As a big and long time McLaren fan, today was just... there's no excuse for it honestly. You can't blame Oscar or Lando for this one, this was 100% on the team for mismanaging the race.
IMO, the only way this should've played out today was McLaren bringing in Oscar first on the second round of stops, pitting Lando the lap after and letting them race to the end, that way they both get a fair shot for the win and if Lando is able to catch Oscar then fair play he takes the win.
Got to be the saddest and most bittersweet 1 - 2 finish in recent years, feel for both drivers as the team put them in an impossible situation today.

Can we just acknowledge that the 2024 season is something to be cherished - 7 different winners, Red Bull is emphatically not the fastest car at this stage, when not in Max's hands, they're 3rd best depending on the circuit. There are 3.5 competitive teams at the front (the .5 being split between Ferrari and Mercedes) - it may not be the title fight from 2021, but it is certainly something interesting to see/borderline similar to the 2009 season, where an early advantage won the season, but made 2010 a completely different story

What frustrated me is that as far as i can tell, swapping the cars literally only hurts Mclaren! Lando is in the running for the championship if Max faulters, with Oscar stuck in 5th place. And as far as the constructors championship is concerned, which car finishing ahead of the other is irrelevant... So from what i can gather, they did nothing of note besides costing Lando 6 points he might need by the end of the season for no other reason than making Oscar feel better.

But as the gap only got wider, I understand he'd be like "come on and earn it at least!" In the end, being in doubt about the right way to do for so long may have cost Lando the win, as it's possible he could have made a move if he'd slowed down after pitting. But who's going to slow down with Hamilton right behind you? Absolutely dreadful from McLaren and I feel like that should have been Lando's. I'd argue it was joint fault between McLaren & Lando - its bewildering why they felt the need to pit Lando first since even if Lewis undercut him, Lando would be on quicker tyres with a faster car and would have easily retook the place, but McLaren told Lando earlier on that they were free to race until the mid 40's (i.e. the 2nd round of pitstops), so the plan must have always been to hold station, and from immediately after the first ask Lando agreed he would let Oscar past once he closed the gap, almost as though it was pre-agreed that but then Lando was making it more difficult than it needed to be ... I hate people calling this "bittersweet" or anything like that.
As a McLaren fan, its not sweet. It's just flat out out poor and sour from McLaren.
They've ruined Lando's drive (clearly could've won that race on pace in the final stint, but bcs of mclarens strat, people will only see it as "he was ahead bcs of the stops" despite his significantly better pace in that final stint). He got given a chance to pass Oscar without losing time behind and absolutely smashed that opportunity out of the park. Once he got that lead he stepped into a grear Oscar couldnt. With bickering on the radio, emotional blackmail, vague threats and constant distracting on the radio, Lando still pulled over 4 seconds in 10 laps on Oscar despite having slightly older tyres. And that, has now gone completely unregistered and forgotten bcs of the contreversy.
And arguably (if not: definetively) even more importantly, Oscar's first win was ruined. Now there's a slight air of "well Oscar was gifted that win by a Lando who was flying into the distance" and all of a sudden there's no excitement to it. He won, but was he ACTUALLY going to win if McLaren didnt fuck around? Did McLaren intervening with Lando actually prevent a more likely result?
Obviously they should've pitted Oscar first, but if they had, Lando would've been on the slightly advantageous tyre at the end, and pushing the car to its best without bickering and distractions on the radio (which would only have improved his pace) and quite possibly ended up winning it?
Not to mention the gap Lando pulled in 10 laps after the pit stops was twice as large as the gap they entered the pits with.
    Everything just feels dulled now.
Lando quite possibly should've won that race now, bcs he got a slither of a chance to win and absolutely nailed it, and Oscar couldn't do anything to stop him. But Oscar's first 2 stints were probably some of his best tyre management stints he's ever put in, in F1. Its such a shame. Could've been simply: Lando and Oscar did great as a collective (regardless of who won).
But McLaren's strat has made it: Lando and Oscar did great, but now Lando deserves the win just as much as Oscar but Oscar doesnt deserve such a shitty first win.
It's ruined it honestly. I can't even describe it. As a McLaren fan, I'm ahamed. As a Lando fan I'm disappointed bcs my boy had the pace and the consistency. As a Oscar fan I'm devastated bcs the moment I've been waiting for, for 2 years, finally occurred and it just feels awkward and just unfulfilling.
Awful feeling to have. No matter which angle you look at it, you can't find any reason to be thrilled with that result.

Agreed, lando definitely had pace in the final stint but wether he'd have been able to pass Oscar or not is a different story as Hungary is quite a hard track to overtake on but that would have been a thrilling race either way as you would have had Oscar just cling on and hold on to the win which would make it feel earned or you would have lando take it with a few laps left where it would be seen as a good drive from both and lando would get the credit for his increase in pace. In both situations it is a good result for McLaren. Only good thing is that Oscar owes lando a favour so in future, lando can in theory regain those extra 7 points

Completely undeserved win by Oscar. And a bad team decision, because Lando is 2nd in the overall score. This was like a quadruple fail. They should have given Oscar the ideal pit strategy, and then gave Oscar the team order to let Lando pass for the championship. This was a disgrace!

"You can't win the championship on your own. You're gonna need oscar and you're gonna need the team"
The team just told Lando to throw away 7 easy points. How is that needing the team to win the championship?
Lando was faster on track, he got pole position, so it's not like he didn't earn this win as much as Oscar, if not more.
If this was near the end of the season and the championship was as good as gone, yeah, then I understand gifting Oscar this win, but now with half a season left still, Lando needs every point he can get to close the gap on Max.

Funny stat if Norris wins every race going forward for the season he will end up op 464 points and if max comes 2nd every race he will be on 463.. So lando wins hy one point which means it will be very difficult even if lando wins every race. And if Lando finishes 2nd every race it will be 387 and if max finishes 5th every race it will be 375 so gona be a tight one to win for Lando unless the redbull falls away. Just to note there is obviously still some sprint and fastest lap points that weren't included here
