Then his lines like "I guess Lieutenant Dan figured there's some things you just can't change. He didn't want to be called crippled, just like I didn't want to be called stupid." "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is."
What I love about this movie is that it shows the 2 sides of life during the 60's, 70's, and into the 80's. Forrest grew up with generational wealth, a mother who loved him, and he had one opportunity after another thrown at him despite what we perceive as his "challenges". He went to college, went into the army, built solid relationships, fought in the Vietnam war, met several presidents, grew his wealth etc. Meanwhile, Jenny grew up in a shack with an abusive father, it seemed like she dropped out of college, she was unable to make meaningful connections with friends and boyfriends due to her childhood abuses, took part in the hippy movement and spoke out against the Vietnam war, participated in the drug use and nomadic culture that was prevalent in those years, objectified herself because that's what she felt she was worth, and didn't stay close to Forrest because she believed he was too good for her. They lived completely opposite and separate lives, and yet they always knew in their hearts that home was being together. I just love the contrast and the depth that both of those characters have on opposite ends of the spectrum ❤️
Jenny was kicked out of college because of the playboy photos. Even today there is predatory and manipulative pressures for people who want to be "famous" to do things out of their comfort zones. She did not look happy in the magazine.

This was a lovely reaction, and I'm so relieved for that! I love this movie but find I have a hard time watching reactions to it because SO many people misunderstand and harshly judge Jenny's character, and it causes me a fair amount of distress and disgust that so many people have absolutely NO clue what happens to people who are abused as children, and what kind of problems they can develop when they grow older (especially back then, before getting therapy was an option to help you cope with childhood trauma). Several reactors I've seen interpreted this movie as Jenny being cruelly manipulative and only coming back to Forrest because he got rich. Some people are just so ignorant and judgmental, it's amazing, and not in a good way! So I was a little nervous about coming into this video but had a notion you'd likely be sympathetic, and you were indeed a complete sweetheart :)
I've always thought the feather represented the question of do we have a destiny, it is pre-determined or are we just floating around on a breeze--like the feather.
Forrest Gump is absolutely iconic. This film has touched so many people. It gave us the life lesson of "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get"...but it also showed us positive thinking despite tragedy in our lives. Tom Hanks is the consummate actor.His list of films is impressive. If you haven't seen it, try watching "Apollo 13"...great film. Don't get down on yourself for getting emotional watching this, trust me many other people did too. Just shows you are human, and have empathy, and a heart. Great reaction, keep up the good work. I’ve seen so many people watch this and get mad at how she treats Forrest and I think they forget how hard her life has been and that’s why she keeps running away. Also the phone call in the hotel. That is the famous watergate scandal. People broke into the democratic national committee headquarters to get info and install listening devices. It was discovered President Nixon was involved with it and he ended up resigning. The movie is trying to imply Forrest made the call that discovered the break-in which obviously isn’t true but I love how the movie puts him in all these historical moments.

In the movie Forrest asked his mom what his destiny was. She said something about she wasn’t sure if we have a destiny or we just kinda float around on a breeze. I think the feather symbolizes our destiny.
You just know Lt. Dan and Susan will be having the Forrests over for holidays regularly. Bubba was the one recruit to invite Forrest to share his seat - and although he was killed in action, his siblings and mother are set for life thanks to that chance encounter (or destiny??). And little Jenny was the one kid to invite Forrest to share her seat...and thanks to that trivial chance encounter (or destiny??), she had the one stable presence in her tumultuous life - and a son - and the security of knowing he'd be well looked after by the sort of kind, devoted father she'd never been lucky enough to have.
the large volume of letters he received in the hospital were letters he wrote to Jenny while he was away overseas ( but were returned by the Post Office because person/Jenny moved, not received . not responded to ....) Also, the "thieves" you referrered to with the flashlights at the office across from the hotel Forest was staying at was actually a depiction of when men broke into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate offices and hotel, as part of the Watergate scandal ( a political scandal involving former American President Nixon, who ended up resigning over the accusations)
Jenny was broken, because of the abuse she suffered from her dad, so she felt worthless and not good enough for someone as good as Forrest. She was also running thru out the movie. Running into trouble as Forrest kept running into good fortune.
The feather, indeed, has a great deal of symbolism. One not mentioned is Jenny. Remember: she prayed to be a bird and fly away. When Forrest is speaking at her grave, we see a bird fly from their tree.
What you see in this that you don’t see so much today is they just let you feel a lot of those scenes, they don’t cut it instantly with a joke to break the tension.
I loved this movie when it came out, the soundtrack was the best. It was on one of those multi disc CDs. Great film. And as I always share in reactions for Forrest Gump, I am a Jenny that found my Forrest. My sweet, sensitive and patient wonderful man that has loved me unconditionally for 20 years, and saved me from myself. :)

Love that you respected the struggles that Jenny went through-so many reactors jump to hating her, which makes it clear they don’t understand the repercussions of the childhood abuse she went through. A great reaction to one of my all time favourite films. As a fellow Brit is was good to hear an English accent, and it made a change to have a person showing sympathy and understanding towards Jenny, instead of the hate she receives from so many reactors. You didn't cop on to Forrest discovering the Watergate Scandal, which was a major event in the history of the United States. It resulted in the resignation of President Richard Nixon. They were no ordinary thieves that Forrest spotted in the dark in that building.
I’ve been binge watching Forrest Gump reactions. It is my favorite movie in part because of the historical timeline that is mostly my own. I guess that I am 4 years younger than the fictional Gump of the references are familiar. I was drafted in 1970 and although my military service was different, I still sobbed in the theater when Bubba died. I really appreciated the sensitivity of your reaction.
Jenny sees herself as 'damaged goods' because of what her father did to her. She thinks Forrest could do better and so just stumbles around from one abusive relationship to another until she has someone she needs to take care of. Forrest could never be an officer, but as someone who is told exactly what to do he excels. The only time he ever disobeys an order is when he does not leave Lieutenant Dan there to die and goes to rescue Bubba. His mental difference means he is extremely focussed, so he can do tasks like assembling the rifle really fast and once he's told to keep his eye on the ball his focus makes him an excellent table tennis player. She never wrote to him, those are all the letters he wrote to her 'returned to sender'.
Some people don’t understand what Jinny died from because it not said. Did you pick that up? They named what his momma died of. Tristan, I hope you come to Texas someday and we can visit. ❤

My favorite movie of all time. People are so hard on Jenny-and those people must not know what it is like when you're abused from your earliest years. I get it. You don't want that darkness to affect other people you care about, but you still want to be loved. The problem is you don't recognize real love when you see it, because you've learned to associate love with pain and fear.
It's not a true story about a man named Forrest, but the events that Forrest was placed in were indeed American historical events of which Tom Hanks was superimposed.

Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😈 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 12. Observation: Bubba's not a small dude. Forrest carries him with a bullet in his ass. 13. Sometimes, I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"🥺 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.🤩 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

My favorite movie of all time. People are so hard on Jenny-and those people must not know what it is like when you're abused from your earliest years. I get it. You don't want that darkness to affect other people you care about, but you still want to be loved. The problem is you don't recognize real love when you see it, because you've learned to associate love with pain and fear.
It's not a true story about a man named Forrest, but the events that Forrest was placed in were indeed American historical events of which Tom Hanks was superimposed.
This movie is the best at the roller coaster of emotions. They make you so content and happy then rip your guts out.
