A tribute in the light of the 131st birthday of Theodore von Karman, Hungarian aerospace engineer of the Guggenheim aeronautical laboratory, and exceptional protege of the legacy that was Prandtl.

Knew him very well. Used to visit him at his home on Marengo in Pasadena and he would visit us on Christmas Eve. My mom did most of the translation for Lee Edson’s book.

Very interesting..read his biography ("The Wind And Beyond")-he as appointed to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences by Pope Pius IX. Great man and a great American. His mathematical treatment of turbulence is unsurpassed.

Hello Gene Kelly - I am just now, belatedly, reading "The Wind and Beyond" as it was co-written with my uncle, Lee Edson. Another connection has brought Lee's work to my attention, so I am finally reading all of his books, after all these years. Lee and I shared a love all things in the physical sciences; he studied physics with Feynman et al before turning to science journalism, and I am a geologist. How the circle turns...
