I review the CAB M+, and one thing that dissapoints me is that its not an interface. So I feel you on the "D.I. rabbit hole" haha. Great video btw!

Once I discovered the HDI my world changed. I think Warren Huart introduced me to it.

Same. Warren is an absolute audio wizard.

I've also been going down the DI rabbit hole and I was about ready to start looking for an Avalon since that's what Amos uses. This is a very very interesting option... one that I might actually go with. Availability and slightly lower price for what sounds to be SUPER comparable performance... man Radial just kills it.

It's good you were able to make an objective opinion. Going for gear based off what someone else uses (unless you're in a tribute band) can often lead to poor decisions lol, I've learned that the hard way. This is a great option and will be on my radar as well.

@@kernelxsanders I mean I do look at a lot of my favorite artists/channels to get some base inspiration for new gear at the very least. If I decide I want a new pedal I'll take a look at the boards of my favorite bands and then check out reviews from youtubers I trust, ya know? You're right though for sure that it can definitely lead to poor decisions if gone about the wrong way... I've got a few pedals as a result of that which are still awesome but aren't used very much lol.

I'm guessing this would also be good on vocals?

Maybe, but no mic input, no XLR input, and no phantom power.

Pretty awesome honestly. Just a hobbyist but anything that’ll help me get good tones quickly is a winner in my book.

How about a HDI vs Avalon U5 shootout?
My version of the HDI is a Blackfinger (for compression and grit) followed by a Starlifter.

Wait, the J48 is powered... it's not line level?!

Nice, good to see competition in the space but I love my Two Notes Torpedo Reload. Has the line level output feature as well and the DI captures are ACCURATE. I can record my Strandberg DI, Fryette D120 DI, and a SM57 on a Diamond cab at the same time! Then when I run the DI to the amp, it sounds just like my play through performance. A friend uses a BAE1073 to record his DIs but that affects your tone. Never understood why you would want to “color” the sound of your $3000 guitar.
The Radial boxes weren’t as accurate but were my first DI/Reamp boxes. Curious if the HDI is more accurate.

I get what you mean about coloring the sound of a $3k guitar, but consider the fact that some people will have a guitar/amp rig that could be easily $10k+, then run it through a neve or API. Certain preamps (or DI boxes, for that matter) just add that little something extra that you wouldn't otherwise get. As as long as you know what tone you are shooting for, "color" can have way more benefits than cons, and people will pay thousands just to have access to that color when they go into a particular studio. All just depends on the situation. Guitar DIs or keys/synths, I wouldn't color. Bass, drums and vocals could be a different story.
As far as the radial accuracy, I can't help with that, I was just trying to explain the thoughts behind why some people choose to color their sound in certain scenarios. Hope it sheds a little insight!
