Tate McRae is a great example of a Gen Z talent. She grew up in front of a camera - remember, hers is the only generation that never knew life before iPhones and webcams, so she's not shy about sharing her image. A trained dancer, the Alberta teen serves clipped moves to her 3.5 million TikTok followers with the same ease that she executes longform choreography in her music videos. Check out “working” with R&B star Khalid and “feel like shit.” Her dusky mid-register vocals outline the picture. Her physicality colors it in. Tate’s bonafides, which also include the wildly successful UA-cam channel she started at age 13, made her a shoe-in for our DSCVR series back in 2020. Subsequent performances of “All My Friends Are Fake” and “Happy Face” convinced us we’d be working with her again in the future. In the backdrop of the pandemic, her star has risen as her determined pop sound has struck a chord with fans. Awesome that she could make time between high school classes (!!!) for a return to Vevo’s studios. Though she sits through her performance of “feel like shit,” her shoulders roll and pinch, her hands clench and unclench. Watch her in action - she puts all of her emotions into play.

I don't know about y'all but..I don't think someone can create such an emotional song without having went through something or had someone close to them go through it. I know that Tate probably won't see or read this. Queen, if you went through something that made you write this..We are so damn proud of you.
