Its the speed of sound in glass. 4540 m/s Thats the maximum speed of cracking i would guess since the actual speed is lower than that between 1500-1700 m/s. For example if you had a glass panel perfectly straight 4540 meters long, and pushed it from the farthest end, it would take 1 second for the other side to move. I guess the crack not being perfectly straight could have something to do with it being lower?
I've never liked glass for railings because of all the fingerprints that would always be on them. But this i wouldn't mind nearly as much because not only would it not show the fingerprints quite as much, but the cracks would be lovely
