I’m a huge Tolkien fan I am just getting into this game and I agree that they hit the nail on the head when it comes to theme and lore. I think I’ve found my new favourite hobby and I enjoyed the vid. Also I loved your old models and I think you might regret repainting them.
Nice video. I wouldn’t repaint those early miniatures of yours. My first minis were a bunch of Moria goblins. I painted them when I was about 12-13. They look terrible but it fills me with nostalgia to look at them and it shows how far I’ve come with my painting technique since then.
I started playing tabletop games when the Warhammer store opened up in my local area. After 2 years of 7th Ed, and playing lots of 8th Ed 40k, I was looking for something more strategic, but still a GW game since all my gamer friends were met at the Warhammer store. No one else played, but I randomly purchased a Last Alliance infantry box just because I was such a LOTR nerd and the battle of the last alliance was one of my favorite scenes in any move. . So I really just wanted the minis to paint and to collect at first… once my box got shipped to the store, a buddy of mine was like, ‘Yooooo, what’s that?!’ And now, several years later, there is quite a few people from the store who play. I’m going tomorrow to play with a buddy who just got an Easterlings army to start, so I’m gonna bring some infantry for him to cut down to get used to everything…. And now, that’s the only table top I play for the most part… a random kill team game, maybe some Bolt Action (I have a small Soviet army), but it’s almost always MESBG. I live this game so much I’m creating a map based campaign akin to the Rome Total War board game coming out soon. . I love Total War games, I love MESBG, so I wanna mash them both together 🤪 not gonna be campaign for the faint of heart, or groups that only meet once a month,,,,, but yeah… anyways,.. that’s my story! I now I have a cool MESBG community in this area and it’s amazing 💜💜💜
We loved LOTR back in the early 2000s. Still tempted to rebuy some. Main problem was one of our group had an army of high elves and it seemed like they were way overpowered for their points, with every model having a fight score higher than anything in the evil army, and they basically never lost. Maybe the army was illegal in some way but not sure
Nice video without loud introductory music. I am only getting into it now. I have been an ancients 15mm player for 40 years. But my eyes are not as sharp now so 25/28mm is much easier to paint well. I have been a Tolkien fan since my teenage years. I was initially interested in ancient skirmish rules largely concentrating on the hellenistic period. However I have never found a rules set that I have been happy with. This is a skirmish ruleset and think I might find some good game mechanics. I always look for playability over minutae. And its all about the journey, not the destination. Nice video, keep it up.
I played a ton in the early years of the game, I have never found a miniature game I liked better. I had 6 or 7 armies, and really only stopped playing because local stores we closed and couldn't keep the community together. And while some armies were better than others in some ways I felt like as long as you were smart putting together an army you always had a chance, especially if you played interesting scenarios beyond just kill everyone
One of my favourite things about the game - different scenarios means it’s normally a completely different experience most games and always fun / gives you a chance!
This is exactly the video that I wanted to watch, I’ve just bought my first army and I’m so excited.. I don’t know anyone who plays it and actually I don’t have many friends so im hoping to get the possibility of knowing new people playing this game :)
i started with the mines of moria set when i was 10, and i've been collecting ever since. The model shop situation over here in the US is a but different tho, apparently a couple spots where i normally go have officially stopped carrying LotR miniatures and it's kinda sad. I do have a good 1000+ models with two pretty fleshed-out armies so i'm happy (for now lol)
Great video, though I would like to address more that even after buying the army books I can see that alot of the models are difficult to buy or they don't print them anymore, can't really do tornemant without official modesl. I was desperate for black numenoreans but yeah .... they need to get the other older models revamped and or reprinted. Thoughts? =)
That’s a really tough question, I think Star Wars system might be more friendly if it’s your first war game - but it would come down to preference of the universes I think. For me personally, Middle Earth would just edge it… I think!
Enjoyed watching your vid. I remember going into GW in Birmingham in early 2000 and somethong and getting to play Moria goblins against Gondor... (Numenor) with my young boys. We got the first two box sets....fast forward to last Xmas and managed to get Bains tomb boardgames for my youngest daughter...then Pelennor Fields...x 2...since then...Moria...Gondor..Mordor...Rihanna. .Serpent Horde..Oath breakers. ..all min 1000points...crazy!!!
Omg! Can’t believe it! Literally just starting out in the hobby too! And dice n cavern is my closest store! Love the video btw! Great to see some love for MESBG!
Iv been to dice cavern games, if your around there, in lincoln we have imps gaming, it has a massive selection of Lord of the rings and such a good group of players, definitely worth a look
Started playing in 2001 with my 2 mates, it started with a magazine game workshop release I still have them 1sr issue is 12 Moria goblins and 4 paints, it grew from that point we stopped playing 2003/2004 and moved to 40K but got back into middle earth when it was rebranded as middle earth, don’t play as much as we would like but still very enjoyable games I have Rohan Gondor Dead of dunharrow Orcs Isengard
Any advice on how to find people to play with? I’ve never played the game so need to start somewhere and make use of the models I’ve spent good money on 👀
Depends where you are based - but the UK and US have huge Facebook groups where you can find players and tournaments in your area! Failing that, maybe ask at some nearby game stores? Best of luck!
I wonder If I should get into it. I have a small collection but missing all of those specialized troops and GW is now even rotating that stuff out. For more FOMO I guess? It kinda sucks, I would want to have those Goblin models which will be in the shop again in a while but not all at once. I played mostly 40K and a bit of Necromunda in the past and watching MESBG battle reports, that game looks a bit one dimensional at times. Cause it ends up in a big mosh pit pretty fast. So I dont know. Does anyone recommend other systems over MESBG or is it really that good?
@@revilosmoth1101 Do you have anyone that could run an intro game for you? I know it looks like a mosh pit but there is actually a huge amount of skill and nuance to knowing which combats to fight first and what heroic actions/special strikes to use to gain an advantage. The best part is the balance, you can play almost any army and be able to win games. And you don't need to use GW stuff there are so many 3D party minis now, I even convert historical miniatures to cover periods GW doesn't.
@@JMACCSArmiesOfMiddleEarth I will have to introduce myself and then my friends but it isnt the first ruleset I learned so that should be fine. In comparison to 40K it looks a bit easier for sure. I have enough models Im just not sure If I keep them or sell them at one point. Cause my pile of shame is only growing :/. Do you have any links to alternative models? Im also thinking about getting a 3D printer at some point but thats a whole hobby by itself :D
@@revilosmoth1101 Any historical on warlordgames usualy work fine and are pretty cheap. Medbury miniatures probably has the biggest resin and STL collection. Unreleased miniatures, davale minatures are two I can remember off hand. Nice man, I really want a 3d printer as well so I can do some different minis on my channel.
@@JMACCSArmiesOfMiddleEarth Medbury is pretty nice. I also found Davale Games but they are a bit more pricey. And Hammerin Miniatures. Anyway looks like another reason to get a printer :)
Used to play this game 15-20 years ago. SOLD ALL OF IT years ago. But, I´m getting in on it again 😆 I guess I missed it too much. But I will be more conservative on the army building this time. I won´t go and try to buy all of it as I set out to do years ago 😂.
The answer is YES!, amazing game, amazing system, amazing community
Tons of MESBG content by meeee, lol
Absolutely! Love the TolKon announcement, very exciting!
Best game
I have yet to see a single person attack this game's ruleset. It's almost perfect.
Amen

Thanks I was wondering if the plennor fields starter set is good cause I might get it for Christmas great video

Your story seems almost identical to ours haha we’ve had some fun games since getting back into it!
I’m very interested in this but is there a way to play with only 2 people?!!
Majority of matches are two players - each will take control of their own army in a head to head!

I've not seen anything about a new starter set - the Pelennor Fields one is a good jumping off point, or Balin's Tomb which was recently released!
Best and most balanced set of rules GW has ever made. Blows my mind that the same company wrote the dumbster fire that is the 40k rules.
