- Visit St. Kilda - but only if the sea state is favorable. The trip started from East Loch Tarbert on the Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides. Traveling between Harris and North Uist through the Sound of Harris timing the passage with a favorable tidal race. Heading west 40+ miles into the Atlantic and seeing the islands of St. Kilda getting ever closer. Welcomed by the tall rock Stac Levenish, we arrived in the protected Village Bay on Hirta, the largest of the islands with 290m Oiseval rising. above us on our starboard side. Going ashore we had to disinfect our shoes after landing and had an orientation by a resident park ranger. Discovering the unique Soay sheep, the row of residents' houses (who left the island in 1936), museum, 100s of cleitean (strange stone storage "pods") and explored the flora and fauna as everyone headed to areas of particular interest - climbing 430m Conachair, checking out the puffins on Dun, seeing the tracking station on Mullach Mòr 361m, and even a swim for some! Great birding from the boat and on land - puffins, fulmar, diving gannets and even some dolphins joining our sea voyage. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
