22:50 How crazy to think that his ancestors left Norway in February of 1905, just a few months before the royals who became our King Haakon and Queen Maud (they took new names when they accepted to be our new royal family) arrived in Norway with their sweet little son who later became our very beloved King Olav (who passed away in January of 1991).
You mentioned that the colonel he’s talking about, Oberst Eriksen, was your grandfather’s cousin on the maternal side of your family. How interesting!!! 😊 Your post reminded me of this oddity. «Oberst» is oddly enough written «Colonel» (but pronounced «kernel» ☺️😉) in English. I always wondered why, as it seems very peculiar! I had to Google it and found this explanation for the huge difference between the spelling and pronunciation of this word: «It refers to the leader of a column of soldiers. The French altered the spelling and made it ‘coronel.’ Then the word came to the English language, brought by the French in the mid-1500s. By the mid-1600s, the spelling was changed in French to ‘colonel.’ The French changed the pronunciation, but in English the original pronunciation was kept with the ‘r’ sound. The word ‘coronel’ is pronounced in English the same as ‘kernel.’» LOL, man lærer så lenge man lever… 🤗 ♥️💟♥️
23:40 WOW, is it only me, or does he actually look like his ancestor Søren in the picture from way back? I think he looks a lot like his ancestor!!! 🤗❤❤❤
