Luke, just want to say that I’ve been following your content for many years and have benefited immensely with your information and I noticed that this year in particular you’ve had an extra focus on quality information and useful tips that is very straight to the point and valuable. This growing season you have really outdone yourself with videos and the information that you provide to the world. Thank you. My garden has never looked better because of you.
Excellent reminders in this video Luke! We are in the heat of the battle (game time), so we can lose our clarity when fighting all of the variables that challenge us. This was a great half-time pep talk to keep us focused 👊🏻🌻👊🏻
Can you do a video on giving your/our garden a break? I’m not growing this year. Instead I’m building up my supply of compost and worm castings. Thinking about covering my beds with black plastic or landscape fabric to minimize the ill effects of exposure.
This is EXACTLY what my starving self needs, -now that the heat and crazy rain have come, and everything has either bolted or gone to flower, i have alot of beds that are...in sad-looking states, and i KNOW i need to plant something, but i was scared until now...but i believe in myself, and i will go at LEAST try to plant some short-season crops that will begin sprouting in the heat, but will LOVE and not care about the upcoming cooler season, that will help feed me, and make me feel WAY less guilty about having baren sad falltime-looking beds.
I’m trying a winter killing cover crop for the first time this summer. It’s for my garlic bed, that I just harvested today. A mix of nitrogen fixing, winter kill varieties. I’ll start them as soon as they arrive, about a week from now, and then trim the growth and smoother them sometime in September, before I replant my garlic I late October. Bonus is that it will also double as mulch because I use the “no till method” for my gardening, so I’ll need to apply much less straw on top. I do however use my broad fork before planting next year’s garlic.
@@IHealLiving I’ve tried growing corn twice and have had a storm come through with 70+ mile an hour winds and blew them over, right when they were tasseling, so I’ve given up trying to grow corn.
I love seeing how you and the videos are maturing. You've got some quality videographers now! I love your suggestions for succession planting; some people say I garden to compost! I was waiting to you to mention tossing all those spent plants into your compost heap so they can replenish the soil next year, or sooner.. I would mow them all up together. Suggeston for broccoli stalks, peel and make coins to toss into your stirfries. They can be frozen until you are ready for a great stirfry.
Last year was the first year I did this. Once I had enough of zucchini and the plants were getting a little rough looking I pulled them out and had a lot of free space!
Wonderful inspiration & advice Luke.. & in the comments... Happy 🇨🇦 Canada Day 🇨🇦 to all the Canadian fans of this channel.. 😊😊 Cuz I'm sure I'm not the only one.. lol... 🇨🇦 And hope all our American cousins have an Awesome 4th of July!! God bless... happy gardening everyone. . 😊😊

Can you answer a question for me, my husband came home with miracle grow for trees and shrub. I am planting in buckets and swimming pools. Can I use this for vegetables? I don't know if they did not have other kind and that is why he bought this or not. He had a blood clot on his brain years ago and he has some trouble. If I say its the wrong stuff he will be angry, he wanted me to go too. I was planting and wanted to get it done and did not want to go. I am 81 and probably the last year I do this, my daughter came and planted all the tomato plants and close to 40. Its so hard for me. Thank you so much for what you do.
Hello brother I ordered asparagus bare root and I received it but i live in KUWAIT Which is a very very very hot country in summer, can i put my roots in the fridge? For like a couple of months!????
Thanks for your informative videos. I have a question for you that's off topic. Have you had any experience with Asian Jumping worms? I believe I have them in my garden and wonder if you have any information on how to get RID OF THEM and what to do to help heal the soil they are destroying. Thanks for your help.
I found out I have them to and from what I’ve researched there isn’t a lot you can do about them. Manually removing the ones you find, but there’s no spray or powder or even nematodes to “get rid of them”
@@cjaracz2757 if you look it up, most of the earthworms in the United States are invasive species. Most of the native species were wiped out in the last ice age.
I’m growing bulbing onions for the first time this year! I’ve read I shouldn’t plant onions in the same spot for 3 seasons is that true? I stuck them everywhere and it’ll be hard to find a spot next year lol
Unless you have a problem with disease like rust, or pests like onion root maggots, there’s really no reason to move them. If you are having issues, not growing onions in the bed for several years can negate the problem.
We raise our own pork. Between the pigs, lamb and chickens the leaves get shared and eaten up. I like that our farm animals get to eat sustainably too before butcher. Our garden feeds all of us😂
If your new soil has low fertility, you'll get pests so add on lots of organics, especially when putting the garden to bed at the close of the season. I top dress with compost, pulverized egg shell, a little lime, chopped and shredded garden and yard waste, coffee grounds and unsalted potato water. During the garden season I'll pull/chop and drop weeds. Over time, the soil becomes very bio-active, the plants get super healthy and bugs don't like that.
I have been frustrated with growing broccoli and need some counsel . 1. The last time it was covered in a powdery aphid coating . 2. I’m infested with Earwigs that multiply each year and eat my plants into a lacy mess . HELP !!!!!
When I was a chef in food service, I always used the broccoli stems to make broccoli cheese soup!!! Sold out in a matter of hours every time!!!
I make the broccoli slaw out of the stem!! My fave!
For me, when in doubt, more bush beans.

Broccoli stem: just peel the fibrous part off of the outside and eat the inner center raw. It is the very best part of the broccoli!
it really is the best part!
I like to peel it, slice it and throw it in stir-fry. So good!
I peel it, but it never goes to be cooked because I eat it. Its yummy.

The stem is my favorite part as well. I slice them and fry them in a pan with butter salt and pepper.
How do you control cabbage moth in your brassicas? I ended up pulling mine, as I was tired of dealing with them.
Dude, Trifecta plus! Omg that stuff is magic! I am totally buying another bag, the $ I wasted on other fertilizers 🤦♂️

Trifecta 😂😂😂😂. Sounds toxic
Broccoli stem is our favorite part also.
Crop rotation can be important for the backyard gardener if you have root knot nematodes.

Look at the NPK numbers. Tomatoes should have a high potassium (middle number.)
Do you have a corn sweet type that can be planted NOW ? One with short germinate time
Do you compost in place? What are your thoughts? Do rolly Polly bugs eat new sprouted plants?
Do you ever use insect netting and shade cloth to cover your plants ?
How do you keep rabbits out of your garden?
broccoli salad!!!
Yes, but what are you growing in there during the Winter? Your video says "Grow Year Round".

Doesnt leaving roots promote nematodes?
