      For every 10 thieves there are actors (like Sebastian Stan aka "Bucky Barnes" aka "Winter Soldier"), chess players (like Botez sisters), musicians (i guess O-zone? might be one of the more known globally) and other such more positive celebs. And i bet that most sensible people know that scammers and thieves don't represent whole country.

    25 years ago, I encountered Angry Grandpa (I'm 95% sure it was him) in the Prague metro. He claimed to be a plain-clothes inspector of the public transportation, showed me a silly charm trinket in the cup of his hand as if that was somehow legitimizing him, and he claimed that I had bought the wrong ticket and that I needed to pay a fine and buy a different ticket. Little did he know that I wasn't just the passing through backpacker, but I was on my 30th trip to Prague, so I told him in Czech to crawl back to the piča he came from, and that I knew very well which ticket I needed and that I wasn't going to show him my ticket, nor where I keep my money. He got very upset and abusive (I guess I lead him on, but I was right and he wasn't hahaha). When I got off, I informed the DPP office and they said I did the right thing sending him away.

Your videos really do justice to your city, with all the travel tips and hidden gems that you recommend! As for the scammers, it's such a pity that most major European counties don't do enough to fight this type of crime. It's the same story here in Athens, people will scam you/rob you, they will get arrested and then be released later the same day. This "guide" was really fun to watch and it shows how much effort you put for Prague's good. Take care and be carefully around all these people. Wish you all a happy new year!

    • @hbsavage0387

      It makes sense when you think about probability. 98% of tourists do as you exactly say and ignore these scum of the Earth. The thing is the scammers know this and they aren’t worried about the 98% they are after that 2% that are either dumb enough, gullible enough, or just not informed enough to fall for it. Here in the US our park rangers have a saying that kinda rings true for why scammers actually get people “the overlap between the dumbest human and the smartest bear is far more than you would think” this is said when asked why they can’t make bear proof things. Because if they did the dumbest people couldn’t get into it either. So because of a very small percentage of not so bright people the rest of society is stuck with this chronic issue.

    • @thomasmore260

      It was a very common practice in Eastern Europe during cold war. When you were changing officially you got a gouvernment rate while you got a market rate from people on the street who desperately needed valuta for stuff they couldn't buy officially. So depending on time and country you got likely twice to ten times as much.
      Everyday products like bread were heavily subsidized and government rates were based on those.

    • @olenacactus3651
      @olenacactus3651 8 днів тому

      It also can be hard for some people to say no to those crooks. Usually those scammers don’t let you go so easy after hearing no. Mb people subconsciously feel some threat and it’s easier to agree for exchange like that than be followed by them or beaten up.

    Greetings the Honest Guides of Prague. Congrats on an awesome scammers montage video. As I’ve been watching it’s brighten the end of this year for me as well as sent a good cheer for the start of a new one. It’s actually a great fun to view all the footage you shot over some years compiled into one video about all the chases and hustle and bustle with them cheats and riff-raff money grifters who operate in the streets of Prague. The video made me chuckle more than once, I must admit. Kudos and salutations on a job well done. My favourite episode with scammers was the one in which you confronted the Polish Guy at the train station where he was swindling some tourists. When he was caught he got so wound up and all bent out of shape that he started to swear both in Polish and Czech with his spittle flying from his mouth in and between profanities he was firing at you so profusely. Now it turns out he is suing you for harassing him as he was waiting for a train. The audacity of him and talking about turning the tables on you - comedy gold continues. By the way, Happy New Year to Janek & Honza - have a good one.

    As a Romanian, I feel deeply ashamed of my own country. These individuals are living in lavish houses or villas acquired through scamming.. The prevalence of such behavior is alarming, and it tarnishes the reputation of our nation! Instead of facing consequences for their actions, these individuals often seek refuge in other countries known for their peaceful environments, such as the Czech, Canada, etc.. This highlights the failure of our system to such fraudulent activities.Personally,

    Reminded me of the one time when I was scammed.
    Frankly I can’t remember whether it was in Prague or Krakow. It were not people in the streets. It was an exchange place. They gave me less than expected. When I told them they owe me more, they explained that the rest is commission. And then they refused to cancel the operation. Luckily it wasn’t fake money, I was just ripped off, paying a 10% commission
