It's not the ink fault. I had the same problem in the gold plating with my Maiora Impronte after inking it only once with Diamine Winter Spice.

Good to know. I guess it is something wrong with Maiora's nibs.

The nib looks a little small for the dimensions of the pen. I don't know about who was first but Nino Marino y Ciro Matrone were part of Delta. And in the end of 2021 Nino Marino acquired the rights to the Delta Pen Company. Curiously I haven't seen a lot of reviews of The "New" Delta pens in UA-cam.
    Thank you for the video.
PS. I have Platinum Citrus black in my Lamy 2000 F... so far everything has been fine in 4 months 🤞

Thanks Jorge! The new Delta pens are interesting. The original DV pens had prettier nibs but other than that I am not sure how they are different. I think the new Delta pens use Jowo instead of Bock nibs. I also think the newer models are offered at a lower price point...for the DV model anyway.
Glad to hear you have had no problems with Platinum Citrus Black. I will try it again in another pen (probably will be something more affordable just to be safe).

I have a few old Delta pens that I’ve always loved dearly. Including the oversized orange/black Dolce Vita that you like so much. I prefer the Bock gold nibs they used in the past. I’m not buying any new Delta pens after their comeback recently. The switch to Jowo being one reason why.
I’ve often looked at but passed on buying any Maiora. The designs, material/finish and generic Jowo nibs don’t float my boat at all.
I like the size and girth (indeed the shape wide, pretty vermeil cap band, too) on the pen you showed here. The color & finish is somewhat meh. And I share your dejection with the nib.
On another note, Pineider is another that I’ve just not been able to like enough to want to buy one of their pens.
The only pens I’m going to buy this year is another Scribo and a Santini.
I just saw an Omas Paragon (oversized), black with sterling cap, 18k Medium nib, mint, never inked pen listed at $700.
Do you feel it would be a good buy? I’m so tempted, but I have misgivings about the steep price.

Hi Sajjad, Thank you for the comment! What is it about Jowo nibs that you don't like? I will say when it comes to higher-end gold nibs, I do favor Bock but for steel nibs I can't say I have a strong preference either way.
Pineider is an interesting one. Their older pens were actually pretty nice. I think they were made by Stipula. I had an ebonite one and it was a quality pen though a bit plain in design. I bought a new Pineider Avatar and returned it because the fit and finish was so bad. I don't know who makes their new pens but they don't look great and the quality doesn't appear to be there.
I was able to get a Scribo Feel on for review purposes and the nibs are excellent. The one that I had temporarily had issues with corrosion on the trim though. Not sure if this is common or not. Santini makes a great pen. I would like to have another one at some point.
Regarding the Paragon, that price is on the higher-side but if the condition is good and you like the pen then it could be worth it. Do you know what year it was made? On the nib is the height of the "O" taller than the "mas"? If so you are looking at a Bock nib instead of an OMAS nib. Both are great but the OMAS nib is likely the better of the two.
I would recommend looking at penboard.de and tenpen.it if you haven't already.

@@BlakesBroadcast Hi again, Blake. Many thanks for the long, interesting and helpful reply. My posted comments are anyway invariably long. 🙂
I don’t buy pens with Jowo steel nibs at all anymore. And their gold nibs are not bad, but there’s a certain uniformly bland, boring character to these smooth writing nibs that I find very underwhelming and a let-down. My 14k and 18k Bock gold nibs are a lot nicer, all round. I even prefer Bock’s steel nibs to Jowo’s.
I haven’t really seen too many ‘old’ Pineider. I was earlier mainly referring to their newest pens like the Avatar and the rest. They seem to try a little too hard to look stylish, original and innovative. But they just don’t move me at all.
Scribo is really the living reincarnation of Omas. At least the closest anybody could dream of capturing the soul and allure of OMAS. Mainly for the truly swell nibs. I have two fantastic Scribo Feel pens and borrowed a Piuma from somebody for a test before deciding to buy one myself. I absolutely must get my first Santini soon. And possibly another Stipula. I’d keenly await your review of the Scribo Feel.
The Paragon I saw is only mentioned as belonging in the early-‘90s. The engraving on the nib, the ‘O’ is the same height as the ‘MAS’. So, that means it is an original Omas 18k nib? Cool to know if that were so. I have another celluloid Omas Paragon and a white (iceberg) 360. This faceted black resin and sterling cap, and the nib are very seductive. Thanks a lot for the further reference links. I’ll definitely check both of them out.

@@sajjadhusain4146 Hi Sajjad, I will have to do some more direct testing between Bock and Jowo steel nibs.
Early 90s and small "O" 99% sure that is an OMAS nib. The Bock and late OMAS nibs are very similar but the large "O" is always Bock. The OMAS nibs sometimes had a deeper engraving and the tipping shape was a bit more flat on the OMAS.
One thing to consider is that the furniture on the sterling cap is not sterling (not sure if yours has gold or silver-colored trim) so I would be very careful about polishing that because the trim on these pens is delicate.

@@BlakesBroadcast Thanks a ton for the kind feedback. The pen I saw has the sterling cap adorned with a golden clip and wide golden cap band. And it is listed as never-inked/mint condition. It is constantly on my mind.
Blake, I found a very old (2014) blog post review you wrote on
your beautiful black resin Paragon. It is a discouraging read, overall. Mainly for the troublesome issues you experienced with your pen. It makes me seriously pause again before committing to buy the $700 pen I want.

@@sajjadhusain4146 Hi Sajjad, OMAS pens are great when you get a good one and can be a real pain when you don't. They made some of the best looking pens of all time and they have fantastic nibs but finding a good one has been hit or miss for me. The older pens they made were really good quality and I've had very good luck with OMAS pens from the 1950s and earlier. I hate to make this kind of generalization but if you want an Italian pen there is going to be a bit a gamble unless you buy an Aurora.

I second every single comment you made about this pen! Color (not exactly like in the ad), chipped plating (nope, not the ink fault), horrible nib engraving, useless rolling clip and WAY too pricey. I have three Maiora and i actually love them: Oroblu M, Oroarancio EF, and one Aventus EF. I like that the section is in the same resin and i use the Alpha as eyedropper without issues. My Oroblu is #0068 and they clearly had some early issues with the machining and polishing but after 2 years the nib is very smooth and rather wet. Italian pens are often hit or miss so i rarely buy them at retail price 😊

Thanks for your comment! Glad to hear from a Maiora fan. I would like to try one of their higher-end offerings at some point. I think with a nice sale the Maiora could be a good option if you want a large, pretty, and solid-feeling pen.

    1. Data point: I've used Citrus Black in a few pens without incident. Maybe try it in a preppy or something. (and hard to believe that Platinum would make an ink that eats nibs)
    2. I don't understand the point of putting silver under gold.

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  9 місяців тому

Thanks for the comment! To your points:
      1. I dont regularly use iron gall inks so I figured it must be the ink but to your point Platinum usually knows what they are doing...they have been around long enough.
      2. Steel is a good choice for a non-precious metal is it doesn't easily corrode.

Thanks for the review interesting pen, i like the new Delta DV & i think there a little cheaper. even the Majohn M800 for under $50.with a bock nib.any way food for thought 😉👍🇦🇺

Thanks for the comment. I will have to consider a newer Delta. Bock and Jowo nibs in their standard form a not at all expensive to buy. I would be curious to know how much the more premium customized Bock nibs like the ones Scribo uses actually cost. Same for something like Otto Hutts Jowo nibs.

Good section, beautiful cap ring, but in fountain pens it's all about the nib. It looks a bit too small for my taste. Interesting review.

It's a full sized #6 nib but because the pen is so fat it looks a bit off.

100% agree. The nibs are hugely disappointing. I quite like the body. You only have to look at the nib through a loupe to see what a catastrophe they are. I have a couple of these because I like the body and balance and they were discounted. I have replaced every nib except for the broad which writes very well. On the extra fine, the nib slit wasn't even close to centered. The scratchy-ness is not "feedback" it's just low quality. I spent hours tuning it. Now I have a "B-" medium nib. As they say in the UK, this pen is "all coat and no knickers." Go for an Aurora. It's worth the money.

Delta, Maiiora, and Nettuno are the companies of Nino Marino, the genius designer. Leonardo comes from others who have copied Nino's vision.

he has qwnership of 3 companies that have classic and iconic designs. everything that is commonplace to Italian pens can be traced to Nino. Orange and Black combination, think DolceVita comes from Nino. He is 1 owner of a pen company that you can talk to directly.@@BlakesBroadcast
