As a guy who grew up with Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, this takes me back and I love every moment and reference. From the instruments to the musical references, it was all a blast to the past.
I think this is a fight that doesn’t deserve a death, if Banjo and Kazooie win have them crush K Rool under a rock again. If K Rool wins, have him shoot them out of a canon into the unknown.

It's great to finally hear Banjo and Kazooie in one of these commisioned tracks, underrated N64 game imo, and I hope the franchise comes back one day, especially after Smash Ultimate.
Quite the interesting matchup. You'd expect to see this in an actual crossover game more so than a VS track. But I'm not complaining as long as the track is nice. And that it is. It's relatively simple in concept and practice but it manages to do everything it strives to do really well. Which is a nicely fitting thing given the characters involved: not revolutionary in any way but it reuses common themes in a way good enough to make it stand out. Notably its simple yet effective progression from a joyful and simple retro-feeling track that slowly evolves into a much more epic and modern track to evoke a rising scale while still keeping this fittingly joyful theme is great. That and the general use of reference tracks which is omnipresent in this song but still doesn't feel like it relies too much on them. Sure most of the track is using motifs from existing songs but it uses them in a way that feels fitting and original to make it stand out on its own. Again, it really makes this whole thing feel like a crossover song in a Banjo Kazooie game where you'd fight K. Rool and I'm all for it. And even beyond the thematical fittingness of the track, it just sounds really freaking good. Again due to the crescendo of scale it slowly goes through it feels like a fluid rise of intensity with even a pretty cool dynamic at times where the more joyful motif gets replaced by a more intense pirate-like motif (IE: around 2:12) to showcase moments where K. Rool would have the advantage. But most notable is of course the ending starting at 3:01 which truly stands out again in its simplicity: it's preexisting motifs but taken to a new level with a very epic and intense ending that truly makes the song excel in quality while still fitting. Overall this track is as simple as it gets on paper but it's exactly that simplicity that makes it stand out: it feels like a crossover track for a video game and it doesn't shy away from that in the slightest. Not only does it sound cool but it does so while fitting and standing out while feeling at home in either franchise's OSTs were it to be compared to them. Amazing work with this as always.
THIS WORKS SO WELL!!!! I LIKE IT! Loved How it incorporated the themes of Both DKC & Banjo Kazooie So well its like if DK Had a Crossover Story with Banjo Kazooie that never came to fruition and it sounds so beautiful
This… definitely wasn’t an MU I was expecting. This reminds me of my days when I used to pit two Smash Bros Characters against each other… Actually isn’t that what Smash Bracket does now?! Welp, Therewolf is definitely gonna produce, that’s for sure
@@omegaotaku1342 I agree that the track slaps and that K. Rool as a Banjo final boss fight would be epic, but I still think K. Rool vs Grunty is more of a thematic matchup as something like a Death Battle: both are the rotund final bosses of Rare's masterpiece platformers, both have a flair for the dramatic and mountains literally carved in their image, and both have games' worth of tech and magic abilities to throw at each other (including island-scaled lasers). As for a Banjo matchup, how could I look past Banjo-Kazooie vs. Yooka-Laylee? This track goes way harder than it has any right to! Good work, Aaron! I'm pretty sure K. Rool actually win this. A couple of games say he's just as strong as DK, if not stronger. Considering DKs moon punch feat out classes almost anything in Banjo-Kazooie, and the fact that the bear and bird have more limited ammo, the outcome seems as clear as the Crystal Coconut.
This would just play like a really fun boss battle. xD In an egregious battle to the death, Banjo was part of an era just before they got a bad fur day. This means Banjo won't hold back. And since K. Rool is designed not to hold back in this scenario either, they'd be on "equal footing". Causing this to still stick to the advantage of a boss battle. A rather roguh one. Where there's a second phase, just to try to trick the bear and bird into thinking the battle's done. But as video game players do, the boss likely will be defeated and the credits roll.
As a k rool and Banjo main in smash, I approve of this mashup. It could be k rool and banjo teaming up against duck hunt duo and king ddd for dressing as them (duck hunt dressing as banjo and kind ddd dressing as k rool)
