I stupidly sold my GFX 50r a few years ago and I still miss it to this day. As soon as you mentioned the 45mm f2.8 i knew exactly what you were going to say, there's something about that lens/sensor/format that just works so well.

Sold a Mamiya 7 for a GFX 50R, didn't get along with it, sold it and bought back a Mamiya 7 and lens which I've been pretty happy with but now digital medium format is calling me again, damn you both. YAY GFX MENTIONED!! I'm a 50r user and its just a camera that absolutely inspires me to go out and take photos and this video DID not help feeling of wanting to use mine (im watching at work rn). That minolta is brilliant (it was the first lens I used on this system), but the mitakon is just a more superior lens. The images that are possible with that lens scratches that medium format itch, and its absolutely worth lugging that one around. I thought about getting the GF 45 2.8 but couldn't really justify the price so i went the fringer route and recently picked up the tamron 45 1.8 from ebay for less than $200 and that preforms so well (probably couldve bought the GF45 for the total amount but the adapter was an investment)!! The coverage is so good and I get the added bonus of in lens stabilization. Yeah the contrast AF is slow but when the camera produces such beautiful images that its so worth it! Yet another amazing video, and absolutely inspiring photos!! I'm always looking forward to the next video!! Have fun with your new system!! :))

I know videos on this topic are a dime a dozen but I’m so new to digital photography and your opinion is king in my mind so I would love to see you make a video on it anyway: file storage workflow and organization. Like a “storage for dummies” type of video tbh. Also, your videos are so inspiring and have been pushing me to move past the discomfort of learning how to shoot manual and on a DSLR. Thanks so much because I’m having a lot of fun and learning a lot quicker than I thought I would (which initially scared me away from shooting manual/DSLRS).

I was in France last year for about 10 weeks and fulfilled a long dream of digital medium format right beforehand. GFX 50R, Mitakon 65mm and 45mm 2.8 from Fuji. Can 100% vouch for your experience here. It's not super fast, but also not super slow, very nice pace to shoot with and the results coming out of these lenses are very distinct but in any case super beautiful. Totally fell in love with them.
As one fellow said “beyond was all around” I used medium format to learn on in 1965. Nothing since. I didn’t know you were a singer as well. I probably won’t make it to the ranch but your pictures will help. Thanks for taking us along.
100s shooter here and have two loves. 1 is using a baveyes focal reducer with mamiya 645 lenses. B.e.a.utiful. And 2 is adapting Canon ef lenses using a fringer adapter. Excitedly waiting for a tamron 45mm sp 1.8 to arrive from eBay! Lovely photos you got with yours.
Well that was very enjoyable new algorithm discovery.... you take beautiful inspiring images. I've been on a similar journey here in the uk, from D850's to GFX's. Amazing photos and welcome to the world of GFX! I have the 50S too (and the GS645S also), it's really a great camera especially for slow photography and love the possibility to use a variety of glass. The only regret I have at the moment is not using it enough!
My goodness, with that aftermarket evf, the thing is a beast! The images were gorgeous, though. My nieces and nephews are similar age to your little ones and they’re so fun to shoot. Always interesting to see you wrestle with falling into the abyss since we all grapple (unsuccessfully, in most cases) with it.
Man giving up that speed and accuracy for not to much more pop/ well maybe resolution is close but the separation and out of focus areas on like that Fuji 110/F2 ahhh (CHEF’S KISS!) MAYBE I NEED ONE TOO!!! 😮😂 I was a camera kid in the 80’s and used to shoot on a “Texas Leica” for stills and a CP16 (Super 16) cinema camera… I get it! As long as its not for professional use... Then again!!! ❤
Great video and images. I'm pondering the GFX 50s to do 'serious' photography but I've got used to a 28mm view so I'd need to find that version of a lens
thanks to UTube for suggesting your video, awesome images! I am a 40+ year Landscape photographer, and the many other types one has to do to make photography a carrier. I dropped my whole Canon 5dsr system two years ago for Fuji GFX, not one moment of regret! Just a passing point the 50sii is incrementally better than the old 50s and getting close to the same price. IBIS is worth the cost difference! The sensor is a wonder and so astoundingly good. I will admit I haven't yet adapted glass yet but your video encourages me to do so, thank you for that!
This is amazing! I love your description of both your actual and camera journey. I had the 100s until it got nicked but really I think the 50s looks great, because 100 megapixel images aren't needed. Anyway, thanks. So interesting.
Agree about the 645Z and the FotoDiox Vertex adapter (I use it with L-mount and 645 lenses). I was disappointed in the A-series 645 lenses - which feel great, and at f8 are 'OK' but I guess I have high expectations for sharpness and contrast (like Sigma Art lenses). I just picked up a used Sigma fp-L. But, certainly fun to experiment with. -Tom
I bought an Leica m adapter for my 50r and shot with the 50mm summicron, I loved loved it so so much. I'm happy that you can adapt everything to the fuji gfx system ; )
I've been playing with the Mitakon on the 100S for a month and it's amazing. I'm still getting the hang of it and don't think it's a "perfect" combo but I've had fun. You're convincing me that I should aim for the 45mm instead of the 55m because what I haven't done is really take my GFX out to the street that much. 35mm is the focal length I love the most. Going used hunting now! Also debating getting an adaptor to use my Mamiya RZ67 lense. Have you done that?
I feel like I went down a very similar journey at the start of the year. Got the 100s with the 45 and an adapter for my Rokkor 58 thinking it was just going to be an additional camera to my full frame setup. But then the images from the 45 completely ruined me and I sold the full frame gear. The weight is still a concern that I might get an additional aps-c camera in the future for things like hiking but in every other context I just love it.
Also I haven't seen as many people talking about the Rokkor 58 but this is such a fun lens, wide open it has a very vintage look to it with glowing highlights and then that is almost gone at f2 and it sharpens up really quick. I'm very torn between that and the 45 when I want something just to walk around with.
Ali, can you tell us please why you use the rear lcd viewfinder (Kamerar?) for photography? I thought it would be mainly used for filming because when in film mode the internal viewfinder is useless on most DSLRs (miror is up)...
More gas on the fire. I've really been wanting a 645D lately for landscape. I shot a fair amount of MF on an old Mamiya 220 but sold it and miss it. But now - the gfx50s seems like a better, more usable fix than the 645. Damn. BTW - I bought a 1D a while ago and had to go searching for the latest firmware. It was a comment you had left somewhere that led me to the file. Thanks! Also, I'm in the Indy area where Roberts (who runs used photo pro) is located. If you ever need to get eyes on something hit me up. They are pretty good people and the last real camera shop anywhere near here.
When I got my first mirrorless camera (the Sony A7iii) everyone told me to use vintage glass on it, but I was like “and lose this amazing Eye AF? Why?!”… but then I got the 50R, and this mix of big, heavy, expensive camera + mediocre autofocus + beautiful huge sensor and rich files just seemed to fit perfectly with a cheap, small and lightweight old prime lens!!! Right now I’m rocking the Minolta 55mm f/1.7 (also have the native 45mm and 110mm), but I want to try the Minolta 45mm f/2 or the Contax CY 45mm f/2.8, as soon as I find a good deal on one of them
Just came across your channel. Retired Pro Photographer. I would like to know your reason for the Fuji 50,and not the GFX 100. Forget the cost. Also since the Hasselblad H2d has a bigger sensor,did you consider it also. Back in the 1970s an 1980s, i shot a Hasselblad 500cm. LOVED it. I’m trying to get that look of film. Just sold my Z6 and Z7 for a deal on a 50s I saw in FB group didnt make it in time, the user sold. SO id figure I would just get a sony a7iii, the 55 zeiss, and the 85, and call it a day. But then I was like :naaaaaah" ive wanted this camera for a long time lets find it...found one on ebay for a decent price and it gets here right before Thanksgiving. So I am hype. I want to say you have a dope channel I like the way you review the cameras you pick up and how you use accessories with your cameras. I never would have thought to use Kamerar on a GFX. Your photographs are awesome and to me I think you have the best review on a GFX 50s camera it was very engaging to hear you speak about your experience and sparked some fire under my choice. Thank you for putting your review up on youtube. i just have one question is there a big difference between focusing in using the Kamerar Viewfinder versus the GFX Viewfinder?
I also struggled with Fujifilm files at times (XT series) but that GFX seems to be a whole new monster? But, Sigma remains where the heart is....right?
I've found the images from the 50mp Fuji cameras to be more pleasing than from the 100mp versions. For this reason I sold my GFX 100S. European 35mm vintage lenses seem to the cover the sensor better than Japanese lenses.
This was super. I feel like I am following in your footsteps. I too had the 645D and loved it, but my main problem is as a working tog I kinda feel I need to justify my cameras, if a body or lens is not making its buck then it has to go! And that is a terrible mindset to have, but it kinda is where I am at with photography currently. The 645D, aside from the bag space, was just so slow to review and the AF a little flunky to trust, that to get ONE client portrait shot right was just taking too long. Fine for personal projects and stuff, but then its kinda expensive for just 'my' shots... Currently I rock 2x XH2S, I need stacked sensor cameras for my orchestra/theatre client work (predominantly working in ES mode at high shutter speeds that normally would cause banding). But something is still missing, for those odd occasions I do slowed down controlled posed client portrait work I think I would like to get back to digital medium format and GFX it. The 50SII is winking at me... we'll see. Super excited to hear your thoughts on the 110/2 and if the LM really helps with a Contast Detection only AF system, how it differs from your 45/2.8 etc. The Mitakon looks a dream, but I shudder a little at the thought of going back to manual focus for faster paced client work as well... Once again, great talking piece, and I hope you persevere with that Rhino vortex thingy... I've thought about using that as well on my APS-C to get something a bit different... What a rich vlog!
I have the Pentax 645Z &, in spite of the weight, love it. The lenses are good, I use mainly manual focus, it handles well & the files work for me. It is however a beast of a camera! I have the dilemma of how many cameras do I need & I'm starting to settle into the Pentax 645Z & the repurchase of the Olympus Pen F digital which I sold & have regretted. I have some great primes for it which make it a great carry camera.
Hi can you tell me if there is an electronic shutter shoot availability with it? Looking at at a high shutter count used one. If the shutter breaks can you still shoot somehow?
@@OneMonthTwoCameras My favourite lens is the Voigtlander M 21mm color-skopar and that is adapted! The only other lenses I have are the 40mm summicron-c and a 180 R lens (which is absolutely stunning too). I hadn't bought into the L mount lenses yet but I was pretty close on pulling the trigger a few months ago. Now the camera has gone kaput and does not turn on (battery is good, the camera is just electrically dead). :( I love that camera too!
In your Video "My Entire Camera Collection + What Stays // What Goes" you said you sold your GFX because the lenses were to clinical. Did you change your mind? I also had the Pentax 645z as a replacement for my Pentax 67, but now I'm looking for something lighter..
It’s true that many of the native lenses can be clinical but as you’ll see in this video, there are many ways to work around that via adapting of other glass. This is where the mirrorless GFX beat out my 645D and Z for my use case
I had a Fuji Medium Format... until one day I was looking at my photos and realized the ones I liked... were all taken with my X100 and I couldn't distinguish it from my 50R.
Hahahaha, it happens to me all the time, too! I purchase new/old classic/vintage camera of a new to me system, I add a lens... and then another one, and another one XD
haha, I've really felt the "debate" in my bones ! I'm in the exact kind of situation right now, I have full frame cameras (Nikon D700, Z6, love those cameras so much), Fujifilm (X-T2, my first "serious" camera, I kept it even after moving to Nikon) and Micro-Four-Thirds (recently picked up an E-M5ii and some lenses, completely fell in love with it, and especially the small pancake lenses. Currently have the 14mm f/2.5, looking on getting the 20mm f/1.7 and some pancake zoom like the 12-32)... And so right now if I want the best image quality / AF possible I'll grab the Nikon, if I want a nice "good enough" camera that is small, unobtrusive but still packs a punch I'll grab the micro four thirds kit... so where does my Fuji kit fall in all of this? My APS-C lenses are technically smaller than the lenses I use on full frame... but looking at the kit size, I don't really have that big of a difference with full frame, especially if I use those wonderful Nikon 28 and 40mm prime lenses that are very light. It fits right in the middle, it's a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none, it's better at image quality and AF than the MFT, but worse than the FF. It's smaller than the FF, but much more than the MFT. And for all the things the MFT camera doesn't have (great DR / noise, better resolution) it compensates with pixel shift super resolution, super great IBIS or other modes like Live Composite and stuff. But at the same time I love shooting with all 3 systems, and he X-T2 is straight-up one of my favourite cameras ever made and I know I'd feel bad for selling it (also it sees quite a bit of use still, especially for video work, surprisingly) I hope you don't end up overthinking as much as I do, but damn, those "extreme" systems make the one that are in the middle look like compromises in comparison, especially if you have both ! If you're bothered about the original GFX 50S's large size (let's be honest it's a big boy), don't hesitate to take a look at the GFX50SII. It's relatively affordable used today (On MPB europe right now it's around the 2000€ mark, dunno about the local US market, the OG GFX 50S is around 1800€, so I imagine the price difference might not be that big even in the US, couple hundred bucks at most), still has that gorgeous 50MP sensor (and the same autofocus), but the body is much smaller, the EVF is integrated and also smaller, and you have a pretty damn excellent 7 stop IBIS that allows for VERY long exposures. I had the chance of holding one during a photowalk, and it's one hell of a camera, even if it's been eclipsed by the GFX100S and 100SII since. I think your call of not going for the GFX50R was the right one, not only is it absolutely overpriced compared to the S, but it's not even that great to hold... it's a big heavy slab that really doesn't provide the comfort you expect with a large body. It feels like having an oversized X-Pro in your hand, with a camera that didn't adapt the grip shape to accomodate for the increase in size... the "S" line is the way to go for sure, everything else is either like the R, or overpriced like the GFX 100 and 100II.
I am in EXACTLY the same spiral on my camera considerations! And wow I didn't realize that about the mark ii of this camera being smaller. I would likely have gone for that! I did try the R before the S and just didn't like the ergos at all. Happy I went with the S style.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Yes, the GFX 50SII is often overlooked because it's the GFX50S/R's sensor fit inside the GFX100S body, and since it was released after the 100S, it really didn't make any noise when it was released. It was released alongside the (pretty good) 35-70mm kit lens and I think the lens made more noise than the lens lol. But part of what made the GFX100S so good was the body that was barely bigger than your average full frame mirrorless camera, and if you don't need the 100MP, or can't pay the 6500 USD that it was launched at, the GFX50SII made a ton of sense, and the more time passes, the lower the price goes and the more sense it makes to me.
What was that final song? So catchy but I can't cheat and google the lyrics cause I'm a monolingual American simpleton. One day, I think I'll have to be on the GFX system. I love my Leica M right now... but the pop from proper medium format is just undeniable.

Amazing photos and welcome to the world of GFX! I have the 50S too (and the GS645S also), it's really a great camera especially for slow photography and love the possibility to use a variety of glass. The only regret I have at the moment is not using it enough!

My goodness, with that aftermarket evf, the thing is a beast! The images were gorgeous, though. My nieces and nephews are similar age to your little ones and they’re so fun to shoot. Always interesting to see you wrestle with falling into the abyss since we all grapple (unsuccessfully, in most cases) with it.

thanks to UTube for suggesting your video, awesome images! I am a 40+ year Landscape photographer, and the many other types one has to do to make photography a carrier. I dropped my whole Canon 5dsr system two years ago for Fuji GFX, not one moment of regret! Just a passing point the 50sii is incrementally better than the old 50s and getting close to the same price. IBIS is worth the cost difference! The sensor is a wonder and so astoundingly good. I will admit I haven't yet adapted glass yet but your video encourages me to do so, thank you for that!

If you are in the mood to try some more vintage glass for the GFX. May I recommend the Contax Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 AEG. Quite beautiful.

The 110mm is an incredible lens. If you like the look out of the 45mm in terms of colors and character you'll love it. It is A LOT of lens though.
I held it, and it was an absolute beast! That said, the photos I’ve seen make me want to endure the pain for the output😂

Agree about the 645Z and the FotoDiox Vertex adapter (I use it with L-mount and 645 lenses). I was disappointed in the A-series 645 lenses - which feel great, and at f8 are 'OK' but I guess I have high expectations for sharpness and contrast (like Sigma Art lenses). I just picked up a used Sigma fp-L. But, certainly fun to experiment with.

I bought an Leica m adapter for my 50r and shot with the 50mm summicron, I loved loved it so so much. I'm happy that you can adapt everything to the fuji gfx system ; )

I've been playing with the Mitakon on the 100S for a month and it's amazing. I'm still getting the hang of it and don't think it's a "perfect" combo but I've had fun. You're convincing me that I should aim for the 45mm instead of the 55m because what I haven't done is really take my GFX out to the street that much. 35mm is the focal length I love the most. Going used hunting now! Also debating getting an adaptor to use my Mamiya RZ67 lense. Have you done that?
I feel like I went down a very similar journey at the start of the year. Got the 100s with the 45 and an adapter for my Rokkor 58 thinking it was just going to be an additional camera to my full frame setup. But then the images from the 45 completely ruined me and I sold the full frame gear. The weight is still a concern that I might get an additional aps-c camera in the future for things like hiking but in every other context I just love it.
Also I haven't seen as many people talking about the Rokkor 58 but this is such a fun lens, wide open it has a very vintage look to it with glowing highlights and then that is almost gone at f2 and it sharpens up really quick. I'm very torn between that and the 45 when I want something just to walk around with.

Ali, can you tell us please why you use the rear lcd viewfinder (Kamerar?) for photography? I thought it would be mainly used for filming because when in film mode the internal viewfinder is useless on most DSLRs (miror is up)...
More gas on the fire. I've really been wanting a 645D lately for landscape. I shot a fair amount of MF on an old Mamiya 220 but sold it and miss it. But now - the gfx50s seems like a better, more usable fix than the 645. Damn. BTW - I bought a 1D a while ago and had to go searching for the latest firmware. It was a comment you had left somewhere that led me to the file. Thanks! Also, I'm in the Indy area where Roberts (who runs used photo pro) is located. If you ever need to get eyes on something hit me up. They are pretty good people and the last real camera shop anywhere near here.
Great video. I have the Fujifilm GFX50SII and 100SII with 6 native GFX lenses and the Mamiya 645 Sekor C 80mm f1.9 and 210mm f4 (Medium Format).

When I got my first mirrorless camera (the Sony A7iii) everyone told me to use vintage glass on it, but I was like “and lose this amazing Eye AF? Why?!”… but then I got the 50R, and this mix of big, heavy, expensive camera + mediocre autofocus + beautiful huge sensor and rich files just seemed to fit perfectly with a cheap, small and lightweight old prime lens!!! Right now I’m rocking the Minolta 55mm f/1.7 (also have the native 45mm and 110mm), but I want to try the Minolta 45mm f/2 or the Contax CY 45mm f/2.8, as soon as I find a good deal on one of them

Just came across your channel. Retired Pro Photographer. I would like to know your reason for the Fuji 50,and not the GFX 100. Forget the cost. Also since the Hasselblad H2d has a bigger sensor,did you consider it also. Back in the 1970s an 1980s, i shot a Hasselblad 500cm. LOVED it. I’m trying to get that look of film. Just sold my Z6 and Z7 for a deal on a 50s I saw in FB group didnt make it in time, the user sold. SO id figure I would just get a sony a7iii, the 55 zeiss, and the 85, and call it a day. But then I was like :naaaaaah" ive wanted this camera for a long time lets find it...found one on ebay for a decent price and it gets here right before Thanksgiving. So I am hype. I want to say you have a dope channel I like the way you review the cameras you pick up and how you use accessories with your cameras. I never would have thought to use Kamerar on a GFX. Your photographs are awesome and to me I think you have the best review on a GFX 50s camera it was very engaging to hear you speak about your experience and sparked some fire under my choice. Thank you for putting your review up on youtube.

I've found the images from the 50mp Fuji cameras to be more pleasing than from the 100mp versions. For this reason I sold my GFX 100S. European 35mm vintage lenses seem to the cover the sensor better than Japanese lenses.
This was super. I feel like I am following in your footsteps. I too had the 645D and loved it, but my main problem is as a working tog I kinda feel I need to justify my cameras, if a body or lens is not making its buck then it has to go! And that is a terrible mindset to have, but it kinda is where I am at with photography currently. The 645D, aside from the bag space, was just so slow to review and the AF a little flunky to trust, that to get ONE client portrait shot right was just taking too long. Fine for personal projects and stuff, but then its kinda expensive for just 'my' shots...
Currently I rock 2x XH2S, I need stacked sensor cameras for my orchestra/theatre client work (predominantly working in ES mode at high shutter speeds that normally would cause banding). But something is still missing, for those odd occasions I do slowed down controlled posed client portrait work I think I would like to get back to digital medium format and GFX it.
The 50SII is winking at me... we'll see.
Super excited to hear your thoughts on the 110/2 and if the LM really helps with a Contast Detection only AF system, how it differs from your 45/2.8 etc.
The Mitakon looks a dream, but I shudder a little at the thought of going back to manual focus for faster paced client work as well...
Once again, great talking piece, and I hope you persevere with that Rhino vortex thingy... I've thought about using that as well on my APS-C to get something a bit different...

The look coming out of the MINOLTA 58mm are absolutely amazing. Did you have any issues adapting it since, if I'm not mistaken, it as an aperture pin?

I have the Pentax 645Z &, in spite of the weight, love it. The lenses are good, I use mainly manual focus, it handles well & the files work for me. It is however a beast of a camera! I have the dilemma of how many cameras do I need & I'm starting to settle into the Pentax 645Z & the repurchase of the Olympus Pen F digital which I sold & have regretted. I have some great primes for it which make it a great carry camera.
Hi can you tell me if there is an electronic shutter shoot availability with it? Looking at at a high shutter count used one. If the shutter breaks can you still shoot somehow?

@@OneMonthTwoCameras My favourite lens is the Voigtlander M 21mm color-skopar and that is adapted! The only other lenses I have are the 40mm summicron-c and a 180 R lens (which is absolutely stunning too). I hadn't bought into the L mount lenses yet but I was pretty close on pulling the trigger a few months ago. Now the camera has gone kaput and does not turn on (battery is good, the camera is just electrically dead). :( I love that camera too!
In your Video "My Entire Camera Collection + What Stays // What Goes" you said you sold your GFX because the lenses were to clinical. Did you change your mind? I also had the Pentax 645z as a replacement for my Pentax 67, but now I'm looking for something lighter..
It’s true that many of the native lenses can be clinical but as you’ll see in this video, there are many ways to work around that via adapting of other glass. This is where the mirrorless GFX beat out my 645D and Z for my use case
How would you compare the 645D and the gfx50? Would you keep both?

I had a Fuji Medium Format... until one day I was looking at my photos and realized the ones I liked... were all taken with my X100 and I couldn't distinguish it from my 50R.
Hahahaha, it happens to me all the time, too! I purchase new/old classic/vintage camera of a new to me system, I add a lens... and then another one, and another one XD

haha, I've really felt the "debate" in my bones ! I'm in the exact kind of situation right now, I have full frame cameras (Nikon D700, Z6, love those cameras so much), Fujifilm (X-T2, my first "serious" camera, I kept it even after moving to Nikon) and Micro-Four-Thirds (recently picked up an E-M5ii and some lenses, completely fell in love with it, and especially the small pancake lenses. Currently have the 14mm f/2.5, looking on getting the 20mm f/1.7 and some pancake zoom like the 12-32)...
And so right now if I want the best image quality / AF possible I'll grab the Nikon, if I want a nice "good enough" camera that is small, unobtrusive but still packs a punch I'll grab the micro four thirds kit... so where does my Fuji kit fall in all of this? My APS-C lenses are technically smaller than the lenses I use on full frame... but looking at the kit size, I don't really have that big of a difference with full frame, especially if I use those wonderful Nikon 28 and 40mm prime lenses that are very light.
It fits right in the middle, it's a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none, it's better at image quality and AF than the MFT, but worse than the FF. It's smaller than the FF, but much more than the MFT. And for all the things the MFT camera doesn't have (great DR / noise, better resolution) it compensates with pixel shift super resolution, super great IBIS or other modes like Live Composite and stuff. But at the same time I love shooting with all 3 systems, and he X-T2 is straight-up one of my favourite cameras ever made and I know I'd feel bad for selling it (also it sees quite a bit of use still, especially for video work, surprisingly)
I hope you don't end up overthinking as much as I do, but damn, those "extreme" systems make the one that are in the middle look like compromises in comparison, especially if you have both !
If you're bothered about the original GFX 50S's large size (let's be honest it's a big boy), don't hesitate to take a look at the GFX50SII. It's relatively affordable used today (On MPB europe right now it's around the 2000€ mark, dunno about the local US market, the OG GFX 50S is around 1800€, so I imagine the price difference might not be that big even in the US, couple hundred bucks at most), still has that gorgeous 50MP sensor (and the same autofocus), but the body is much smaller, the EVF is integrated and also smaller, and you have a pretty damn excellent 7 stop IBIS that allows for VERY long exposures. I had the chance of holding one during a photowalk, and it's one hell of a camera, even if it's been eclipsed by the GFX100S and 100SII since. I think your call of not going for the GFX50R was the right one, not only is it absolutely overpriced compared to the S, but it's not even that great to hold... it's a big heavy slab that really doesn't provide the comfort you expect with a large body. It feels like having an oversized X-Pro in your hand, with a camera that didn't adapt the grip shape to accomodate for the increase in size... the "S" line is the way to go for sure, everything else is either like the R, or overpriced like the GFX 100 and 100II.
I am in EXACTLY the same spiral on my camera considerations! And wow I didn't realize that about the mark ii of this camera being smaller. I would likely have gone for that! I did try the R before the S and just didn't like the ergos at all. Happy I went with the S style.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Yes, the GFX 50SII is often overlooked because it's the GFX50S/R's sensor fit inside the GFX100S body, and since it was released after the 100S, it really didn't make any noise when it was released. It was released alongside the (pretty good) 35-70mm kit lens and I think the lens made more noise than the lens lol.
But part of what made the GFX100S so good was the body that was barely bigger than your average full frame mirrorless camera, and if you don't need the 100MP, or can't pay the 6500 USD that it was launched at, the GFX50SII made a ton of sense, and the more time passes, the lower the price goes and the more sense it makes to me.
What was that final song? So catchy but I can't cheat and google the lyrics cause I'm a monolingual American simpleton.
One day, I think I'll have to be on the GFX system. I love my Leica M right now... but the pop from proper medium format is just undeniable.
The 45 works great on almost all sensors
Used Photo Pro does a great job (my hometown buds). My last "fix" was a Nikon 100mm F2 5 Series E So light, sharp, and fun.
Those E series lenses are so great!
