I’m really pleased Breguet isn’t as popular as VC, PP etc as people like us can get hold of them to enjoy (and for 50% off the retail price, if purchasing second hand!). That said, I can’t see that lasting forever - the quality of the watches they make is truly exceptional and there are too many watch connoisseurs in the world for the brand to be ignored in the coming years.

The Nautilus is a hideous watch as far as I’m concerned. The Royal Oak is OK. I’m not a fan of such bracelets at all. I would take Breguet all day long for its contributions to Haute Horlogerie, its look world-class artisanal fit finish, and its heritage. In spite of all that, and since you mentioned VC, at this price level, I would go with VC if it’s my first watch of that caliber. But I’m very biased to VC and JLC. Especially VC. Cheers, Omar

I think Breguet is overlooked because at their price bracket, value retention is an important consideration. Of course there are some who will proudly proclaim that value retention is not a concern, which is a flex in itself, and not something everyone can do. Also, they lost some cachet when they were acquired by the Swatch Group. If they were an independent, producing small numbers, it might address the first point above, and they would probably gather more interest. A shame, because they are a stellar brand who invented everything you mentioned, as well as the ubiquitous and very fundamental Breguet overcoil in modern watchmaking.

I am thinking about buying a watch from the tradition line for a couple of years now but it doesn't suit my lifestyle. I don't wear anything with a collar, not even a polo shirt, I dress very casual so there is no real occasion where I could wear that particular watch so I keep focusing on more sporty watches when it is time to get something new. I kind of hope there will be a cross over with the marine line in the future even though that is highly unlikely.

I will slightly disagree . Patek is not known for nautilus . Nautilus is popular because patek makes it . Patek has so many gems perpetual calendars , perpetual calendar chronographs , perpetual calendar retrrapante , world timers , grand complications etc etc . These are all lusted after models and highly regarded . The nautilus hype is only for instagram flexers but that’s not patek’s identity .
Using a silicone balance spring and escapement should almost be considered as a crime on a Breguet showpiece like this. It undermines master watchmaker skills

Wsalam mate! I would advice to save up and get a Casio or a basic G-Shock, as they will last you much longer than those that you mentioned. You could also look into Timex or older generation Seiko 5 if you want to get into mechanical movements. Bit pricier than SKMEI, but will definitely last you decades (with proper care and servicing). Sadly people are interested in Rolex watches they can flex and flip. People are true watch enthusiasts know how special Breguet watches are. BY the way it's highly debated that he invented all those things first. What is beyond doubt is that he came up with the absolute best versions of each. His 'resonance' watch with the two balance wheels is the one id like to have above all.
If I had the money and didn't care about spending that sort of money on a damn watch, I'd buy a breguet tradition over any other watch. It will never happen...
It's not saying much that a watch is better than a Rolex. A Rolex is a solid quality tool watch. Nothing more. There are thousands of watches with more complications, better quality, better accuracy, better finishes, etc. What Rolex has going for it is better resale value, which no Breguet has.
Yes, that depreciation shouldn't just be an emotional signal, it should serve as a red flag. The market generally doesn't tell lies, so this devaluing says that this watch is overvalued (like its head is in the clouds) and if you can't afford it at retail you probably can't afford it at discount. The overvaluation says that there is a disconnect between the brand's own self-worth and their real worth from outsiders. I love the idea of exposing the watch works like this, and MB&F does similar things. And yet, I expect that the physics makes this a fragile watch.
Some brands are completely overrated (p.e. Rolex). Breguet is underrated? Great, so I am glad to buy fantastic watches to affordable prices. Everybody wants to throw away money for a simple massproduct like Rolex? Perfect - thankfully I am NOT everbody... Guys out there, sell your massproducts to the flock of sheep and buy REAL masterpieces.

I could not care less about residual values - if I had a Breguet I would cherish it for the rest of my life. I would not dream of selling it.

I just bought a pre-owned Breguet Type XXI 3810ST. I am having it serviced by Swatch Group. I hope I won’t be sorry.

Some ADs do give discount from what I've heard. But buying pre-owned would make sense for a lot of collectors!
