan would never do. Ritchie seemed much happier too.
Nevertheless, the same Ritchie said that this is one of his favorites albums of Deep Purple! And one of my favorites too! Turmer is a incredible singer lml
You know what? I have heard all DP albums since 1968 and I consider this one the best. I simply love JLT and think he could have been the perfect singer for the band. Then again...
Thank you for the comment, Joe was not wrong for Deep Purple alot of jeaulosy from the other band members....... Ritchie & Joe were very close but the others did not like it, sad isn't it?
If you think of this band and album + tour as the continuation of 1984 Rainbow including Lord and Paice, isn't it just amazing?! I happen to like every song on the record, and this one is a favourite. Pity they dropped it from the live set quite early in the tour - not sure why, as it seems to work live (remember, Ostrava was the opening night of the tour)... I understand King of Dreams never could reproduce the mystery of the studio version, but this one seems fine?
Very Blues-Rock for Purple. Sorry Prince R. Nelson, they had it first. And yes, agree with comments concerning this era, much 'Rainbow' influence. 'Eastern guitar licks." Peace
A lot of crap has and is still being said 27 years later. The album and the tour are and were both excellent! Joe is not Ian and Ian is not Joe- Both Are excellent singers in their own right. It was called Deep Purple with the addition of Joe as a replacement to Ian Gillan in Deep Purple and Not because Ritchie thought that they would make more money as Deep Purple! I Loved both the album and tour and was disappointed when they got Ian back. I would have liked them to carry on and who knows where that would haved led? Still we got Doogie and 20 years of Blackmores Night because Ritchie couldn't stand Ian coming back. Joe has only got better and better with age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even if JLT was wrong for DP, he was, and still is, a great singer!!! Personally, I can't stand DP with JLT since DP is a english hard rock band, and JLT is a (GREAT) AOR singer. There's only one singer for Purple (namely Gillan), but JLT in Rainbow was great. His solooutput is amazing, and yes- I'm a fan!!!:-) Best of luck JLT:-) Btw, DP with JLT is better than anything Blackmore has released since 1997. Talk about going downhill!!!
not fair comparing Gillan with JLT, both have different styles either in their vocal and stage attitude. JLT is great in the Slaves album, but i don't think JLT could do as great as Giilan did like Made in Japan album. Rock on !
deep purple, unfortunely, it's a Ian Gillian Band...he's a very good singer...but JLT it's much moore ! king of dreams is one of the most beautiful song I ever heard...to Blackmore, JLT is the best singer, and what you can say about a man who plays whith Blackmoore and Malmsteen ? He's incredible, with a great talent...sorry Gillian...but you stay in the DP because all members was your friend ( least blackmoore), not because you better than JLT...
Turner's an okay AOR singer. But replacing Gillan with a small, brattish American, mincing around in leather trousers and a variety of wigs, calling the audience "motherfuckers" as he goes, was never going to work in such a British band.
Something didn`t work that year inside DP, nobody knows what was it. TUrner was a good singer with Rainbow but with DP he seems a third rate singer that turns the band a third rate band as in the days of Rod Evans. DP has always had problems with the singers because you must be very very good to sing inside this band of masters.
Joe was singing a lot better than Gillan was in 1991. Now were the songs good enough? Not really. I don't blame Joe Lynn Turner for Slaves and Masters being a failure. Glover and Blackmore, Lord, and Paice weren't coming up with good enough music. Turner sounds great here though.
i love the slaves & masters album...joe's voice was perfect for this album...king of dreams, my fav joe lynn turner song

Wish they had this song when they came to the States...my favorite from the album.
Deep Purple at its finest
Hollywood Joe he was right for the time, that was the music scene then
Nevertheless, the same Ritchie said that this is one of his favorites albums of Deep Purple!
And one of my favorites too! Turmer is a incredible singer lml
We want the full show of this line up it was a superb album and tour

For those who say that this formation of Purple was just like Rainbow, you don´t know what you´re talking about...
AWESOME!
The band seemed so much more relaxed. Enjoyed this concert more the sound Seemed better too.
Ritchie is the best hands down..
Thank you for the comment, Joe was not wrong for Deep Purple alot of jeaulosy from the other band members....... Ritchie & Joe were very close but the others did not like it, sad isn't it?
Deep Purple Mark V
Jon Lord - Organ & Keyboards
Ritchie Blackmore - Guitar
Ian Paice - Drums
Roger Glover - Bass
Joe Lynn Turner - Vocals
+Neon Knight Wicked Ways (LIVE 1991 OSTRAVA)
At least with JLT on stage, Ritchie plays actual solos.
Sounds like a cross between Hughes and Coverdale!!

They only did it during the first few gigs I think.
This is sooooo Rainbow.

JON MILLER. all the personel changes get people talking and so its worth it.
Can someone repost the whole concert of this DP with JLT with the better quality audio. This one is a very bad quality.Tks in adv.
Is JLT wearing a wig?

marcel dione dp and rainbow sound like the same band. i luv em both.
