So great seeing Asian guys getting the love and respect they deserve and seeing a culture that isn’t about white worship. Great video!
Awesome video!! I am an Asian married to a Colombian girl. Visited many times in the past and actually lived in Colombia for several months. I did not experience racism like I do in usa. But definitely among the elitismos will just treat anyone like trash unless you are white. The only racism I get in Colombia is from white foreigners, especially those from usa. But other than that, Colombians are well educated and cultured and the color of your skin does not matter.
In what way did you get the impression the white american tourists were being racist.
@@daebak7370 Americans have a horrible way of thinking the world should revolve around them. Too often do I hear American tourist getting upset because nobody speaks English to help them with direction or how to order. Also somehow think local laws don't apply to them. They sadly find out the US passport is not a get out of jail free card. I'm American myself, but I stay far away from Americans when I travel, and avoid their favorite hangout.
Me… a Caucasian male from 🇬🇧 wondering what it’s like to be Asian in Colombia 😂
This is a very valuable input. Your comments are very reassuring.
Thank you for watching.
Dude sounds like you have an incredible opportunity to start pretty much any type of business down there and make a killing by ways of authenticity. Also im glad that you are having a great experience with the colombians down in Manizales
Chinese restaurant is on the way my dude
This is very enlightenment my Asian brother. Thanks for the positive information.
This is an awesome channel - really solid editing, high quality, and super unique! Really awesome that you moved down to Colombia by yourself when you were 25 and it looks like it's been a great experience for you so far. Subbed!
cheers bro thank u
Love the insight bro. Glad to know your experience of Asians over there because I know it would definitely be a culture shock for both parties. Dope setup btw!
thanks bro
I’m an Asian guy going to Medellin in September. Pretty cool video. Was curious how people would perceive me there, especially after the pandemic. Thanks my guy 🙏🏼
no problem bro
I love ur honesty man and path to spirituality! Also great lofi beat on the background, Keep up the great work.
Very solid points about just being a man and masculine / bringing value and being charismatic is all that matters , race should never hold you back
cheers bro thanks for watching
No wonder my Vietnamese friend is always going to Brazil. He’ll come back and show me all the girls he’s met and most of them are 1-2 levels above him. Lol.
Lol that's messed up
@@daebak7370 messed up? He's living his best life.
Brazil is similar we have the largest japanese population outisde japan. So we don't have asian hate and others negative stereotypes like US.
In Colombia they call me Alpha-Chino. 😎
vids like this is such a breath of fresh air! specially after all the anti Asian hate vids & representation BLA BLA BLA! we need more of THIS! mucho gracias💚❤️💯🌈
Thanks broski, good to see a fellow asian brother be successful in Columbia! Those females in that country are beautiful.👌
We out here bro, they really are.
Keep getting it brother!
There is beauty in diversity. Nature and God blessed us with diversity so that we do not get bored of each other. It is nice to see you that you are being a good ambassador for Asian people.
thanks bro
Am from Cali colombia living in the us since I was five years old so I found your channel and I already like it and subscribed .. love that you speak about colombia the truth that like in all countries there’s bad there’s good etc .. we hope to relocate back to colombia in the near future nyc is getting to be too much for us .. hope to visit china one day am mesmerized by your culture and I was searching about china and their culture and how china perceives Colombian culture and their influence in colombia and in all Latin America and I found you ..this channel so far is awesome … my wife also loves it thanks ! Much blessings
Facts my Asian homie was out here for a month and all the girls was on him.
Are you latino?
Bro, I feel you in every way. I went to Colombia in 2015 and had plans doing a South American tour.
Ended up being in Colombia for seven months when I met my now present beautiful wife.
I knocked her up, hence the drastic change of plans.
Prior to that, I met people who would stare at me in different ways.
Some males would look at me with dismay, whereas the girls would look at me with interest.
In general, the Colombian people are nice, but they don't seem to respect your relationship with one of their own.
After being exclusive to my paisita, guys would look at me with more aversion than before and girls more keen to be femme fatale.
I have many stories to tell when I started dating my wife. Girls and boys would try to hit on her in Medellín and Cartagena. I thought that was only a Colombian thing where them thirsty boys and girls would not let my woman be, but it turned out that my wife's beauty is universally acknowledged.
Love this breakdown man
Muy buena apreciacion de la vida en colombia y latinoamerica para un extranjero provenga de donde provenga. Mucha suerte se la merece
Hey Wes,
Checked out a couple your videos and you seem like a pretty genuine guy that I can resonate with on your dating /relationship topics, especially since we're both Chinese, with Christian background and from North America.
I'm from Canada myself, anyway don't wanna beat around the bush..
Actually am in Bogota atm and was already planning to check out Manizales before your videos but you definitely had convinced me man.
I can see you are an entrepreneur like myself as I work from home and am a consultant working with a therapist to help men level up in dating and nofap.
Love to grab a coffee or beer with you when I land my Asian brotha.
Let me know if you're down!
hey bro, come through and stop by the restaurant to say what's up!
Why do foreigners always assume Colombia is free of racism? I’m afro Colombian and I was born in Quibdo. The difference is South America never had a system set in place such as Jim Crow and Apartheid. Racism definitely exists in Colombia, but I’m not going to get into all the specifics. As far as Asians in South America Brazil has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan. Peru also has a sizable Asian population. Many youtubers of different races primarily black and white solely discuss sex tourism in Colombia. But, unfortunately prostitution is legal and it’s actually a government problem for not doing to fight poverty.
I'm sure it exists but I'm just sharing what my black Colombian friends have told me. 80% have said that racism isn't really a thing, but I'm not gonna deny your opinion you probably know better than me
@@WheresWes The same can be stated in the U.S. They’re black Americans that claim racism isn’t a factor in America. I’m not trying to troll or disrupt your positive attitude of Colombia. But, the evidence of racism speaks for itself in Colombia. Many black Colombians overwhelmingly live in poverty, and most still live segregated on the coast.
HI jay, nice explanation. whats your instagrama if I may ask ?
@@jaylove7391 Blacks in Colombia do not represent a large percentage or number as it happens in the USA! Although Afro-descendant music has been representative in Colombia, the population is not. You could see that seeing blacks in most of Colombia outside the coasts is rare, almost like seeing Asians Colombians
@@jaylove7391 Colombia retains some racism in that if you look very native or Afro you are less likely to get something big, but not in terms of hurting yourself as it happens in the USA!
Congratulations on your journey 👏 ✨ and thank you for your content 🥰🥰
i just came from medellin, and the stares are of the charts. im white(european genetics) but from another Spanish speaking latino country . everywhere i was being stared at and if i went on a tinder date forget about it.
I'm fluent spanish speaker/grew up in US so i know both and knowing Spanish def helped me become friends with an uber driver and have an all around positive experience besides the staring. also in my 20s, not an old guy
Wes, are you able to comment on the Asian North American women’s experience in Columbia? BTW Really appreciate the Asian North American perspective on digital/nomad experience as a place that works well for the predominantly white digital nomad demographics may not be as hospital to people of other ethnicities… as some of your other commentators have thoughtfully analyzed already.
I know how it feels. The first time I visited China (in 1992) I was receiving stares constantly; the kids would even point at me.
Great Video! Although my OCD was screaming because of the sloppy cut acoustic foam
welcome to Colombia lmao
Hey bro, I'm in Medellin, landed yesterday. I was hoping you could maybe give me a quick update on protests in Manizales? I wanna go check out the zona cafetera, but a housemate said it probably isn't a good time. I mean now isn't a good time for Colombia either, but here I am. Haha
yeah sure. honestly it's pretty calm. some random protests pop up here and there but they aren't violent anymore. the worst of it is over
@@WheresWes Awesome thank you so much bro. 👌
Great video Wes !
thanks G
Need 1gig download speeds for my line of work otherwise, would move down south!
In Barranquilla there is more chinese people, I listened that, because I live in Villavicencio, here we have a chinese restaurant, they cook really good, my mom tell me that in the past, there was chinese people there, so they taught to the new people and chefs.
I'm korean grew up in south America so I speak Spanish. I do pretty ok in the states dating wise. Sometimes I get comments ppl say I look like a kpop singer. Would I be popular with the girls in colombia with this look?
Nicr dude I'm asian living in peru and i get chino called all the time. Always take that as a complement
Yeah same, it's all love.
Hey brother saludos I’m interested in living in Colombia say within the next 6 months pref Medellin o Bogota. I’m from Hawaii originally I am fluent in Spanish and I would love to connect with you about things Colombia and experiences you have as a Asian male .My curiosity is the employment sector and what challenges one coming from the USA will be thanks
Dope. I'm about to land in Medellin tomorrow morning. 👌 Definitely want to check out Manizales in the future, but going to check out Medellin first.
Cheers bro, lmk if you roll through. u one of the OGs
Dont take the "chino" too personally. Im from venezuela, and we do the same thing. I have a friend of mine who is 100% venezuelan, he looks kinda asian because he is native Venezuelan and we call him "Chino" just because his eyes look like chinese people. Its very common to have a nickname based on what you look like.
For example im pretty dark, im also 100% venezuelan ... and my family calls me "Negra" or "Negrita" (Blackie) ... but that is because well, i am dark. Its just what i look like is not big deal... but in the US people get mad over everything, you tell a black person they look black, or a chinese person they look chinese and you get slapped 😂
Wes, don’t you identify more as an American than as a Chinese?? I’m surprised that you said “you don’t act like a typical Asian.” What does that even mean? What does a “typical Asian” act like? You seem to dispel the stereotype for yourself, while perpetuating it by throwing “typical Asians” under the bus. What do you think?
And also do Latinos, and Colombians, understand the concept of Asian Americans??
@@jamesp7588 no..
Yes, he did it but it is understandable. Due to emigration polices of EEUU, recent waves of Asian immigrants tend to be professionals or college students and to be college bound in the previous generation, you got to be pretty nerd. Most Asians in Asia do not go to university 30 years ago. It reminds me of my son when I took him to Malaysia. He played soccer with the kids there and his comment was that Indians in Malaysia are so athletic. That is something you do not see in the US because US emigration policies favors Indians who are computer programmers. Children of American East Indians are often stereotyped as smart, spelling bee winners. Malaysia on the other hand had Indians who came to work in the rubber plantation as replacement for African slaves because by the 19th century, slavery had been outlawed so the British relied on Indians to work in the rubber plantations and the Chinese to work in the mines. the result is their social class is more lower and the children need to be really physical to do the work. I still remember when I was in high school, the fastest kid in my class in cross country was an Indian and he ran the entire race barefoot every single time. He never gets tired. I doubt I would find an Indian kid in the USA who can complete his cross country barefoot.
In Muhammad Alis documentary of When we were Kings, Ali was surprised (in his usual sarcasm) that there exist black doctors in Africa because he has never seen a black doctor in USA. And it is my experience as well. I too have never been treated by a Black doctor in the USA. I may be in for a shock when I visit Africa and need medical care.
Yeah I do identify as more American, but most of my Asian friends back at home are first generation and still have a lot of the typical Asian stereotypes. Passive, bad at socializing, good at school, bad with women, obsessed with video games, bad at dressing, etc. You and I know a bunch of Asians like this, and you know exactly what I'm talking about.
I didn't throw anybody under the bus, just stating some truths about our culture that we need to change.
Asians, regardless if you're from the motherland or the West, are all seen as Asian here. More specifically Chino lol.
lol
Hola wes!
Very informative video👍, I'm curious ,how about being asian male in Venezuela?
That is my experience as well. There are a few South American countries where asian guys certainly have it easier dating than in the States. Chinese food in Mexico and most of South America is a joke.
How can you speak and eat at the same time so fluently?
if you have money, you good to go anywhere in the world
I want to visit this country next year, but I'm worried about safety issues... That's my only concern right now. Do you have some tips on how to travel safely in Columbia?
A year and a half goes by fast
Don’t know if I missed it from another video but how are you able to stay in Colombia for so long?
the pandemic and other reasons, shoot me a message on ig it's a long story
Wes, I want to ask you a question personally, how do I get to talk to you. I don’t mind calling you on WhatsApp, please I watch your video a lot, I want to talk to you.🙏🙏🙏
Cheers bro. Shoot me a message on IG or an email so we can set up a consultation.

Bro, I just emailed you, so please check your email whenever you get the chance.
Great video! Do you know how brown Asian would be treated there? As I've had people mistaken me for a Latino even tho I'm Indonesian lmao.
can you put the food down for the video
how do locals feel toward lgbt, Medellin? I've read Cartagena is the place for to be for lgbt, not so much in other cities. any insight will help, thanks.
very accepted in Medellin but not so much in Manizales where I live now.
hey bro. im looking to perhaps visiting that area. would like to discuss more in detail. if you down to dm.
sure man shoot me a message on IG
Hey I live in America
Is it safe to travel there as a gay Asian guy, I mean not to hide your sexuality. I'm from Thailand and I was just checking Latin America vlogs and yours got recommended. I've always wanted to backpack the American countries like Brazil USA Colombia Mexico Argentina. Your channel inspired me to be brave 👍
in Medellin it's a lot more accepted. tho tbh in the smaller cities it's still frowned upon
@@WheresWes thank you 👍
Quite acceptable, the country has been the winner of the best lgbt destination in South America for 3 consecutive years! Marriage and adoption is legal throughout the country. Colombia has one of the most advanced societies in the world on this subject, I would include Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Mexico is not so much
Just curious how it is gonna be, me as an Asian trump supporter in Colombia 😂
No one cares about the politics tbh, and I imagine you're more conservative so pretty good
What visa do you have?
well just chat with people... you are a hot guy .....don't worry... the women will go to you...
What visa are you on?
tourist visa
You can stay past 6 months ?
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I thought you were korean too lol
