Zacchaeus’ Sycamore Tree is one of the top tourist attractions in Jericho due to the role it played in a famous New Testament event. Visitors travel to Jericho, about 10 km north of the Dead Sea in the Palestinian Authority lands of the West Bank to see this ancient tree.
The tree stands at a major intersection in Jericho. Although the tree may not be the same one Zacchaeus climbed local tradition has named this Zacchaeus tree. Tests carried out on the tree have shown that it is over 2,000 years old and it stands in the same setting as the Biblical sycamore tree.
The Biblical Story of Zacchaeus’ Sycamore Tree
Luke 19:1-10 tells how Jesus entered Jericho accompanied by crowds of well-wishes. The rich tax collector Zacchaeus was there and he too wanted to get a look at this famous new spiritual leader. However, he was too short to see over the crowds of people. Zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed up a sycamore-fig tree where he was sure to see Jesus as he went by.
When Jesus reached the tree he looked up and called out to Zacchaeus by name asking him to join him. Jesus told Zacchaeus that he would stay at his house that night. The crowd was not pleased and began to talk among themselves saying that Jesus would be staying at the house of a sinner. Zacchaeus was rich, collected taxes for the occupying Romans, and probably over-collected on occasion. For this reason, the people of Jericho disliked him and considered him a sinner.
Zacchaeus then stood before Jesus and offered half his possessions as a gift to the poor and to compensate anyone he had cheated by four times the amount of money. Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house as this man too is a son of Abraham.”
The story teaches several lessons. We see Zacchaeus going to great lengths to see Jesus, even climbing a tree which was rather undignified for the short government official. Jesus sees Zacchaeus’ interest in the emissary of G-d. The story is another example of Jesus reaching out to a sinner and offering salvation.
    Luke 19
    New International Version
    Zacchaeus the Tax Collector
19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Zacchaeus was a wee little man, a wee little man was he! So nice to see this tree we sing of and never had seen. Much like us, Jesus reaches out to the sinner and those in great spiritual need!

Zahi Shaked, Very grateful for the historical experience. Zacchaeus strove to be with Jesus. For because of Zacchaeus' short stature, a crowd prevented him. Whether in fact it is the tree or not, the important thing is that we strive to be with Jesus

I think that not only did Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus, he also wanted to see his glory while everyone else just wanted something from Jesus' hands. Not only did he wanted to see Jesus and his glory that he kept hearing about, but he was also willing to make a deal with Jesus because Zacchaeus knew he was a sinful man and he humbly and sincerely acknowledged this in the very presence of his Savior. That's why Jesus said to the crowd that was following him,
“Today _salvation_ has come to this house, because this man, too, is a _son of Abraham,_ for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

The Sycamore tree looks like it could use a bit of water...one thing that was so informative of you earlier video in Gethsemane was the comparison of the olive trees--even the one that had been planted for 8 years was so small--it takes thousands of years for a tree in Isreal to become as large as this Sycamore tree...dts/usa

Amos was a "gatherer" of sycomore fruit. Translates a "PUNCTURER"..A puncture in each fruit needed to let air in and kill a parasite of the fruit
Amos 7:14 - King James Bible
Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
