Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 8 is getting serious as the mystery of Jack Crusher gets stranger. But, in addition to all the phaser fire and mayhem, the big news about this episode is that this is the first time since 2002, that all The Next Generation crew have been together in the same room.
That’s right, it’s been over 20 years since we’ve seen this beautiful sight…
[CLIP]
Welcome back to ScreenCrush, I’m Ryan Arey, and this is all of the Easter eggs, references, and things you missed in Star Trek: Picard, Season 3, Episode 8, “Surrender.”
The episode opens with a first for Star Trek cinematography, as we pull back from a reflection in the window on top of the bridge. Vadic is lighting one of her cigarettes, even though, in The Wrath of Khan, we learned there was really, really no smoking on the bridge of a starship.
[CLIP]
Early in the episode, Jack uses his body-jumping abilities, which is a relatively uncommon super-power in the Star Trek canon, though we did see some similar body surfing in the Voyager episode “Vis-a-Vis,” not to mention the evil Rejac alien spirit jumping people’s bodies in the TOS classic “Wolf in the Fold.”
That said, Jack’s ability to jump into other people’s bodies is a bit like what happens in every episode of Quantum Leap.
[CLIP]
Doug: Hey, what would happen if Sam leaped into the body of Captain Archer in Enterprise?
Well, that can’t happen, just because they’re both Scott Bakula, that’s a different show.
Doug: Would that leap be like…a long way, getting from there to here…
[CLIP]
Okay high-five.
As Vadic holds the Titan hostage, we get a good dose of classic TOS bridge sound effects, which is appropriate because Vadic’s threats to the crew are very reminiscent of Khan…
Doug: Oh great, more Wrath of Khan references
Nope! These Khan references feel much closer to Khan’s first appearance in the TOS episode “Space Seed.”
Here, Vadic threatens to deprive the crew of oxygen or gravity, with a tap of her finger. Which, is a lot like Khan threatening the crew of the Enterprise with the same kind of environmental manipulation when he took over the ship in “Space Seed,”
[CLIP]
Vadic also threatens to make it snow in the crew mess. [clip] This kind of thing has happened before in Star Trek, specifically in the Animated Series episode “The Practical Joker,” in which the Enterprise computer went haywire and made it snow in the recreation room.
Over on the Shrike, Will and Deanna are talking about Betazoid words, and Will calls her [“Imzadi,”] which means “beloved” in the Betazoid language, which we learned about back in TNG.
Troi and Riker talk about the death of their son, Thad, which happened in the years before Picard Season 1, and was referenced earlier in the season in the episode “Seventeen Seconds.”
Troi says the Changelings came to the Riker home on Nepenthe, pretending to be Will and she jokes that the Changeling was [“good in bed, bad at pizza.” ]
The pizza remark references Riker making pizza for his family, and Picard and Soji in the Season 1 episode “Nepenthe.”
As Troi wonders if they should have really given the Changelings a “compromised code,”and Riker says, confidently: - Фільми й анімація
What did you think of the episode?
loved DATA's neck crack
Great love your videos and star wars
Best star trek episode in the past 2 decades!!!!
Loved this episode and all the character interactions, even though it’s still annoying how much they are treading the mystery of Jack Crusher, best guess still possessed by a Paw Wraith
Is this a rescue or a continuation of the torture?
Vadic's worst nightmare came true: When she was blown into the void of space, she truly became a solid. A f**king solid.
Problem with this is she could have changed into a creature that can survive space. The changeling that attached itself to Odo's shuttle was surviving in space.
@@MrDefiant2 She might not have been able to. We've only seen her as Vadic and never changing shape. Odo was very much the same to begin with.
@@luckygrunt She changed into the security officer that beat up Riker at the very end of episode 6 at least.
@@MrDefiant2 another simpler way she could come back in a later episode, her shattered pieces somehow find their way into an airlock and she reforms once she's no longer frozen
@@pcguru3096 Or some Ferengi salvaging the wreckage of the Shrike finding her shattered pieces, thinking they are some kind of crystal.
@2:49 Spock also said something similar to Uhura in star trek 6 the undiscovered country when he said "if I know the captain, he is already planning his escape" [from Rura Penthe, the Klingon Prison Planet]" and then the camera cuts to Kirk getting beat up by a big alien and NOT planning his escape.
Yes I thought of this too!
That's what I thought also!
Another instance of this: “The Empath”
Yeah this was what I thought of as well & a much better reference than the Indy reference... although that was a great scene.
Much better reference since it’s a First Officer speaking about his Captain (Captain and Admiral for Riker and Picard)
I really liked Data’s line about “friendly pissed off operating system
"unwanted guests and ... monologuing protoplasms" cracked me up
@@lancepharker Yep, that was the line of the episode comedically speaking.
Yeah, that's a bit of Lore's spitefire retorts coming through, which nicely shows the integration of personalities.
@@NickMichalak I loved Lore
Did you notice how bright it was in the conference room when the whole crew was back together the lighting got brighter
Must be hard to do since the entire Titan seems to be made out of shiny black plastic :)
@@dwarftoad Nah, every viewer is just wearing sunglasses and we don't know it :)
Word/Riker/Troi with the banter i've been waiting 30 years for...best part.
Another superb episode. Brent Spiner really nails the subtle differences between Data and Lore, the smallest inflections and mannerisms.
And is now playing a hybrid of both of them. It's crazy how subtle but noticeable it is.
@@alextirrellRI The hybrid is very close to Brent Spiner.
Im glad im not the only one who instantly thought "BECAUSE HE's HOLDING A THERMAL DETONATOR!!"
Me too! Hahahah!
I really thought the design of the device was a little too on the nose. What the heck, though. Star Trek and Star Wars have been borrowing from each other for decades. I really wish that they'd drop the pretense and do a crossover.
@@joelellis7035 Interesting idea... don't see it working though, they are separate universes with separate physical laws. Somehow painting Picard as a force sensitive innate is strangely appealing though...
Me too.
@@atlasfeynman1039 they can use a black hole that connect star trek and star wars universe 🤣 apparently, it is a galaxy far far away ~~
I can not lie. I teared up when they showed Spot.
Watched Generations the other day and forgot about the scene at the end where Data is looking for Spot. Spot is hugely important to him.
Cats really hold on to your soul.
I'm sure a lot of us did. "Tell him he's a pretty cat and a good cat"
Yes they do
Yep.
Wesley Crusher is behind the red door looking for his role back, Jack
Geordi: “Hey Data, you just used a contraction.” Data: “No I didn’t.”
I never quite understood why using a contraction in conversation was beyond (or blocked?) his programming. Simple spell check apps can add contractions while typing. Data can easily navigate all the billions of calculations needed for quick reactions in combat, piloting a ship, and problem solving,..... yet he can't decide before he speaks, to say "can't" rather that "can not"? Was this a pre-programmed limitation for some unknown reason? Hypothetical, Data sings, we've seen this before. What if the song has a contraction in it? Does he just mimic what he hears in the lyrics and sing it verbatim, or does he fumble with and un-contracted version of those lyrics? Deep thoughts. And yeah, it's all just a show/movie and fake, I get this. This just never made sense to me.
@@Jamespennington71 He was established as a prototype by Noonien Soong so makes sense he's not perfect. Plus, it kept his speech unique and added to the Spock parallels.
@@Jamespennington71 It's a bit of dramatic license to add a point of interest. Nevermind that it really makes no sense whatsoever from a programming basis.
In the scene between Vadic and Jack, Jack says I'm all ears.
Vadic says ears... Yes as she grabs his earlobe.
That VERY MUCH reminds me of how Kais and Vedeks check for a person's pagh! 😊
This was a f…ing solid episode (reference to the end)
Man that was a first!😂
Fucking great episode! They really are giving the TNG cast some of the best writing they ever had to work with. And they seem determined to give each their own time to shine their best light. The old connections are hitting right in the heart too. The scenes between Jordy and Data and Deana and Will were perfect. Loving this show.
Hey language man! Lol jk. Fucking solids.
I once again say that if they had just done this for Season 1 and 2; I would have been MUCH MUCH happier. This season was brilliant compared to the rest....
All 3 seasons are amazing in their own ways. Season 1 was amazing in showing a retired Picard. Season 2 was amazing in both closing out Q and doing a TNG version of The Voyage Home. Season 3 is amazing at being TNG Season 8.
I read that Stewart was dead set against making Picard a TNG reunion series. Hence the very weak two seasons. It was the failure of Discovery and the apparent success of Strange New Worlds that pushed CBS into the change. Hiring the new show runner made all the difference. He is a true Trekkie.
@@langm1701 give me a break both of those seasons were completely forgettable with incoherent plots. I know people who are actively avoiding season three because of those two seasons
Season 1 was *rough* but I really liked a lot of the ideas and parts of the story. But it was rough. Didn’t rate it highly at all as a season. 2 was a huge improvement, I found a lot of it to be incredibly solid. 3 is yet another improvement but we will need to see if they stick the landing.
@@thestarseeker8196 Season 2 was ruined with endless flashback scenes of a young Picard wandering the estate, holding a candle. Then you had scenes that went nowhere, didn't connect with the rest of the episode, or even series.. Absolute train wreck of a season.
I cried when seeing Spot with Data. I can't wait to see the last 2 eps! Love the channel and videos keep up the good work!
memory of space cat saves universe! news at 11.
I was stone cold cool throughout the while Episode, but when Data picked Up Spot and said "yes" to him, that was it for me.😢
Me, too! 😥😥
When Vadic was sucked out in to space, it was through a hatch that opened in the view screen. In TWOK, Kirk walked onto the simulator version of the Enterprise after the failed Kobayashi Maru test - via a hatch that opened in the view screen.
The hatch is also a reference to the episode The Naked Now. After the crew of the Tsiolkovsky opened their bridge access hatch, Riker says they were sucked out. Data replies: "Correction Sir, it's blown out".
Blown out into space
I thought of Nemesis, where the Simitar blows a hole in the bridge, replacing the viewscreen with an impromptu window, and causing a decompression sequence.
When Seven said Get off my bridge, I immediately thought of Worf saying "If you were any other man, I would kill you where you stand"
I always wonder why Starfleet insists on putting their command crew in a vulnerable area of starships, not to mention the bridge is practically a bullseye in the center of the saucer.
With all the Easter Eggs you point out, I can't believe you missed one that I actually missed. Amanda Plummer is the big Changeling baddie and her dad Christopher Plummer was the Klingon Chang in Star Trek VI which also features the first appearance of a Changeling in Trek.
Probably considered it too obvious to mention.
I teared up a bit when they sat down at the table. You don't realize how long a glimmer of happiness has been missing until it shines so bright in the darkness. And it wasn't nostalgia, it is the lack of shows that explore what Tng, Voy, Ds9, Tos, and even Ent.
So, Nepenthe also showed up in this week's Star Wars: The Mandalorian! It was the oil/booze served in the Droid bar. In this, the planet that Will and Deanna lived on and apparently hated. Also, I shouted out loud "Because he's holding a Thermal Detonator!" like C3-PO in Return of the Jedi when Jack pulled the shield out!
Oh! The Geordi /Picard exchange also reminded me of Cyclops and Wolverine's similar exchange in the original X-Men movie ( Sir Patrick Stewart also in that)!
Glad I wasn't alone in noticing the Nepenthe reference.
Yep, I also picked that up of the Nepenthe reference as I had just watched The Mandalorian, super cool synchronicity.
Nepenthe is a possibly fictional medicine for sorrow - a "drug of forgetfulness" mentioned in ancient Greek literature and Greek mythology
Good video! I think Riker's comments about Picard setting a trap for Vadic is an allusion to Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, when Spock says, "If I know the Captain, he is already deep into his plans to escape," followed by a shot of Kirk losing a fight to a larger, stronger alien. So in both cases, first officers are very wrong about what their captains are doing. Subtle indeed!
"Star Trek Picard" season 3 is a MUST SEE. It is a love letter to the Next Generation and to the totality of Star Trek, itself. Also, I am always floored by your turnaround! You ROCK, ScreenCrush, and that is a true story. ...High-Five!
I really wish that Data had said "I love you brother" as Lore disappeared. Would have been a great call back to the first time Lore was deactivated.
I agree. Or something like “you’ll never die within me”
I was waiting for Lore to say "well played Brother"
Is Lore’s original body still in storage?
We would have thought that he would want that body back vs one that could age.
A nice line would have been "We are Datalore", a reference to the first season episode that introduced Lore.
This season has shown us how much we loved our Star Trek series...all of them. I'm ready for more. Bring it.
I love all Will and Deana scenes especially when Worf rescued them. These three are super funny together. They need to lead the new series. It'd be super fun!
The writers are using Worf as comic relief, sometimes I think they overdo it.
Alas, this is likely the end of the line for the TNG primary crew. I wouldn't be shocked if the entire crew were lost in the final battle. I DO think it's possible to have a Commander Seven oF NINE and Captain Shaw series with TITAN.
I KNEW Data was taking over Lore as soon as he handed over Spot! That scene brought tears to my eyes... LOVED IT!!❤❤❤
I thought so with the deck of cards. It was a bluff play
I was thinking that somehow he was going to "reach" Lore and Lore would stop being a prick and they would somehow merge into one being like Professor Hulk.
@@tonyvandeyl8575 in a way he did... he did say that Lore, B4 were now integrated into him.
The tension build up was perfect. Loved this episode
What about the best line of the episode? "My name is Seven of Nine!"
The neck snap Data did when he won control I believe was a call back to TNG when Lore did the neck snap as a response to the effects of having Data's emotion chip inside him.
Data is now fully evolved and integrated. Fully actualized human. With the memory of what it meant to be an android.
Vadic's line "oh f***ing solids" was awesome but when she was freezing in space my first thought was, well now your a solid bitch.
That spherical device Jack had reminded me of the polaron devices Sisko wanted to use on "Changeling-Gowron", but didn't get the chance because fake-Martok destroyed them.
I just watched that episode yesterday, and I was thinking the same thing
Same!
Such a great episode. I am sad to see Vadic go, She has already become one of the greatest villains in Trek history. I smile so much when we saw the Tasha Yar hologram, Spot and of course when the TNG gang was finally together for the first time in a very long time. We finally get the best version of Data, and he can fulfill his final wishes, I also loved when he did his famous neck twitch and his neck cracked. With 2 episodes left, we still have so much we don't know. Who is the real big bad? What exactly is Jack? Plus seeing the Enterprise-F on the big screen.
I don't think Vadic is gone! In the Ready Room Brent says something about her in the last few episodes!
@@newearthwarrior6302 Since we still don't know who the big bad is, we don't know why Vadic was working for them, so I wouldn't be surprised if she at least shows up in a flashback once we get the reveal.
greatest villian?!? ugh most annoying
Surprised you didn't mention Seven of Nine's "Get off my bridge!" being an obvious nod to Harrison Ford's line in Air Force One ("Get off my plane!") before he similarly ejects the villain out of the ship.
Don´t forget, the soundtrack of this movie was composed of Jerry Goldsmith. That makes the movie much better for a trekkie
I was really hoping for a "Resistance is Futile" line instead. She did say "My Name is Seven of Nine" earlier in the ep.
@@timlanteigne298 I was going to post that "Resistance is futile" would have been the perfect line for Seven in that moment, but "Get off MY BRIDGE !" works much better.
Sevens yelling to get off the bridge was a great callback to Janeway also doing it.
The first time they attempted to control a starship with Data (by plugging him in) was on the Enterprise-D in the TNG Season 6 episode "A Fistful of Datas".
you caught one they missed here
I was so glad to see Spot again after all these years 😊
Usually when you have a door inside your mind, when you open it, it is to symbolize you are remembering memories you have repressed.
*Beverly Crusher seems to give birth to Mutants.*
First we have Wesley 'evolving into a higher lifeform' and traipsing across the galaxy with some strange fellow who calls himself 'The Traveller'
and now we have Jack with his 'powers'
I blame her grandma and that Irish candle ghost!
"I own a shirt with the poem on it." Awesome.... The mind fight scene between Data and Lore reminded me of Lower Decks (s3ep5) episode "Reflections" when Rutherford had a similar interaction with a younger version of himself.
Kirk still says the best “Fire,” from Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country! He gets up, raises his hand, clenched his fist and yells fire!
I think the most memorable one was when Riker says it at the end of The Best of Both Worlds part 1, with the expectation that the Borg cube containing Picard (Locutus) will be destroyed as a result.
The line about Picard trap also reminded of Star trek 6 when Spock says he has no doubt Kirk is deep into planning his escape from the klingon prison
Ok, so my housemate and I both immediately thought "Ah crap. Deanna is a changeling isn't she?" Once she started encouraging Jack to go through the red door.
Surely we're not the only ones. Right?
I've been worried she was a Changeling since they first brought her back on the Shrike. It just seems too obvious. I hope it's not true...
You think all those conversations with Riker a changeling could have had? They've tripped changelings up over small, personal details all season - no way does Will not know that's his wife now.
"Ok, so my housemate and I both immediately thought "Ah crap. Deanna is a changeling isn't she?" Once she started encouraging Jack to go through the red door.
Surely we're not the only ones. Right?"
"You may not be the only ones, but whoever is with you is just as wrong as you are.
There is NO WAY that Riker, having just spent all that time with his Deanna, his Imzadi, a Betazoid, and NOT know it was really her. You can't possibly think that, can you?
Yea I'm gonna say behind the red door is another Borg Queen or King that is also part changeling and has that brain thing Picard has because its used for cross universes conversations. Like space Twitter but for borg only :)
2:47 I would add that a similar comment from Spock Is mention in the undiscovered country. “Captain Kirk is deep in planning his escape”
This episode wrapped me in a warm fuzzy blanket of memories. It made me very happy.
Thank you so much and I agree. Some people disparage this show but I wonder what they think of season 1 and season 2 which were absolutely terrible. This is warm human exciting adventurous wonderful Star Trek with great actors who love each other and love the fans
2:00 another time that it has gotten snowy on a starfleet ship could also be seen in TNG episode “The Naked Now” (Written by D. C. Fontana) which was itself a callback to TOS episode “The Naked Time”
That fiery effect through the keyhole sure looked very Pah-wraith Fire Caves like.
Is it just me, or did it sound like Ryan was breaking up a little when talking about Spot?
Definitely.
Appropriately.
I know I was! During the show and watching this!
I actually thought we would cut back to him trying not to cry and Doug making a comment about it.
The fact that data learned love by having a cat is just one of the best things from TNG.
One of your best, Ryan. Love that you have a T-shirt with Data’s “Ode to Spot” poem.
The scene where Data is giving his memories to Lore made me think of the Neverending Story part 2 where Bastian loses his memories but it is when he uses his last wish to fill the emptiness with a heart he wins.
Data being said to not be able to take a life is incorrect - he was shown to be willing to take the life of that thief and indeed activated the disruptor before being beamed off in the episode "The Most Toys"
Yeah, but that guy was a little bitch.
“Everybody gets one.” -Data
He was able to use an ethical loophole in that instance though. By killing the Collector, he'd prevent the Collector from killing anyone else. Fortunately, he was beamed off the ship and his weapon was deactivated before the guy was killed. Data was definitely having internal difficulties with that decision/dilemma.
He's also able to continue functioning, knowing that he never actually killed the man. It's possible that had he killed the Collector, he'd have gone into some kind of malfunction loop that ultimately destroyed him.
Two things I'm surprised you completely glossed over or didn't even bring up.
First: While Worf is rescuing Will and Deanna, the last line Will says to Worf was probably the funniest in the whole series: "Is this a rescue mission or a continuation of the torture?" I was laughing my ass off.
Second: I don't believe Jack has specifically mentioned the Red Door to anyone. So when Vadic asks him if he wants to know what's behind the Red Door, I found that shocking that a) she is aware he is seeing this and b) she knows what's behind it.
because maybe he isnt the only one to experience this
Many have theorised that the power in him is a Pah'Wraith. It's possible that after the events of the Dominion war, many looked into Bajoran mythology to research the Prophets and the Pah'Wraiths. It's conceivable that a red door is an early sign of Pah'Wraith possession.
My personal theory is that Troi is actually a changeling with similar abilities to jack, and is able to find out information that only those close to you would know. Perhaps even one of the unseen overlords that is in charge of the whole conspiracy.
Another reviewer that saw the whole series said that episode 4 and 5, when rewatched, hints at exactly what is going on with Jack. Also, he said that whatever is happening with Jack has not been mentioned anywhere on UA-cam. So, that blows the sub Rosa theory out of the water. I really thought Jack was going to be like a mel Gibson 'what women want' love telepath. But I guess if there was going to be a spin off show set up around the TNG kids, that might make jack crusher a bit OP.
Just like, how they destroyed the shrike ship instead of reverse engineering it. They have to appear more like explorers, than conquerors.
The floating head, better not be gul dukat. Pah wraiths have never been to the alpha quadrant and have never had any interaction with Picard because he was never on DS9 and didn't take part in the Dominion war.
Gul dukat was the only thing no one mentioned, so it better not be gul dukat, just because reasons.
I knew I had heard Nepethe before the Mandalorian with that droid bar. I thought it was Star Trek, but wasn’t sure. Of course, the episode premiering the day after mentions it lol
I’ve seen Data snap a few Borg’s necks in his time🤔🤷🏿♂️
Gave him his first emotion...
this episode felt true to the old star trek
Love that you do Star Trek breakdowns!
Watched everyone of your Picard Season 3 vids and it has made me a subscriber. Keep up the epic work, loves all your vids!!
Amanda Plummer is brilliant in it. The tiny pause where she explains she's going to execute people?... I was *so* hoping she'd put in the rest of the line from Pulp Fiction 😀
Loved loved loved ❤❤❤❤ this episode. The Spot scenes broke me and from listening to your voice during those scenes seems like they got you in the feels as well😊
Spot Lives!...behind the Red Door😊
Seven saying "Get off my bridge!" to Vadic clearly evokes Harrison Ford in Air Force One, wouldn't you say?
Wasn’t there are also some reference to this in voyager? When Janeway says get off my bridge?
It was a good line, but it really should have been Shaw who delivered it...I don't like how they've made him more of a First Officer rather than the Captain. It's like they just flipped Seven and Shaw for some reason.
Done a million places. From Westerns "Get off my land" to Doctor Who "Get off my planet"
@@indiana_holmes It's Jeri Ryan's moment in the sun. She's earned it.
@@MarinCipollina I'm not arguing that she hasn't earned it... I'm simply stating that she's not the Captain and having them sideline Shaw like they did, just so they could have her deliver that line is a bit contrived. They could have easily had Shaw be the one to deliver that line and then hand the torch to Seven to have her enthusiastically fire all torpedos.
What a great episode this was. Of course "F*cking Solids" was an epic line to go, but I would have wished for a "deeper" endgame with this character. A little disappointed to see her go so early. I hope we will still find out what cutting of her hand to speak to "The Face" was all about, but what an incredible Character and acting. Once again "Honey Bun" outperformed herself. 10/10
I would imagine "The Face" is still going to be resolved. Just that its most powerful enforcer is gone so it will likely get more personally involved now.
I keep thinking... "Armus".... don't know why. The other popular idea is its a Pah Wraith, but no one else seems to see Jack's eyes are going red, so that's just a symbolic signal to the audience that he's "in that zone" rather than a real physical manifestation.
Watch. It'll be Weyoun as the new leader of the Dominion.
@@LoreCraft No way is it Pah Wraiths. A deep cut reference from the least popular - ratings wise - of the first 4 Trek shows? That hasn't been set up at all? That has no thematic reason?
@@DavysFlicks Heya friend,
I totally accept that criticism. Very fun to think about. Sure there's no setup, but I thought that could be part of the added shock value. They've been revisiting a lot of old plotlines. If we make enough noise, hopefully they'll get the chance for doing more of this. I'd love to know what happened to Nagilum, the Dowd, the Caretaker. There's some extremely powerful entities besides Q that they've never revisited. Who were the race that discarded Armus? What happened to Nagilum? And what about those parallel dimension beings that were kidnapping and experimenting on the crew "Schisms"? Loads to explore!
One of the more known tricks of the Prophets was to appear as those Sisko or anyone else they are speaking with knew in their life. We saw this in the first 2 episodes of Deep Space 9 called Emissary. When the Pah'Wraith reached out and contacted Kai Winn they appeared as people she knew, mainly Sisko and those on the station. We also know that Sisko during the second vision to Kai Winn which is just one of the best scenes in all of DS9. "Give us your allegiance Kai Win, Adami. Restore us to our rightful place in the Celestial Temple. Reject the false Prophets. Walk our path and embrace your own Destiny....Feel our love...The love...Of the Pah'Wraith." He opened his eyes and they glowed red. When Siskos Son was taken by Kossta Amojin who was basically the strongest of the Pah'Wraith, Jakes eyes glowed red. Same happened when Dukat was possessed. Now we look at what is happening to Jack. He is seeing red everywhere and his eyes glow red. Not to mention when he "hallucinates" he is seeing just 1 person each time or hearing just one voice and it is always someone he knows in his life. Troi senses another presence within Jack and it is clearly evil and weak. I am thinking this is not just a Pah'Wraith but Kosst Amojin himself returned. This could be what the Borg are guarding against. Perhaps the Pah'Wraith are trying to break out of whatever prison the Prophets put them in. Perhaps it is the case of a theory I read a few days ago where someone thought that what took place at the end of Season 2 of Picard was the Pah'Wraith creating their own Celestial Temple. This could also be the reason why Q died and which it is some how tied into the Pah'Wraith and the Prophets. I mean they are powerful and maybe no where near the level of the Q but maybe just Q himself was affected. This could be the big bang finale 2 parter to end Picard Season 3 on with them giving an opening for bringing back Sisko or having a huge threat like this would be a reason to bring in Frontier Day where all the ships are there anyways so lets have all currently living Star Fleet charcters to be apart of and be in one place to join in the fight against stopping the Pah'Wraith in some way. I mean perhaps I am giving these last 2 episodes to much hope but I dunno. I feel if we are going to say goodbye to Trek and it is going to involve the 3 main series that were airing basically at the same time, TNG - DS9 - VOY. Then lets just just do this thing and bring as many legacy characters back 1 last time for the proper send off. I just hope I am not let down because I have gone and built this theory up to much which I tend to do. Lmao
well if it is a Pah-Wraith, i would imagine Sisko would be coming back for the final episode - perhaps along with some other DS9 peoples.
This would be fantastic if it turns out like this. Having just rewatched the DS9 finale, I noticed that the prophets/Sisko refer to the Book of the Kosst Amojan as the key to "a door that can never be opened again". A DOOR mate, a god damned DOOR with fire behind it. If it's not Pah Wraiths, I am going to be extremely disappointed.
I love this idea. I was wondering why this season has taken over the dominion story line without bringing back any of the original cast from DS9. I mean worf was for both tng and DS9 but why not bring back the next best thing to odo to understanding the changelings.. Kira? If you can give tuvak a cameo…
I’m so sick of vadic/Amanda Shaw. Don’t like the character don’t like the actor.
They have made the whole jack crusher mystery so big it better be a good one or it’s gonna be anticlimactic .
I’m hoping they bring back sisko somehow tie in with the pah wraights and the prophets and voila have a whole new show called ‘sisko’
Picard handing them ver the baton to sisko. Again
@@a.r11384 Yeah, lets be honest. It will be the borg again
Has anyone else noticed the similarities in situations or words between different sci-fi series this whole past year?
Between Kenobi and SNW, or Andor and Prodigy etc.
For instance, this week. Having not mentioned it all season, Riker and Troi talk about their planet of Nepénthe?
But in The Mandalorian, they explain that a type of oil compound that droids "drink" is called... Nepénthe..
Captain Worf changed into a standard Starfleet Uniform displaying 4 pips.
Worf had 4 pips during the table scene. He must be a captain
He had command of the Enterprise E before joining StarFleet Intelligence. You're not going to stick a Commander in charge of the flagship of the fleet.
This season makes me want to watch all of the Berman era Star Trek again.
Ryan, were you getting a bit emotional when talking about Spot? That was an absolute standout moment in the Ep and I felt the exact same way! Another fantastic episode breakdown
Every episode seems to confirm the Borg are involved. The series starts with Beverly's distress call "Hellbird", a Borg virus. Shaw says Picard was "the only Borg so deadly they gave him a name". The floating head says "We Must Have The Boy", that changelings are imperfect, humans separate. Jack hears many voices, can control people, talk in their heads, see through their eyes, like a Borg Queen. When Jack goes to the bridge with a fake bomb he says to Vadic: "There's No Point In Resisting!" Either this is about the Borg or it's a massive and constant misdirect, which would be very annoying.
I’ve been thinking along these same lines… also, Vadic made a comment about how fitting it was that Seven was there to witness this with Jack.
If it is, it’ll be a huge let down. The Borg haven’t been done to death and are boring and redundant at this point. Something new would be far more preferable then YET ANOTHER Borg tie in. Ugh. Let it go already.
@@CarieHarling Exactly I caught that too! Jack is the first Borg/Human hybrid and he has the ability to interface with and control organics. Perhaps the alter identiy of Lucutis is somewhere in subspace. There are so many references like the vines as connections and the voices, so many voices. If it is not the borg they intentionally wanted us to think that so we could be shocked by some other scenario he he. I hope Seven and Data all have some scene where they take over the Borg and have some crazy powerplay with Jack. We still don't know what the Galactic event was in the final episode of Season 2. Also I'm remembering the borg at one point wanted to release a virus into humany to assimilate them over centuries. Maybe that happened and Jack can interface with everyone who was infected. So exciting!
The Borg have been overdone, but S2 of Picard is to blame more than anything else as it was ridiculous and exhausting. The Federation became space Nazis and Picard became space Hitler and is about to kill the last Borg Queen but they go back in time so the Borg can become good and stop the space Nazi Federation and help good Picard stop evil space Picard/Hitler from ever happening? Whoever decided that this was a good story was a total moron. They're responsible for an idiotic story, ruining the heroes, and making it difficult to use the Borg again.
At this point, it seems obvious, yes.
7 of 9's "Fire" was a fist pump and "YES" moment for me.
I'm now convinced more than ever that the Borg Queen is on the other side of that door. Some portion of the assimilation process variegated from the normal process to fashion Lacutus worked its way down to Picard's very DNA. It managed to hide in the myriad of junk DNA to skip detection until it could find a vector for promulgation into a new sleeper agent...at which point it ran headlong into the Picard mutant ability, Irumodic Syndrome. As for how Jack can control people, the sheer amount of Borg tech that's also promulgated throughout Starfleet means that almost everyone has at one point or another picked up an inert snippet of a nanoprobe that's just waiting to be switched on...
Everything points to the Borg.
Great recap!
12-11-PICARD-ALPHA-TANGO-75 is Terry Matalas birthday (Dec 11th, 1975). How do you keep missing this? :P
A "darkness that surrounds him that's ancient and weak." They have really come up with a good mystery. I'm worried they won't be able to deliver on a satisfying conclusion. There's nothing new under the sun; many time we can figure out where they're going with a story, but this one has me stumped. Good luck.
There was a lot of emotional swings here as a casual viewer who’s aware of the past canon. Laughs and tears both came out here.
Probably my favorite episode ofStar Trek post DS9
Liked the Close Encounters reference with a close up of the lock with light and smoke
the best thing about this season ... the music!!! just awesome
Missed the Titan flyby music, after Data cracks his neck, matching the opening Enterprise scene in Nemesis.
The opening song of the season was "I don't want to set the world on fire" and Shaw says Picard set the world on fire as Locutus. Now there's fire behind the door.
Shaw is the new Emissary. “You exist here.”
When Seven yelled "Get off my bridge!" it gave me Air Force One vibes.
Great video🎉
By far the Star Trek music over the past 60+ years is fantastic. Alexander Courage’s original theme; Jerry Goldsmith’s timeless theme for TMP and later TNG, especially First Contact (which starts the credits at the end). There were quite a few others, all STAR TREK music are remote drops. Once you hear them you stay with whatever is showing.
Of course Troi can see the darkness is surrounding them all.
Have you seen the dismal lighting on the Titan?
paying homage to Discovery 😋
One thing I saw in the episode that I didnt hear mentioned is that worf had 4 pips on his collar when they were all sat around the observation room table.
Not really a hidden easter egg, but a nice subtle way of letting the audience know that worf is currently holding the rank of captain.
I have to go back and see it cause I thought worf left starfleet
I believe there is apocrypha that has Worf was the captain of the Enterprise E after Nemesis.
In Star Trek: Picard's era, Worf (Michael Dorn) replaced Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) as Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-E - a surprising choice that Starfleet Command initially argued against. The backstory of the CBS All-Access sequel series to Star Trek: The Next Generation established that Picard was promoted to Admiral in order to lead the Federation's rescue mission to save the Romulan people when their star went supernova in the 2380s. Worf was serving as Picard's First Officer so the chain of command made him the natural choice to be promoted to the big chair, but Starfleet had serious reservations about the Klingon.
Worf was the first Klingon to join Starfleet and he had a colorful career where he starred in two Star Trek series, The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, as well as all four TNG movies. The Klingon debuted in the premiere episode of TNG, "Encounter at Farpoint", as a bridge officer but he was soon promoted to Security Chief after the death of Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby). Lieutenant Worf remained the U.S.S. Enterprise-D's Security Chief for 6 years and he was promoted to Lt. Commander in Star Trek Generations. After the Enterprise-D was destroyed, Worf joined Deep Space Nine as Strategic Operations Officer, where he served under Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks). Worf also married Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell), who was murdered by Gul Dukat (Marc Alaimo) at the end of DS9 season 6. Worf briefly became Chancellor of the Klingon Empire by killing Gowron (Robert O'Reilly) but he passed the Chancellorship to General Martok (J.G. Hertzler). At the conclusion of the Dominion War, Worf became the Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire but he soon returned to Starfleet and the Enterprise-E in Star Trek: Nemesis.
Vadic going "fucking solids" was gold haha
Finally an episode that gives the real Star Trek hero a decent chance to save the day. All hail Spot!
I'm so crushing on Worf like back in the day
I love hearing a poetry citing Klingon!
When vadic was talking to jack on the bridge she told seven " its fitting YOU are here to witness this" and asking jack about "so many voices" that he hears.. Did the borg queen hide herself or something borg in picards disease and he passed it on to jack i wonder. I cant tell if that voice is the queens or not..
Can not be borg. It is RED and not Green behind that door.
@@Llyrana7 Unless it is an alter borg ego like Locutis or some spin off of the original collective. There has to be some connection between Seven and Jack for that exact reason @DynoD said. It was too specific to call Seven out as her being fitting to be there!
@@newearthwarrior6302 Imagine the borg assimilating Arhums?
@@Llyrana7 Bwahahahahahaha.
Your videos are beyond impressive. Very very entertaining
Just adding a comment saying how much I appreciate your content and that my nerd heart loves this community
The beam of light coming through the keyhole at the end reminded me a lot of First Contact (maybe tng, too, its been a while) when one of the Borg laser sights activated
Similarly, it made me think particularly of Locutus' eye-laser.
I know offering the Borg, to the fandom would be like shooting fish in a barrel, for the final TNG season. Mentioning admiral Janeway and throwing out hints or red herrings about the pah wraiths could set up cameos for Janeway, gul dukat and Benjamin sisko. That would be the perfect send off for the entire TNG DS9 and voyager era.
Data giving his memories to Lore reminded me of the Red Dwarf episode Thanks For The Memory, where Lister gives the hologram Rimmer the memory of an ex-girlfriend. Rimmer wakes up changed and takes on some of Listers personality traits but it unravels when he starts to analyse the finer details of it. It's very fun!
the bridge emergency evacuation hatch is a call back to the TNG episode S1E2 "the naked now"
Was that the first F bomb ever on ST?... my eight year old self watching the originals back in the early 70's gasped and giggled both at the same time!
I don't want this show to end!
Me too enjoy it because this wont happen ever again brought back so many memories
All. Good. Things.
excellent breakdown.
Thanks Ryan and Doug👍🏼💕
THANKS for this!!!! (Lal also used contractions.) WOW, actual TAS and "Sherlock" references!!! JOY!!
In all the years he 'lived; Data accumulated many more memories and Lore ever had. In his need to be spiteful and evil, he took everything overwriting himself. He became like 85 percent Data and just a bit of Lore combined with the other memories Lal, B4 and Soong. He's still in there, but has no control.
