  • Our baby is late. He was suppose to be born on May 21st 2020, but after visiting the hospital it appears he has yet to drop so he's not ready to come out yet. We were told we have to wait until maybe the end of the month...but little did we know our son would be born 4 days later from filming this video and our new journey as a family would start. Things have been quite hectic but we're finally catching up on sleep and getting these videos out. Expect to see more videos soon.

In my home country, and in Africa in general, the new mom goes back to her parents' house for a month so that they can help her out to adjust and take care of the baby. Even if they're in another country, the new mom just goes there. And the husband visits regularly (every day if they're in the same city). I live in Canada and my African friends who gave birth have had their moms coming over for several months after the birth. So it's pretty custom for us. It helps so much, everyone should do it.
I'm happy to see that he came through eventually. I wish you all the best, strength, patience and teamwork 😁

It's the same here in the Philippines. Usually the couple with the newborn will move into the house of the wife's parents for the first 3 months or so. And if the couple lives abroad, the wife's parents (or at least her mother) will visit for as long as possible to teach the new mom how to care for the baby, and to help out with the housework.

Oh my goodness I feel for you guys. I was due with my baby on May 29, 2020 and he didn’t arrive until June 11 when I was practically at 42 weeks; he was 10lbs 10oz and had to be delivered via c-section because he was not fitting through my pelvis otherwise. It is nerve wracking when baby does not arrive on the due date, but just try to relax and he will arrive when he is ready.

Chinese in Malaysia, take 2 months off after birth, we called it “confinement”. It’s for the mother to rest and learn the baby timetable/schedule, familiar when they eat sleep poo and learn how to shower the baby and keep the baby comfortable. During the first 2 months, the mother have a strict diet, no soya sauce because it will deepen any scar colour, no drinking water but soup that made up of red dates and goji berries. We also have body massage to “push” our internal organs back in place :)
Congrats and have a great time taking care of the baby! Rule of thumb, sleep when the baby sleep

It's mostly an East Asian tradition for women to be taken care of by their family for the first month. New Chinese and Vietnamese moms are also supposed to stick to a very strict diet to help with recovery. They're usually encouraged not to leave the house at all for the first month except for necessary doctor visits. I'm Asian American and I adhered to the tradition with both my boys. I would cheat every now and then with the diet when my mom wouldn't be over lol but I mostly adhered to it. Good luck you guys! Wishing you a safe and healthy delivery, Maiko! Can't wait to see the baby!

Thats really interesting about the Japanese women. I was raised on a farm and married a rancher. We had six kids....two girls and four boys. Our custom was that I had NO help. Neither my mom or mom-in-law helped me. Just my husband was there to help. My husband and I work on the ranch (cattle), so I got no maternity leave. We took the kids with us around the ranch. We used a pack and play for the kids to sleep in, and took them on horse back with us to move cattle. I would have LOVED help.

I'm from Australia when I gave birth I had to look after myself and the baby and still cook clean and do everything I normally do ( except for go to work) - when I had my second I had to look after the new baby my son and still do everything ... mothers don't really come to stay or anything like that, once you get into a routine it's fine - I am glad I got to stay home and do that but I would have loved someone to look after me as well :)

There's a saying in my province that when a pregnant lady didn't ate like lunch or dinner is that the baby will need another more day

You guys are going to be great parents! Seems extreme that as the father you won't be able to attend the birth. Clinic is being hardcore. I live in California and when I had my second child I was home in less than 24 hours and had my husband for 2 days then he was back at work and I was on my own caring for myself, my new baby, my 6 yr old. Cooking, grocery shopping. Sounds like Japan has a nicer system ha! Best of luck you guys will do great.

I’ve heard you can walk along gutters/curbs - one foot on the sidewalk and one on the road. Apparently it gets baby engaged and moving down!

I have had 2 kids. My first was with an epidural and that was magical. And my man was there for the birth. The second was without epidural (my contractions came too fast and the anesthesiologist didnt get to me quick enough). And my man was not present (he was watching our oldest). And honestly, even though that one was the most painful of the 2 births, it too was magical.
