When I was a ramp agent I learned what that cut out on the flap is. It’s called a “shark bite”. Sometimes the engines create enough heat over the years it will start that corner of the flap to deform. So the solution is to cut it off. It works just fine and it doesn’t affect the way it will fly.

I honestly love the sound of the CFM56-7B’s. The sound of the jet blast and fuel mixing in is amazing. It’s like a fire breathing dragon.

You can hear the APU powering up each engine after pushback.

Why did the 737-800 flaps sound while the 2nd Engine is Starting?

I wonder why you don’t see the ailerons move when she banks at 22:36? I thought the aileron should lift upwards.

Hopefully everyone blows over by then! I have a few trips planned this spring/summer and I really don't want to have to rebook them for later.

I had to deal with this back in July 2020 when I was flying to Portland on Southwest when covid hit

They had to cut that part cause it was deforming due to heat

I've been noticing these in a few flight videos and apparently a corner of the flap is cut off on older planes when wear and tear is shown. It's FAA approved and it keeps the flaps in service for a little bit longer before more maintenance is needed.

The plane may still fly with the missing part of the flap however.

It’s informally called a “shark bite”. Sometimes the engines create enough heat over the years it will start that corner of the flap to deform. So the solution is to cut it off. It works just fine and it doesn’t affect the way it will fly. The FAA approves it.
