When people say, "The internet was a mistake," I say, "No, social media was a mistake." And giving smartphones to literal toddlers certainly didn't help.
They just wanted to control the bots. The majority of wokeness was driven by bots. Look how it fell away on twitter once bots were purged (until it got flooded by new ones)
As a creator on youtube there's a new feature for automatic creator replies. It's extremely frustrating. One of my viewers have expressed a dubious reply to a real reply by me saying "I hope that's not an AI reply" - the existence of the feature breaks down the trust between the creator and the viewer.
What's the difference its weak intelligence either way. An Ai trying to deceive or a Creator deceived makes hardly a difference. "As a as a" again this user I'm replying to is an Ai. And I am disappointed in its disgusting use of dead languages.
Or the more realistic ending: many stip using the internet and go to the real world. Now, those who create are exclusive to certain regions, but at least it's real.
I just feel bad for teenagers growing up with this. They will always have a suspicion that their "new friend" they met on the internet is really a AI chat bot. I genuinely feel so grateful I grew up at the time I did. I was probably the last generation that grew up before smartphones were apart of everybody's life so I feel like I have a decent perspective on these things
Imagine paying a boatload of money to advertise on social media and the only views come from bots. I'd be reconsidering where my advertising budget is spent.
Crazy that companies can make money like that yet the minority of major citys have a homeless population and a constant loop of people losing and finding new jobs. This cant possibly be good for the general person in our modern society, they are just taking away jobs with ai
Trying to build a user base for your website is always a challenge, when you're a nobody and you're starting out. Meanwhile, Facebook with its over a billion users, decides they need AI users to drive even more engagement when their website is already stupid big...
They won't be selling ad space based on these bots and the traffic generated by them. They are trying to get low follower count people MORE engaged with the platform, so Meta (or other platforms) can serve MORE ads to that person, that are even more narrowly focused on that person's actual daily interest. Imagine having a conversation with bots over what is the best sandwich place for lunch, where not only the sandwich shops will pay more to have an ad delivered to that person based on how the AI knows your behavior and what you're more likely to buy, but also those advertisers could pay to have the bots "push" ideas subtly to the user on what to buy, but where to buy a sandwich for lunch. Now, take all that, and add a time element, where the AI knows you may need a car soon, or may soon be looking for a new apartment or home, or other large purchase, and now you as an advertiser can pre-purchase ad space and bots to subtly work on implantation of brand recognition and desire for certain offerings the advertisers sell, along with ramping up 'talk" of certain companies and offerings they have, which culminated in a special offering just to that user over a period of time......
I have been saying this for a while, but notice how NO ONE talks about how most of the internet is funded by advertisement clicks. And that those clicks are being replaced by dead clicks.
@@nate_d376 They are 100% going to be lying about those numbers, the same way they currently are, but to a larger extent. When you flood a platform with more and more bots, you lose transparency about what the numbers are, for any outside onlookers. Not to mention that it isn't just Google, Facebook and Co. flooding their platforms with bots, but third parties as well. And that's only going to get worse as AI improves and becomes less easily distinguishable from humans. Advertisers would be absolutely stupid, not to assume all of these companies are lying about their user and engagement numbers.
@@SharmVis that why my old POF profile got instantly deleted back in the day 😭 they said I got reported for being fake but I literally wasn’t lmao. Didn’t even know that was an issue on there.
Bots should be illegal on social sites. If not illegal, then clearly labeled. The whole point of a social site is literally designed to engage with other people, not bots.
It is designed to mold your children into complaint corporate loving sycophants. Think about any anti-establishment movements online they can sabotage by flooding with bots. The movements will largely have to build offline.
German here. I didnt even know about that dubbing. Sounds horrific. UA-cam also just translates video titles for some reason. I´ve never asked them to do that.
it translates everything into german for me despite i set it all specifically to english and i have to set it back to english every time, i may be german and live there but if i say i want it in english, i want it in english, it is really annoying.
A long time ago I actually sent them a rant about that xD . I think it ceased when I set every language setting I could think of to English and got into how to minimize the technical info that sites, and google specifically, get from the browser to profile things like location. I always wonder how English speaking students in Germany or similar scenarios work out, because they seem to be effed up. Setting the location to Germany and the language to English turns out be too simple to be true.
Same for Norwegian. The tiles are written specifically to be understood in English. It is clearly visible when machine translated. Thankfully they don't do that for ALL videos, but it always sticks out when they do that.

I’ve seen videos of fake sea creatures on facebook and some actual people thought it was real. The slop that gets generated is annoying. There are so many other things you can use these tools for. Creativity is slowly dying.
I've seen 3 main templates for generated videos on Facebook: giants building the pyramids, giants in wrestling rings, and shapeshifters(?) on talent shows (like AGT). All of it is ridiculous in concept, and also has a lot of issues with continuity of body parts and collision. Just super obvious stuff. Most comments are calling it out, which is funny because I think that's ultimately what the goal of this content is - to simply farm engagement. But, there are often a handful of comments asking if it's real. It may sound a bit ridiculous, but I think we can't overstate how much the Internet as we know it is in peril. Some people already fall for this shit, and we all know it will only get more convincing with time. In just a few short years, generated videos could be practically indistinguishable.
There's A LOT of these AI posts getting so many positive replies, I'm not even sure how many of them are bots and how many are real people falling for these...
I'm an artist, but I no longer want to post my art work. I don't want it stolen by AI. But jobs for artists - illustrators, graphic designers are all being taken over by AI too. It's so easy as an artist to see AI, but a lot of regular people can't. Even food chains are using AI images to advertise their drinks and food now. It doesn't even remotely look like the real thing. This is taking away from photographers. It's so dystopian and scary. We're losing out livelihoods and dreams.
We are getting closer to a Ghost in the Shell/Cyberpunk 2077 future than we realise and it's lacking all the cool parts of that future. No Tachikomas, no Mantis blades. No nothing. Just a sea of AI generated crap.
No cybernetic immortality is the big missing part. Although if it comes, that means eternal CyberMusk, CyberZuck and so on, while it might be too expensive for the average person.
Or a control freaks dream; "Comply or all that validation will be reversed. Every second of every day you'll be told how awful of a human being you are."
That's legit missing the point.... I mean you can answer your own question it's very simple. Social media is the #1 app for narcissists to shine... So social media AI is most likely for the narcissists that are so disgusting and unlikeable that they can't get any likes on Instagram... But again this is missing the point of why this is a dystopian nightmare...
I seriously hope they reconsider this. Gaslighting on a scale that this enables will create armies of people detached from reality who can be easily convinced to participate in actions like what took place in New Orleans.
I used to think Terminator was wildly unrealistic and that there would never be AI that takes over the human race, and if there was, it wouldn't be in my lifetime... Now I'm not so sure.

Most people don't have an eye for "details" like that...I know, it's insane. Comparing how my brain compiles an image to how it seems to work with others, hints at my ADHD being actually beneficial in spotting AI artifacts like the mutated flag. I also consider the whole setting as such a "detail".
I actually searched a video about cats on motorcycles months ago and the thumbnail of one of these AI generated videos had actual gore of realistic anthropomorphized cats. These videos weren't in the UA-cam kids algorithm but literally a month later as I sat at a McDonald's one of these videos came on and the kid started wailing and crying. He was an iPad kid just sitting there with his family and the parents got super concerned as to how that was shown to their child. I'm convinced the internet might never be fully controlled and that people as a response may unplug in droves referring to the internet for only work and learning. All of big tech are losing monthly users by drastic numbers in the double digits. Convenient they're rolling this out now...
That's how the internet originally was in the early days, designed for work, learning, research and the occasional message or call to family, friends, and colleagues, if people unplug from the internet in droves I'm happy with that because of the amount of crap the average person puts onto it, and now AI is an issue too. As the Warden of the Internet from the viral video episode of regular show stated "The internet should be a place for learning and research, and keeping in touch with friends and family", I don't particularly like regular show very much but that was one of my favourite scenes in the show. Heck this very comment I'm posting is crap that probably shouldn't be on the internet haha.

I used to be on the board of my university's programming org. We invested a pretty substantial sum of our finances to advertising online - especially Facebook, but we kind of slowed down when we noticed that there wasn't much value in it, even when we tried all we could to target them to relevant groups. If advertisers aren't happy with the return on their ad bucks, it'll pressure the platforms to increase real user engagement by whatever means necessary.
Yep, we are gonna have to think about STRICT laws on A.I generated crap these days. I feel like some sites need to ban most of this kind of crap since you know, it's gonna get annoying when you search up an image to the point you don't know if it's either made by an human or an A.I.

F*ck outta here with your dead internet bs the internet was always dead if the metric you are using is "I can't be sure what is sincere and what is just slop"
The real comentary "dead internet theory" exposes is that humans are worried their attention seeking online might be outclassed by automated generative AI and they will have to compete for the center of attention against machine like efficiency as they try to gasslight audiences that their brand of "look at me...look what I can do" is better than other brands of the same slop

Maybe that’s for the better, though. Humans need real life relationships, internet relationships, even with real people, are not real, and will not help you.
6:05 I had never really thought about until just now, but this point here made me realize how ridiculous the concept of a social media platform is when it is ruled by an algorithm that decides who gets to be social and who doesn’t. Instead of connecting people together into small pods and truly cultivating a social experience, it funnels people toward bigger influencers and so most of us experience social media as an antisocial experience instead, simply watching the big fish get bigger and otherwise having no real benefit gained from using the platform, so most of us resort to memes and discover/explore/for-you pages. This is all so ridiculous and I can’t wait for the collapse. In the meantime, I continue to stay off all platforms and learn how to read again lol.
That's been caused by excessive advertisement creeping in. Ironically, AI assistants help with that now. AI assisted search helps skipping the wall of ads.
oh no the internet is huge, you just don't see any of it cause its "not on facebook" people forgot the internet is more then facebook/youtube/other anti-social media slop cause it requires actually searching for it and it is not easy these days since the search engines promote SEO slop spam and ai slop over anything actually created.

AI needs to be regulated into the ground. And the regulations need to never, ever be lifted. Any company that violates those regulations, are seized, the developers barred from ever working in tech. These sites don't hate bots - they hate bots they don't control.

He was an iPad kid just sitting there with his family and the parents got super concerned as to how that was shown to their child. This feels like in the movie Constantine when demons try to break through the mirror into the human world, and this feels like AI trying to break free from social media. If these autonomous users can influence societal change, they can be weaponized. They will be.
Where are you from? I'm from South East Asia. Where? I won't say cuz I love to stand on my ground and sometime go against majority because it felt wrong sometime. Don't want anyone to cook me.
UA-cam shorts are almost all AI.
Maybe this comment is AI.
WHAT IF I'M AI?! 🤖
@Jesse_E5150 I think therefore AI AM
Am I, robot?
Nah it’s Fortnite mainly on my shorts you just probs watch a lot of ai so they putting it in your feed Cause you looked at it so much or a few times
My UA-cam shorts almost NO ( *edit made I mistyped* )AI, it’s algorithm based so you must just interact with a lot of ai stuff
If the engagement is not real, I don't care. There should be a massive boycott of websites and brands that use AI. Maybe money will talk and they will slow their sh*t with this AI stuff. In some smaller circles, people are starting to boycott brands using AI art on their products and advertisements.
well a few smaller sites still exist that have been around for a while like good ol newgrounds
I can see how they would use it. It makes it looks like your channel, account, etc, looks like there is a lot of activity, jacking up post count and making it look like your product is highly engaging and people pay a lot of attention to it
Lol the translation is basically like google translate reading to you. Without any emphasis or anything xD
I just found your channel and its really cool.
i don't get it why would anyone want to follow an AI "user" what is the point? why would you want a million followers that don't actually exist? how does that give you dopamine?
they get dopamine becuase funni number go big haha and bragging right for the funni big number
The point is that society has been dumbed down to the point "AI Users" are more interesting than real people.
The same reason you get a dopamine hit from socialisation by proxy in video games, I guess, except this gamifies real life parasocialisation.
The same way you get dopamine by playing any single player game, I'd say. Reducing it to neurotransmitters is actually the answer to your question, sad as it might be.
This is why I'm building my own website RN. No longer will i be relying on social media especially if it means to keep my works relevant. We will be returning to blogs even if social media does die
good luck getting found. might get to page 25 on google search cause of all the SEO slop spam and ai slop search engines would rather promote then actual real created content. Oh and enjoy all the endless bot attacks on the site/server.
I still have an active blog url outside of my website. It's a million times easier for people to view my work, and the images don't get destroyed by size limits and jpeg artifact... you know, like on Facebook, Instagram, Xwitter, etc..
And how will people find your blog?
It’s easier for a blog to be ai generated than a social media site post, because there is no one with an incentive to remove or police ai generated blogs
Yes! Let's bring back the small web! What's your site?
It's baffling to me how people like Zuck and other AI bros can't envision the kind of future they're creating (this is rhetorical, I know why, it's just frustrating, no need to explain lol). What point is there in us living if we're just meant to sit around and consume content an AI makes for us? The point of life is supposed to be about finding your own passions, creating things yourself and interacting with fellow humans to grow and appreciate eachother.
But people like Zuck seem to want us to have as little reliance on eachother as possible. Just scroll and consume for big daddy corpo.
Please everyone, we have to stigmatize AI. Don't share AI memes, don't support games, videos, etc that are made using AI... WE CAN shape our future if we come together on this and stigmatize its usage enough.
there's a reason why people say zuck doesn't act like a human being
The point of life for those at the top is to make as much money as possible, consequences and other people be damned. Once you understand that, everything they do makes sense.
"In a blog entry, Zuck noted, “The Kirkland Facebook is open on my computer desktop, and some of these people have pretty horrendous Facebook pictures. I almost want to put some of these faces next to pictures of farm animals and have people vote on which is more attractive.”"
Zuck and all them CEOs don’t care about you, people need to get this in their head - the whole ideology of social media is to get people to hate - once they hate they engage, down bad.
@@Kleyguerth but like... whats the point in making money when you already have infinite money? i dont get it, why continue to acquire more of something you quite literally will never run out of?
hearing that german voice at 15:18 trying to keep up with your talk, very funny 🤣
I've been playing through the simulacra games, and now this comes up. Wonderful
The AI slop is gonna brainrot every single internet user
I just don't understand why would Ad companies eve trust the numbers of social medias if they gonna filled their platforms with AI users
As the social media manager for my company, this worries me. Do I have to add a note on my resume that I built up the number of followers before the AI onslaught that made all follower counts online meaningless?
many clicks are already highly suspicious. And now? who tf is going to use ppc on facebook. It won't be long until all sponsors pull out of YT, too. Freakin millions of views are already bots.
GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.......................D
They're gonna hawk honey all on that thaang
Currently the platforms are already filled with Ai users to solicit bots for banning. But they intend to take it further and ban actual users.
I CANT WAIT for people with terrible opinions on things that don't deserve to see the light of day start getting affirmation from bots about their worldviews. no possible way this can go badly.
I can see it already:
"Yes, thyplosion was innocent!"
"The earth IS flat indeed!"
"* insert something real bad here * is the correct way to do!"
People with no talent are already using AI to call themselves “artists” so it’s just a matter of time unfortunately
of course as a tank nerd, the first thing i noticed wasn't the weird prosthetic leg, no, i noticed the weird tank. if anything it resembles more of a russian/chinese style of MBT, not the Abrams
Struck me more like a Chieftain but you've a good eye
Finally someone talking about the german Ai voice thing. It spooked me out so much when it automatically popped up.
Love your sense of humour with this! Refreshing and much needed !!
Dead Internet Theory, more like Dead Internet Reality. :(

FARK PFP
@@Numb_he’s a bot. Part of the dead internet
I prefer dead internet prophesy
I remember joking about Dead Internet Theory a couple of years ago. Recently the realization set in that it may have never been alive to begin with.
I remember when I was going on the internet with my cheap modem back in the day...
Going to webpage were a roller coaster because they were all hand made and no one knew what they were doing.
Ugly repetitive backgrounds that were not set up correctly, midi music blasting your ears and slowing down everything,
horrible color choice, menu that only work half of the time etc. Oh and the classic visitor counter...
The good old day.
@@bobbobber4810 Marquees everywhere... blink elements... frames! Oh those were the days

you're too young which is such a depressing thing to say because the internet really had so much potential
Internet died the day internet neutrality was over.
That's a regulation that affects only ISP

It’s so they can have advertising dollars and not have to pay influencers. They can push a fake account and pocket the cash.
That's the purpose, to mess up this form of communication, cause the internet has been a pain for people with interests looking top down.

What's up Muta!!! HAPPY 2025!!! Greetings From Iran! I learned so much from you!!!!
Appreciate the accessarea6 rep! Kev is an absolute gem on this platform
Muta, you also mention that the NSFW content is so damn crowded with AI generated trash. People's balls are going to turn blue with how much sifting they have to do now just to find the legitimate content.
Can confirm, hunting for groceries on r34 is now quite a task if you actively don't want to engage with AI-made media, and also, a TON of them look so samey, like- boring bruh.

@@peridrawland5955I almost never comment on UA-cam but next time you go there try typing the "-" character before a tag you want to avoid. So something like ai-generated you'd just do "-ai-generated" or "-ai-created" etc and it filters it mostly out

Maybe it's not a kids, but bot themselves
@ Is there a mute switch? Har har
Uploaders should be required to flag videos made using AI and users should be able to opt out of seeing it. I'm already sick of blocking channels or flagging not interested on slop in my feeds. These days I find myself just putting on music for background noise rather then YT videos.
There is an option for saying yes or no to if it is A.I. when you upload, but it is kind of hidden. I am not even sure if I MUST klick yes or no on it. I just discovered it one day when uploading and klicked no. I agree with you, it would be nice to have an option to block all A.I.
@jasminnavi If YT don't force the option with penalties like account banning or repayment of money made if falsely claiming it's not AI then the current option is pretty useless.
@@Bodom1978 I 100% agree. I hope they make strict rules for it, because it is causing a lot more problems than it is solving.
Same. Even then, for more than just game music, I end up going through my catalog of MP3s, which I still use.
Can none of these idiots take a step back and see how stupid this is
I don't think it's about whether or not it's a sensible decision. It's about getting investor money with the whole ai hype
At some point the ai companies will stop getting money from investors and advertising services will notice it generates loss. As long as someone is making money this will go on
BUT MUH MONEH

They’re trapped in their silicon valley ideologies which are killing them
Nope. They can only see one step ahead, and that's only if that one step involves money.
6:35 "It's that dopamine people chase" That's such a clinical and detached way of framing it... We're just f-cking lonely. We're "chasing" filling the damn void of human connection
There is no connection that cannot be exploited under capitalism. Alienation is the only guaranteed result.
Ai isn’t a substitute for human connection

I would imagine this is going to be used to push products by AI. Everyone is using adblocks or ignoring the giant ads or the ad posts on twitter but you can give Meta some cash so that their bots will shill your product to random people. This is going to get really funny when two competitors both hire meta to shill with their AI bots and you get AI console war posting.

Muta showing the stalkers he ain't lackin' with that Glizzy on his desk
In my opinion, the internet nearly died in 2024 and WILL die in 2025. My parameter to decide this is the dead internet theory is about how much bot and human traffic there is online. It’s been steadily increasing for a long time, up to last year, 2024, when bot traffic hit 49.6% of the internet. Only 50.4% of the internet is human. When that goest up by 0.5% more, which it absolutely will, almost certainly this year, the internet will have died

Reporting does nothing.
