Makes sense why Godzilla was so mad in Egypt, he possibly had some level of respect and trust for Kong since he went to the Hollow Earth, therefore keeping the balance. Kong roaring after he arrived in Egypt probably sounded like he was the first wave of an invasion against the surface world. We see Godzilla preparing to face a powerful threat, so it’s possible he assumed Kong was that threat, or a part of it. Imagine finding out the person that saved you once, is against you. And Godzilla doesn’t trust easy, he normally leaves death in his wake, but Kong was one of the few he let live.

Godzilla was saving Kong as he needed him to take scar king and shimo down. I don’t think he meant to make it look like he was returning the favour considering he was getting his ass beat by shimo and clearly was in pain. He was most likely just saving Kong so Kong could go kill scar king while Godzilla focused on shimo. They both are the bravest and 2nd strongest duo.
He wasn’t technically getting beat. He was withstanding the frostbite from shimo and it was becoming overwhelming so that’s when Godzilla stepped in
