  • Ohio's subzero temperatures don't stop this bicycling commuter from hitting the road and riding over 30 miles each day to and from work.

I'm an engineer also and have been riding my bike to work for 15 years all year round in Canada. Coldest day was -25.

@@lotsoflaughs1175 not really, once it gets ice on it, it doesn't instulate anymore.

@@sparkmadd_IZM True. He may have a really big, bushy beard but still it can only protect for so long.

I bike commuted regularly 13 miles each way in very hilly Bellingham, WA. for about 15+ years. I now work from home in Albuquerque NM. and miss it very much. Keep on trucking!

Strength, bro! I'm commuting too by bike. In the most polluted area in Belgium: Antwerp Harbor. My itinerary is Boechout - Antwerp Harbor, some 23 km (46 each day). Seeing this it made me realize that cycling is kind of poetic. A good frame of mind: that's exactly it! A good frame of mind with extra thick tyres, ice on the beard and staying healthy: that's art with a little a but o so important. I like your style!

i know how this feels. i grew my beard out for this brutal winter. rode my bike nearly every day this winter. once it get around 10 degrees or below, thats where the pain comes. come into work and my face is covered in ice. i found that a DH helmet and goggles keep most of the frigid air out and its more comfortable(and safe) to ride like that. although a fat bike is too much... even in the snow.

He should have a full face helmet, a balvaclava, goggles and warmer socks.

Balaclava and 👓 please. No need to get cold eye. He'll enjoy even more.
I commute 1-2 days a week. 12 mile each qay. 45 min ride, but I found that using glasses really help a lot. Even early morning.

How do you keep your glasses from fogging with a full face mask? I put soap on them before every ride, but they just fog up, when I am wearing a mask. Any tips?

I enjoy riding my bike, & consider myself hardcore especially since its difficult being modest with it even when I'm not used to it & know I'll pay for it. But, IF I was an engineer, I darn sure would put my ideas to good use doing something about that cold! I'd create a whole bike wind breaker or something. I can't stand pain, & I can't stand polluting my body either, so I like to be Right. Don't suffer needlessly, though I do admire the determination not to let anything interfere with the enjoyment of biking. But I don't find freezing inspirational. SW Florida. Now that's inspirational, with often years of 9 months 78-82deg weather, 3 wks winter, 2 mos mild summers & cool evenings. If I'm in a bus zone I can throw my bike on the front rack and transfer free county wide for $3 a day. Or $30 a month pass. Nobody else does that, & people on both sides think I'm weird riding & bussing when I can drive. Yea, but I feel good, and I feel free.
