- On this week's episode of the podcast, freeCodeCamp founder Quincy Larson interviews Jabril. He's an indie game developer who's building a turn-based fighting game called Ultrabouters.
Jabril has developed tons of other games as well. He runs the popular Jabrils gamedev focused-UA-cam. He's also published a 5-hour introduction to programming course on freeCodeCamp.
We talk about:
- Jabril's advice to gamedevs who want to make a career out of building video games
- How Jabril got into gamedev as a kid when he got a copy of GameMaker
- Jabril's career working at a comedy club and a radio station
- The anime that Jabril's been working on for years
- Why Jabril puts an "s" at the end of his name
Can you guess what bass line I'm playing on my bass during the intro? It's a 2009 song that became popular in the 2010's by being associated with a meme.

I thought Jabrils communicated telepathically.
I also have seen many videos saying that Python was not worth learning but as I have been studying Python for a while and been focused on Data Analysis and it is a very powerful language.
I am where you where trying to pick a language, python looks the most appealing and i think i just have to pick one and start coding with it. I am starting computer science in september but i also want to know a language. So many choices and rabbit holes......
Another wonderful day with this episode 🎉❤
As always this was another great broadcast. You guys brought up some very good info about Python, Anime, Matrix, and the X-Men! Thanks, Quincy, for taking us from the beginning of Jabril's story, it's always good to know where coders come from. Looking forward to next weeks commentary.😃
Awesome. I'm glad you're digging these.

Hi 👋 Quincy! I’m new to game dev, about 8 months in, but it would be dope to reach the level of being interviewed by you. Awesome episode Jabril 🤩
Enjoy the honeymoon phase with gamedev. So much to learn.
