This Catbalogan group has injected a latin rhythm in between the traditional sinulog beat; that shaved off a bit of the "boring-ness" of the usual sinulog sound. Then comes the bugles which, I haven't heard anyone handle well, frankly. There was a group back in the early or mid-90's (if my memory serves me right, it was from one chinese school, from Bacolod, again, if my poor brain is still honest to me) that did a really refreshing take on the sinulog rhythm, with matching marching steps. The buglers and the lyre had enriching parts that did not create annoying, boring, inane pretentious melodies. I never saw something like that again. I'll wait for the next creative 'sound creator' for this event.
Refreshing? I think u better take a look on Sinulog festivals in Negros Oriental cause their Sinulog sound is way more upbeat and refreshing than the traditional Sinulog sound in Cebu.
