The 16 Personalities' 4th Function Appearing as the Angel on Their Shoulder

  • So what are these “cognitive functions”?
If you dive a little deeper into the “16 personalities” theory, you will find the 8 cognitive functions, which stem back to the original psycho-analytical studies of Carl Jung that brought us MBTI. The 4 letters of each type are actually a means of decoding their unique cognitive function stack.
Each type leads with a specific function in their 1st slot, the opposite of which is their 4th, or “inferior” function. In this video, each type is being spoken to by their 4th function, who is trying to help them identify a blind spot that they might have, due to that particular function being "inferior".
Understanding our functions allows us to decipher what the natural tendencies and preferences of our brains are, and to understand that they are fundamentally different from others’. MBTI teaches us that being well aware of our 4th function, and all of our functions, enables us to know where our blind spots are, as well as what we need to develop in order to actualise our potential and become a more well-rounded version of ourselves.
I have not made a video about the cognitive functions yet, but thankfully, many other awesome UA-camrs have! If you are interested in learning more, below are introductory videos from Frank James, LiJo and Aimee Y respectively:

I carry paper tissues just for when I find myself seated across a stranger bawling their eyes out in the train. It has happened. More than once.
Helps when my cider bottle spills over when opened in the train as well.

@@drawingspider7798 I also carry tissues everywhere. My son has always been a dramatic creature, so his presence in my life has taught me to keep tissues close by.

Well it depens on the person, hopefully they start talking and I just listen, get the situation clear in my head and try to help (or at least get all the arguments that possibly will make them feel mentally better), sometimes it's someone who needs just a good listener, then arguments and simple conversation may be unwanted, then I recommend hugs, they can last long and people's reaction to physical touch is rather positive than negative in most of the times (unless it's someone with low Fe, then it may be some jokes, starting new topic or dead silence and with low Fi, it depens on how situation is serious but when they burst in tears I think that silence and practical help like wipes, water and alone time if they need, if not, I don't think they will talk about their problems or they will make it sound like something not that important) but those are just my observations as a INTP trying to survive in the group of friends with their problems.

      I found it very relatable.
The TiFe axis makes you understanding of the person in need and I often feel _obligated_ to comfort them in some way, but the analysis (Ti) for the certainty of something unfamiliar(the Fe) and creativity for how I should go about doing it (Ne) kicks in and makes me super hesitant. Not enough Se to act on impulse and go ahead and try to comfort them on the first idea I get.

I have put in a lot of personal work to not react like this to other people's emotions, and I'm still worse than the average person. I am great at analyzing and discussing people's feelings, but I'm never comfortable with showing my emotions in the way that other people do. I feel the empathy, I know how they feel and I'm feeling their feelings. The problem is that when I feel feelings, I don't show them so I don't know how to force myself to show the feelings that I'm feeling to effectively comfort people most of the time.

Yes I agree as an ENFP it helps explain why when I get stressed I become hyper organised like it’s my brains way of sorting out all the crap I have been putting off for weeks/months/years and depending on how disorganised it is depends on how strong it is. I’ve just come out of an Si grip, and I was like this super organised person, who wanted to no plans to change ect and it’s like my and just turned itself off like it knew I needed to sort exams and stuff out And it was my Brains way of being like you need to do this (with help of my fi saying I’m gonna let people down ect). But that’s in Si grip mostly it just makes sure I don’t get too carried away and organise tedious stuff like put cups downstairs. But then again my ISTJ mother does that for me too as she has Si Dom and yeah everything has a place that need to be there so my Si also makes sure that everything is in it’s place assigned by her, to make her not stress. But yeah all my functions are super useful. Like I love my Ne, but using Ne 24/7 would just be a mess I need something to get me on track and know where to draw the line and when to be like we have organise stuff, we can experience all the new stuff after.

This skit reminds me of how much I love my INTP brother’s hidden Fe. Once, when we were in high school, he and I went to a winter camp. As an INTJ, I had decided that I needed to be brave, step outside of my shell, and try to make friends. I was unusually optimistic. But the girls treated me like a freak. I was devastated. It had taken so much courage to try and be extroverted for once, but they pushed me out.
I hadn’t brought any money for the camp store, but my brother had. One of the nights when I was feeling the worst, we happened to run into each other. For some reason, he felt the urge to give me his popcorn. It was like he knew that I was feeling outcast, and the simple (and unusual on his part) gesture made me realize that I still belonged and that other people cared about my feelings (I was very new to the concept that emotions exist). It seems silly, but his unusual way of reading my distressed signals and reaching out unconventionally meant so much to me.
INTPs, it really does mean a lot when you’re brave and try to harmonize with other’s emotions. Thanks, bro.

I don't know what the INFJ shoulder angel was talking about. Karaoke is perfect to get to know other people: He's singing "Who let the dogs out"? -> Clearly he must be a dog lover! He knows the lyrics of every ballad that is sung? -> Of course he is interested in the deeper meaning of things! He shortly looked at you while singing a song about love (which is super seldom since there are next to no songs about love)? -> Surely he is falling in love with you! And there is definitely a good reason why hasn't texted yet. Combining all those things the only logical conclusion is that the wedding will be in June!

And by the time my extroverted feeling makes me to go to her aid, some ESFP or ENFP does the job and my brain is like, "nevermind"

You know... two of my best friends are INTP. One especially is very much this way. As an ENFP, I love that about her, though.
I think the reason why is because she doesn't just give me the cookie cutter solution for what I am struggling with. She gives very thoughtful and insightful responses after I have spilled my guts to her.
As an ENFP, my emotions are very deep and very strong, and very personal to me. I struggle with telling others how I feel.
However, when I can't take it any more and am stuck in the emotions... I seek out those in my inner circle to help me navigate what I am hung up on.
My two INTP best friends, my INTJ husband and my ISTP friend are extremely helpful with this... they bring reason and logic to the chaos without dismissing my feelings or giving me trite platitudes.
I appreciate that about them so very much.

rant alert: i live with an INTJ and dude, if i could hammer it enough in her head, i would: it’s not ”nothing” unless the person talking is extremely shallow and doesn’t wanna be themselves(which is rarely the case with the people she talks to, me included). if not, whatever someone talks about tells you a lot about them, their interests, views and it can be a sign of a love language as well - the possibilities go on.
like, i get that your own stuff is important and that you have many great ideas, but as for keeping & getting people in your life who trust you, are there for you and will actually want to do ”your stuff” together gladly, it’s time for most INTJs to get off of their high horse of what is boring/predictable/unimportant and what is not, and start listening even the mundane stuff. i’m an ENTP so i can adapt out of respect & understanding to her needs, but boy is it exhausting when i want to just talk and hang out and we don’t have a clear goal and set of steps to fulfill. if anyone ever happens to bring out a happy lightweight topic just for pure entertainment and bonding, INTJs i know always ignore the need and go for their own instead, usually making the situation serious or even uncomfortable.
but… i get that it’s part of the human nature & about being self-centered, and that is an INTJ way to show it. all types can be shit, but as this is something i have a long time of lived-in experience with, i had to vent a bit. so not a direct attack to you or whatevs - the INTJ i was talking about is usually quick to think every critisism or a neutral-to-negative comment, even when not directed at her, is indeed about her.
anyways, i’m out. great video indeed!!

But it’s mostly my Fi and Si working together with like “you’ll let people down” ect (like i had exams a couple weeks ago and I was in Si grip for like 2 weeks, it was weird.)

    • @dearkristin
      @dearkristin  3 роки тому +11

@@viebevanlangendonck1698 fair confusion! The fi skits in and of themselves were distinguishable in that the fi angels focused on the person's own feelings and passions, as opposed to the Fe angel who focused on the feelings of the people in the room. In the ENFP sketch, the fi said something that an fe would say for sure, but the fi angel appeals to the fact that the ENFPs housemates have made it into her "Fi heart", so to speak. So because she cares for them internally, that motivates her to get up, as opposed to an Fe user who would be more inclined to do that for just anyone.

ENFP so accurate. When we can't self-motivate to do the right things for our sake/ their own sake, we know bringing the feelings/ well-being of others into the equation will give us just the right amount of guilt and sense of duty to take care of our everyday trite responsibilities -- i.e. the things everyone else seems to do naturally because they're better people than us lol. Also, splitting our inner monologue into multiple perspectives as if they were separate entities, very relatable. I love this channel and I also love Frank James' channel but you (Dear Kristin) tend to tap into the bits of ENFP that are most relatable to me personally. Cheers!

So first of all, how did you just nail an ENTP's inner voice? I didn't think anyone could do that! Even an ENTP!
I just found your channel and I must say, you are both scarily accurate and hilarious! I especially love the scenarios that have mbti's interacting. I thought I'd throw out a few video ideas for you:
Finally convinced to become a 'new man!'
Trying out a new hobby for the first time
Facing down their deepest, scariest internal fears
What they would invent to make life 'easier'
Trying to win a debate they're passionate about
Making 3 wishes to a genie
The one thing that could cause a mental breakdown
Of everyone could hear each other's thoughts
Everyone's role in a horror movie
The greatest thing they could accomplish in their healthiest mental state
Cooking a meal for a date they're nervous about
Having a one-on-one with God, what they would ask/say
    How they finally find love
    Learning to drive
Everyone on a camping trip together
    Trying to run a company
Going to buy a new car
    Getting their first job
    As a child
    As an old person
    Dealing with family members
    Figuring out zoom
Everyone stuck on an uninhibited island
Wow, that was long......... Well hopefully you get some good ideas from these. Keep up the great vids!

...I am an _ENFP._ I have lead Ne. ???
