It’s very cute. I honestly don’t make circle skirts for myself. It takes far to much fabric. So yeah I use panels, a single tie for the underneath, attaching my pockets to the back, and a sash on the front that circles my body and ties in the front. I also hem everything as I go so in the end I really don’t need to hem.

So I found at an op shop (thrift store) a gorgeous 1980’s wool coat with intense arm poof and the most gorgeous embroidery and filigree things.
    It was pure wool.
It was a really interesting green/yellow (I cannot describe the colour) and the embroidery was black. It looked like a perfect 1890’s riding jacket. It was 3/4 sleeve (turns out it was from a small designer brand and would have cost a mint med)
It fit me perfectly, esp with a corset and a bit of poof for the chest. I found it about 3 days before my 29th birthday.
I very stupidly decided the day or so before to make a quick full length black walking skirt and petticoat. Petticoat was bright purple fabric I got on clearance and the skirt was black calico (they had absolutely nothing in the right weight) and I panic sewed it. I was literally working pretty much up til an hour before the party (made my cake and food inbetween sewing)
I had to pin myself into the dress because I literally didn’t have time for closures. I was like hey, good enough for the time period it’s good enough for me.
I had such a wonderful reaction to the outfit and my friend thought I had tailored the jacket.
I’m having to resew the skirt because my darling cat (without me noticing) clawed the top part of the skirt and it must have just caught his claws. Of course it had to be on the front and super visible.
I promised myself I would never panic sew to such a crazy deadline again. I will probably break this promise but that’s on me heh.

I sew most of my clothes and use thrifted sheets, tablecloths, curtains, tapestry, and sometimes I find actual "fabric." I went through that 2 years ago after I was diagnosed with pre diabetes after over indulging in pastry during the pandemic. I lost 50 to 60 pounds on the low carb diet and all my clothes were massively too big. Some things just couldn't be easily altered, like jeans and more fitting pants so they went. Tops were altered but not all successfully so they are now gardening and painting clothes. It was funny that it didn't seem noticeable until suddenly I seemed to swim in everything. But my blood sugar and blood pressure are down at the normal level now.

i made a couple of coquelicot skirts myself and i definitely modified the pockets for the second one. it makes sense that a historical pocket tied to your side would have an opening near its center. but if you want to use it comfortably near your front center rather than your side, i'd recommend moving the opening. 😊 it might not be an issue for others, but i found it difficult hunting for items when it was difficult for me reach parts of the pockets. at that point, i could also make the opening a couple of centimetres smaller.
another modification i did was making eyelets for the front fastening. similar to the way you did it, only i made a few more of them (around 7-8 on each side). because putting the first skirt on was already a bit of a workout and the eyelets are even more hidden underneath other pieces of the fabric than were the top loops, i laced it permanently. with two bunny ears (?) somewhere near the middle of the eyelets, all i need to do while putting it on is to tug as long as i want and then tie the excess in a bow.
something i'll probably do in the future is keeping the system but loosing the circle skirt, making it the good old gathered skirt. i know that the area where i live is a lot of straight streets with straight apartment buildings on a top of an incline which means it gets a bit windy here… but i hadn't wore a circle skirt outside before so i didn't know that wearing a circle skirt without a petticoat in a windy environment is not healthy for one's heart! 😄 additional bonus is ending up with less waste fabric and not having to deal with seams on the bias and levelling the hem. this is just a theoretical plan for future me to deal with, i have no idea if it's going to work out well with the split sides.

@@MaireColclough Word from the wise: I did this and did not change the entry, so they are a PAIN when you need to use the restroom. The current plan is to go back and fix it to make the front waistband close in the back (I want to use elastic to connect the ends to reduce bulk and make it easy in/out) and put the pockets onto the front. Then, I will make it so the back waistband is the one on top and ties in the front. I still wear this one a lot though, despite the struggle because they are super cute.

Thank you! I had seen other videos of this skirt. The idea made me want it but watching the results kept me from actually adding it to the list. Not completely sure why but it took the wonderful swirl and flow of your result to hook me. I groan cause I am betting I will need the same type fabric, just a bit lighter (I want it mid calf and am tall). So very glad I watched you make and show off your skirt! My preference for simply cotton will just have to take a hike, lol. For my future reference (cause gray hairs), suiting - wool ply rayon blend, maybe.

Oh I love the color! 😍❤️❤️It came out so pretty. Looks like fun and lots of twirl factor. And it pairs so well with the blouses. I hope you make more, with less fiddly fabric. Maybe find some cat traps (aka boxes)for the kitties while you put it on. Who am I kidding kittens can detect loose sting a mile away 😂😂I actually have the coquelicot skirt pattern. I haven't made it yet. I thought I was going to raid my stash and make one only to discover that I had used everything that had any sizable length and need to recharge my stash. I did make the pirate shirt out of an old bed sheet and I started the corselett that Shannon Makes did as well, but I got into a time bunch with homeschooling my kids then I had to make 5 vests and a skirt for darrling daughter (who will only cooperate with it is if its historybounding) for Christmas picturs because why do something as simple as matching sweaters or pajama pictures when you can torture yourself and make vests and a matching skirt, right? Oh and not to mention helping baby girl make 2 historically inspired gowns to wear to two differnt dances. Now it's too hot to sew and I have been living by the pool praying for rain. Hopefully monsoon season will kick into gear and cool things off and I done. There are a few projects I want to make including the coquelicot skirt. Which I want to make so it's adjustable in length, inspired by Shannon Makes who did a history bounding skirt that she was able to secretly make longer and shorter as needed. Then I have a half crazy idea of fitting the walking skirt pattern to the coquelicot waistband. I'm convinced that I'm gluting for a punishment.

While my oldest hides in his room. At least he keeps his raging hormones in there most of the time. Which is more than I can say for my 13 yr old. He has no problems bringing his raging hormones around the house with him. The 10 yr old just wants to paint his hot wheels with glow paint and the 8 yr old just wants to be sneaky about what he does. After someone used my fabric scissors to cut out a stick man and no the pattern I gave up. Apparently it ain't happening right now. I'm on my own right now. I have been going for skirts I can reduce the elastic band in the waist so if I drop a coupe of inches I just unpick the small section I threaded it through and tighten it up. The skirt and the blouse are fantastic together partly due to pre-planning the fabrics, and partly because they were designed by the same designer (Wildflower Design). You may find the blouse works just fine with an elastic-waised circle skirt, or possibly some pattern-hacked Winslow Culottes by Helen's Closet.

I have discovered 2 virtually foolproof ways to trigger quick changes in body measurements without any pesky changes to food or physical activity:
    1. Buy an expensive bra that fits perfectly - your bust will laugh at your impudence and either expand rapidly or deflate like a pair of defunct weather balloons.
    2. Get your most beloved ring(s) resized. Bonus points if the cost of the gold to increase the band is a significant percentage of the total value of the ring.

Im glad you skipped the front entry pockets (the number of times I have dropped my phone on my foot 😂). At this point, I think I would rather just have a bit of elastic in there, but that's just me. As far as I know, the pattern is actually supposed to be a half circle plus extra for the overlap. Also, as a side note, if you could dm me about the location of the secret discount fabricland 😏. I am looking at doing something similar, only without the timing. I am planning to do the cashmerette upton and roseclair. Im starting with shirts, but hoping I can essentially make the roseclair as designed and still get the adjustability from the wrap. The upton is going to be done the way Charlie does the split side dresses. Then I'm planning to do split side skirts..... somewhere between the Stitchery and Katherine sews versions. And I might still have to remake during weight loss at some point, but I have 180ish pounds to lose. Although I found out last night that would still leave me considered overweight..... so we'll see. It'll take awhile, I don't use a sewing machine.

If the blouses aren't tucked in an elastic skirt would work. I always like elastic waists as my stomach can bloat up a couple of sizes within a couple of hours depending on what I eat. The casing can also be left open or closed with a few stitches and adjusted. I think no roll elastic would have to be used. The cheaper elastic just doesn't work well with waistbands, especially with pockets.
