    Great episode guys... hopefully someone from Mr. Li's team joins you guys in the coming episode...and thanks for featuring my comment -
    There are a lot of discussion about the Shopee Cup -
    Just to add on, let's offer the competition the support it requires at this moment, and it may evolve into a prestigious event over time. As it gains momentum, we can anticipate increased interest from teams, possibly even leading to a turnaround for JDT in the future. Without intending any offence to other Southeast Asian nations and their supporters, a Singapore-based, well-funded competition holds significant weight, particularly in terms of prize money, and we are well-positioned to spearhead such an initiative. 😀😀😀

    The tiger cup was a preseason tournament with a meaningless trophy, yet there were many fans present. Just because its a preseason tournament doesn’t mean its “lesser”. For the fans having more opportunities to watch their team play, regardless of preseason or not, is a big joy

    I absolutely agree with humphreys, he understands football. What fuels fan interest is the rivalry and competitive level. Tbh, there's still a gulf in quality between SEA and east asian/gulf teams (with the exception of JDT and buriram, BG pathum) and it's demoralising to watch as a fan. The shoppee cup would generate the same interests as the suzuki cup on a constant basis. I remember the national stadium was only full when our national team makes it to the semi finals

    Great show again guys.
    I absolutely agree with Niel’s comment regarding OTH being closed. Let’s face the facts, half of Jalan Besar, Bishan and Jurong is empty because they don’t actually act as a conduit for the non-SG football passionate fans to be exposed to the local game. Many times I have seen both fans and non-fans watching from the balconies and within the shopping centre of OTH for a free match or as passer-by ‘spectators’, which is great because it creates a lot more exposure compared to a Jalan Besar where you only go to the stadium to watch a particular match.
    I’m so interested in what will happen to Albirex this season. As an LCS fan, I hope they crash and burn with the title race being between the Sailors and Tampines, however I have massive respect for what they have managed to do all this time long as a satellite club who aren’t endowed with the ability to buy a Max, Diego or Boris.
    As a side-note: I loved your commentary on the women’s game. I’ve always wanted to see you guys to collaborate with Ash Hashim, especially on the WPL because it is a country mile behind the SPL which is distributing

    Singapore just lacks pitches for every footballer's needs:
    Honestly, I embrace the SWPL's move to include matches at ITE East. It's a brilliant decision that taps into an underutilised resource: the playing fields available at some educational institutes.The facilities at tertiary level schools, including JCs and ITEs, often surpass those of some current stadiums. Allocating each team a school as their home stadium could effectively address the facility challenges faced by SWPL teams, such as inadequate changing rooms. Moreover, these schools are equipped to accommodate fans, even though their numbers may currently be smaller compared to men's games. Providing SWPL teams with a dedicated home ground not only fosters a sense of belonging but also encourages community engagement and collaboration with the allocated schools. Unless there are undisclosed reasons preventing it, I fail to comprehend why this hasn't become a reality yet. 😀😀😀

    I think the reason why JDT are not inside because they have AFC Champions League Elite which consists of 8 matchdays playing against 8 different teams. Plus recently they are having the preseason in Spain
    Not to also mention they are on a 40% reduction in budget

    Shopee Cup is the Asean version of the Conference League Trophy
    With no added incentive for the supposed winner of the shopee cup and e-vouchers now (i.e Qualifications for AFC Cup), let's see what name will it be changed to in the next edition
    Old Chang Kee Cup
    Liho Bubble Tea Cup

    From a maintenance point of view. I assume artificial pitches are condemned and even so, artificial pitches needs high maintenance, for brushing and replacing of infills etc. Natural football pitches are hard to maintain as it is literally living plants being trampled on with twists and turns and digs. In addition to diseases and weeds in our tropical climate.
    The only solution is to allow pitches to rest and play sparingly, allowing the grass to grow and recover, like play for 2-4 hours a day or less. Adding in times where you cannot play after rain (which is quite often), there is very little time usable to justify the significant investment. Pitch rotation is not possible too for obvious reasons.
    Also, I dare to say the cost of maintaining a pitch is much higher than any surface per square meter, and to add, it cannot be used by the community, unlike say table tennis tables, badminton halls or swimming pools (you can see the trend here). Yes, totally agree it is a priority issue. Thus, it has to be one of the highest national priorities if it is to happen. Our national stadium pitch during big matches seems quite good. :)

    I think JDT not being in this competition is because FAM views this as the next tier of continental competition. Which is why when AFF first asked FAM to nominate teams, they put in the names of the teams in the third and fourth place of the Super League, Sabah and Kedah respectively. This is what most European leagues do when the winner of the Cup has already qualified for a European place, they just give it to the next best team in the league. But AFF wants “champions” so they settled for the next best thing, the runner ups for the two domestic cups that JDT won, Terengganu and KL City FC.
    I think this is the best way to view this competition, as a competition for the next tier of clubs to strive for, not as a competition for teams that are basically guaranteed ACL spots each year. It’ll be a little bit of a loss from a marketing perspective, but hopefully be good decision in the long run.

      Nope, FAM doesn't have power over JDT in terms of what international competition they want to enter. It's more because the Shopee Cup might or will clashes with ACLE matches.

    • @ShahirARazak-ui8uz
      @ShahirARazak-ui8uz 7 місяців тому

      @@MASViper But wasn’t the team choice up to FAM and not JDT? Publicly, AFF contacted only FAM and not any single clubs. AFF contacted FAM and asked them to nominate 2 teams to the tournament, first Sabah and Kedah, then Terengganu and KL City. Was there any statements from firsthand sources regarding JDT’s rejection?

    • @MASViper
      @MASViper 7 місяців тому

      @@ShahirARazak-ui8uz Yeah, and FAM will contact every team to see which one will join. FAM can't just said "Hey JDT, join the Shopee Cup or play at M3 this year". Imagined the scale of the storm later.

    • @MASViper
      @MASViper 7 місяців тому

      @@ShahirARazak-ui8uz As for the source, I did read it on FB, but it's one of those "I read it without much care about it". Ultimately, FAM, and any national football association in that matter, can't forces clubs to do anything that's not in the rules and regulations that set up by the said national football association or FIFA. That's why JDT can choose not to send their players to any tournament or friendlies that is not in the FIFA calendar.

    Kinda feel the shopee cup should be viewed and regarded as a 3rd/4th tier competition after the ACL elite, ACL 2 and AFC Challenge League. maybe only for clubs that has not yet qualified for any of the above tournaments. think malaysia are the only ones approaching this shopee cup in that way.

    • @mdilham5237

      Other clubs in Malaysia beside JDT shouldn't be talking about it... just treat this comp. as a 2nd/3rd tier priority for them...

      I agree with you. At least the clubs not in the ACL and AFC tournaments get competitive match times.

    If it wants to be a credible tournament, the name must change. Shopee Cup is plain silly
    And FAS must slim the SPL fixtures to put this many ASEAN and Asian tournaments into the calendar.

      The issue is AFC
      They have a minimum of 28 games to be able to play for AFC

    As much as I want to support women football, it's not exciting enough and the standard is far too low.
