We have been living in hotels for a few months and we wanted to share some tips on how to get those suite upgrades. Each brand has it's own way to reach it's highest status and how to get those upgrades.

One presumes that a good credit score is very helpful in all this. But, once you're living this lifestyle and always paying off every debt every month, you're going to get the best possible credit scores. Thanks for sharing. Robert in NYC.
Yes, you are correct, we've noticed it's gone up, quite a bit.
We love IHG and IHG loves us. A win-win. IHG Platinum Elite is much easier than Hyatt Globalist. We do not use Marriott or Hilton as our plan is to concentrate on IHG so we can get lounge access and keep that status forever. We had Hilton before, but the points required for a room seems excessive.
We are pretty much doing the same, IHG and Hyatt covers a lot of ground
Great topic! As a Marriott Titanium (Lifetime), on a recent trip to London, I stayed at a full service Marriott and tried to use Suite Night certificates for my stay (Fail). Upon check-in I asked about an upgrade to a suite (Fail). We were disappointed with our room so about 30 minutes later I spoke with the front desk supervisor and asked her to double-check to see if an upgrade was available. That's when she offered to upgrade us to a suite for an additional cost! In my experience, the Suite Night Award certificates are useless. About 80% of mine expire before I'm allowed to use them. The last time I was successful was in 2022.
Agree, it's one reason we aren't chasing Marriott as hard as Hyatt
We are Airbnb people, but after watching your video, we will look into IHG hotels and the IHG card.
Love your videos! One awesome hotel to use your Hyatt suite upgrade certificate is at the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku. Great location in the middle of Shinjuku, close to everything. I booked a regular room with points for one week and used an upgrade certificate to upgrade to Park Suite. Beautiful room. And being globalist they have perk that’s not really available at other hyatts. Not only do they include buffett breakfast downstairs, but also you can have option to have multi course kaiseiki breakfast in your suite while watch the sun rise over Tokyo skyline, can’t get better than that. They are under renovation this year, but I think they are reopening next year. You guys should check it out. Factoring in the suite upgrade certificate, the stay was worth about 4.5 -5 cents per point, pretty decent redemption
Thanks so much!
Upgrades are easier to get if you have shorter 1-2 night stays as opposed to say a 5 night stay. Sometimes I split my reservations into multiple 1 night stays to increase my chances (with the understanding that I may have to change rooms).
Loved the video, great content as usual. You two provide so much value in your videos. Been binge watch all of your videos since I came across you just over a week ago. Decided to test out this UA-cam creator thing about a month ago and started a couple faceless channels. Because of your influence, I started a third talking about the culture and traditions of travel destinations. Can't wait for your next video.
Awesome!
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City right after I became a Hyatt Globalist. It's a really nice hotel with great views of NYC and the Hudson river. Globalists have a wonderful complimentary breakfast in their restaurant. Plus you're a 2 minute walk to the Path (subway) station and a 5 minute ride to Manhattan. You'll enjoy it. Also, the Hyatt Regency in Barcelona is a wonderful property. It's a weird design on the outside, but beautiful and contemporary on the inside. They treated us like royalty! Hyatt recently opened a 2nd full service property in Barcelona. Later this year we'll be back in London at a Hyatt Regency and we've already applied a suite upgrade certificate to our reservation (easy peazy). They have 2 concierge lounges. One for families with kids, and one for members with no kids. They gave us a tour last year, and even showed us a couple of rooms. They were happy to do that for a Globalist.
Thanks for the knowledge! We will check out that London property, it's a city we want to spend more time in.
@@GroundedLifeFinances Hyatt Regency London The Churchill, is where we're booked. It's located right between Regents Park and Hyde Park. Walk to subway, Ride On Ride Off buses, and lots of shopping. There are several other Hyatt Regencys in and around London though.
Nice! Thks for the info!
I haven’t been so lucky with IHG. With my platinum status, I stayed at Intercontinental Venetian in Las Vegas. I asked for an upgrade very nicely, I got a room facing a brick wall outside my window with same type room 😂
You won't really get upgrades in the US with platinum, overseas is where it shines
@@GroundedLifeFinances thanks for the advice 👍
Hi You two. Thanks for providing this information
Thanks for another great video. I’m trying to figure out where I’d like to go for my 50th birthday next year that’s not too expensive. I have a few places in mind but can only choose one. Are you familiar with “Lee Wine Rak Thai Resort” in Thailand? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Another way is to use your points to redeem a basic room and then call the hotel's own reservation department (not central versions) and ask for a possible upsell offer to a suite that you can pay for with cash.
p.s. My workplace is near there in Jersey City, NJ. It's a very nice neighborhood. Easy access to Manhattan via the PATH train. Robert in NYC.
Thanks, hoping to get there soon!
Good informative videos. Will you be doing any Central or South American stays in near future or is Europe & Asia the two top spots?
Did you both check out all the SE asia countries before picking Bali
Omg
Can you tell me what property that was in Bali…? 😮
Gotta check that out for a future stay 😊
if you go to Bali, you should stay in Nuda dia. that’s the best area and very nice
Ubud is also nice.
What do you use for postal service living abroad.
Question from a Canadian follower. Are you able to confirm if a joint IGH card owner is able to use the privileges and rewards of the primary card owner? IHG sites seem to indicate they are able to use points for rooms reserved by primary account holder as joint owner name is on reservation also, but will lounge access privileges and points accumulate when using the joint owners card, in this case a canadian with an American holding the primary. Thanks. There doesn't appear to be a straight forward process to qualify for many of these cards without possibly exercising the joint ownership option if that would even work. Thanks again.
I vote Bali!
Planning to go soon!
Can you explain here or in a video how Hotel Status works for the different chains year after year? For instance, if I spend a year earning Elite Night credits and move up a notch on the benefit ladder then when that year is up do I keep that status level and even if I do then do I need to start all over at 0 Elite nights (or whatever I have from credit cards)? Thanks!
You earn status for that year and all of the next year
Just want to ask how are you affording 299 a night every day?
Going to Bali in November! Which IHG hotel did you like?
Baruna Bali and the Intercontinental!
Thank you!
Does anyone ever think that these benefits will go away with all the Americans now traveling all over the world and everyone using these cards, just like in the US?
Americans tend to concentrate travel to major destinations, so it is still easy to get off the beaten path and be treated accordingly.
