I had an idea for a similar design that used plywood sheets! This is much better as far as weight and climate control. Nice to see someone actually build what I only had a passing thought about.

Zip ties may hold it longer then Velcro extra flaps inside to seal out the bugs cold or heat.. Just thinking of less tape as it rots over time..I absolutely love this tipi design very inventive... They should be mass produced with your patent on this.. AWESOME!! Thank you for sharing what coraplast can do.

all the stuff you do with shelters they're so well thought-out. some of the shelters I think they could even be heated safely they would make such a good homeless shelter. light compatible movable cheap fairly tough some environment more than others. I really think somebody could change some people's life well done. this is for sure my favorite UA-cam vids. thanks can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Outta all of the shelters I've seen yours is by far one of the best ideas when it comes to repurposing construction materials . The only thing I can see that might be a problem would be the duct tape possibly peeling off , say if you had to use it for a month in foul weather / rain , and the air filter , that's a terrific idea but there again I would think after one good rain that filter would be history . But I'll tell you what , if I did find myself in need of a quick emergency shelter , I'd pick yours . Thanks for sharing your ideas .

I have watched you build different designs from the moment I started watching youtube about 2 years ago now, and every single one of your builds and designs are amazing, do not stop!!! I'm sure if you are interested in helping humanity you could let your blueprints out for free or your measurements or you could even charge a few dollars for each sale in order to supplement your income to allow you to be able to continue designing these awesome things or make kits and sell the things for twice the cost plus oh ten dollars an hour for your time and you'd be making something out of it to continue and people with little money could still afford them...This is so cool. I thinks I'm going to build my nephews some of these particular ones!!

Paul, the only thing that could possibly be done to improve this one would be to add some flanges to the top, so anchoring ropes/cables could be used if someone wanted/needed to use one of these shelters on a long-term basis.
But, a great design, none the less.

Hey Kevin. To secure the structure I drilled a hole in each corner of the roof and ran lines from their to spikes in the ground. Worked great. A floor and window flanges would be needed for all weather use, and a coat of rubber membrane paint on the triangle roof. Maybe the whole thing? I might experiment some day.

+Paul Elkins Hello from Québec, Canada, excuse my bad english, i am french Canadian. You are making good opportunity for the homeless but no one on 85 comments is ready to have it on their land and give some hope to an homeless person. Is it illegal in USA to be a bit more human? Some person say: It will be great for my kids. Why not teaching them to be generous by having an homeless person who won't be bothered and secure on your land? That cost nothing and, may be, he can use your facilities??? 2 things are going together, heartless and homeless. No hearless mean No homeless. 3.5 millions homeless in USA, is it possible??? I simply can't see why. People enjoy their little life in their house with plenty of space on their land, basement, extra room, etc. One day they become homeless and they ask theirselves why?? LIFE always find a way to make you understand what you don't want to know. People are saying: Cop are brutal against the homeless, ok may be yes, but what people are doing to avoid that kind of situation???? Do you need my example to do something? Are you able to do some thing logic by yourself?? I am talking to people in general, not you Paul, i know you are a man with big heart and a head too. Paul, all your ideas are very good and can be useful if someone decide to share a little part of his land with an homeless. But, for now, no one have said a single word about their human senses and desire to REALLY help an homeless or helping you on a project. It is always the same thing: I want this and I want that, could you give me this or that. No one is offering something, they just ask and ask and ask again. LIFE, please tell me who isw the real beggar? someone in need or someone who can give but, will only ask and beg to simply have more and more and always for free. Please, tell me Paul, is there someone who had asked to buy your plan?? with the idea to build one on his land for an homeless person?? I know, that Cop can't be on your property without a warrant, that mean your homeless will be in security. I will never believe that no one have an empty space of 6x10 feet, on their land. To all readers: Think about it: if an homeless is beaten on the street, is it your fault?? If you can prevent it and you do nothing, is it your fault? For sure, you gone have a thousand good reasons to say, i can't do that. Why don't you try to find a single good reason to do it, instead of blaming the community. In a way, Paul is giving you many ways to help, almost for free and be proud to help a human in need. I see a lot of bad comments coming, and the first one will be: If you are so smart, what are you doing for the homeless? Answer is: I am doing my best with what i have, like building some tiny house in a small village ( project for this summer, now it is minus 39 celcius in Québec). Who gone build each tiny house with me? answer: The homeless, they are not useless and without skill, they are only without money and help. Ok Ok, there is also all the bad one who make you feel good when you do nothing for the good one. So, finally, do you have some place on your land, now??? Do you have some place in your heart??? LIFE is blessing you for what?? Do you deserve it?? Really?? Proove it by sharing. Even misery is less painful when we share it.

+harry coleman Well Harry,, your English is not the best, but it didn't stop you from saying a lot of smarter things than people very fluent in English say. Thanks for writing what you did. Some hopeless people can't be saved, but a lot of them can. The ones that can be just need a hand up, They are then likely to be very grateful, & will want to help you help others. I know because I have taken in homeless people before (w/ caution of course), & seen it. And I am hoping to do it on a much larger scale as soon as we can purchase our own land. I have even seen cats never forget that I rescued them. Again, thanks for writing what you did. People need to be made to think instead of being so shallow.

Clever design. Would be good for people to make for the homeless like you suggest. Just doesn’t seem that our governments care that much for people without a home. But this would be great if somebody wanted to help a few people out during the cold weather. You could always scale it up or down to make it cheaper / more cost effective.

The most cost-effective solution for homelessness is to nationalize all currently private housing, so parasitic landlords can no longer hoard it while the poor freeze on the streets.

I was NOT happy. I should never have bought a Ford FU150 truck that had sat for a year. After cutting myself, I should have stopped and taken care if the wound but, we overcame all obsticles and had a good time anyway. My brother is fine and, although the base of the tree was 12" in diameter, the roof sustained no harm. Only the flue was damaged. No biggy.

Dude you are the bomb! I had/have been facing homelessness a few times now, good landlord's are hard to find when work gets scarce. But I'm getting by for now. Which has me thinking that while i have a few bucks I want to scare -proof life. So, I was watching your other video on the bicycle caravan thing and thought I would go one more.
I mobile/camper home that has two sections. The cabin living section that can be towed and left in situ and the power assisted trike/velo' that pulls it. It's all weight to ratio thing. I can power from batteries and solar as well as hook up and a dynamo that builds power from travel to separate reserve batteries. A rear double (bicycle wheel) base and the cabin have 6 wheels - another double rear wheel base. (27.7 wheels from mtbs ). I will put it up as I do it on my site. First off a load of hours working to earn the cash to pay for the parts and welder, heat gun, etc...etc. So one day a boss says sorry Mark no work and the landlord says no money no roof, I hitch up and go! Work where I can get paid by account to my bank all mail by email. Then buy land to build an Earth-ship! ( A semi- subterranean home would be very cool - into an old quarry wall would be best, the hole filled with water and fish). I am getting some great ideas for life off grid.

Hey Paul - I really like your idea a lot! Well done sir!
I'm involved with the socially underprivileged/homeless and although I could try and replicate the basics of your design, I wondered if you would be willing to share the plans and/or dimensions for the six triangular 'end' cuts on the cabin structure? Please PM me if we can discuss?
I'm in the UK and something like this would be infinitely better than a tent, as the Cabins thermal-foam construction is undoubtedly able to keep occupants a lot warmer, even without heating. It looks relatively lightweight - and could easily be erected on site for the occupant, or transported on a cart/trolley for the occupant to build themselves.
I've just noticed another of your videos in the side-bar showing the use of Coroplastic or 'Corex' type corrugated material - this was the primary material I first considered because it is very light and relatively easy to assemble but without extra internal thermal insulation, corrugated plastic wouldn't be much more of a thermal barrier than being in a tent.
I'm aware of the upload date of the video!

It's smaller at 4 sheets, but we really like it. It's made of 1-1/2" thick foam board.

    Hey,
Very impressed with your concept that could be used for homeless shelters.
I support the homeless in the Raleigh NC area and noticed that their tart and old tents do not provide protection from the weather here.
I want to build the shelter for them and later if it works talk to my church men's group about making building shelters a project.
I have watched tour you tube many times and thing I can figure out your lay out for the shelter. It would save time and materials if you where willing to share the plan lay out with me. The tapping pattern is another aspect of construction I would be interested in for construction.
We have a lot of rain here, not like the desert, so will need to build the shelter as water resistant as possible.
If their is a way I can contact you please advise.
    Thanks
    Mark

Enough protection that would keep a person out of the wind and weather?

Happy Thanksgiving Paul & Co. Took a minute or two to realize what I have to be thankful for. The list THIS year is quite different from years gone by. I like to think that the most important things in life are kindness, love and friendship....getting closer to our maker and living life with a determination to succeed at: kindness, love and friendship and getting God "in" on our journey....because without all of the above, it doesn't matter what you have or acquired or built. Make it a great day!

Paul, if you still read these, have you considered using a plastic welder in joining the Coroplast sheeting?

Kewl!!!!! Also a answer to some homeless "maybe". Another guy built some small wooden shelter/homes for homeless...,ooked nice! BUT city took them and took to landfill due to jealous neighbors saying they were an eyesore. Sad thing as I can't keep my utilities paid right now and it is a scary feeling with not a lot of help I know of and I am only about 4-500 dollars behind. Might as well be thousands at this point. Disabeled and can't work.
