Actually, the programme on BBC1 was Best of British shown after Blazing Saddles. The incident happened just after midnight so not much ado but there was trouble on BBC2, Samuel Beckett's Endgame had to end nearly halfway through.
I was under the impression it was Blazing Saddles and the Olympics coverage that got interrupted. Points of View not long after this mentioned late night olympics coverage being interrupted one night and I thought it was to do with this.

Michaela Saunders apologised for a technical problem, then Time Kode played over a holding slide then tone kicked in before Winter Sun played, then a BBC2 logo appeared with a similar announcement acknowledging the fact that Open University tutors and students would be contacted with a new date for Endgame being re-transmitted followed by a rundown of the next evening's programmes, then clock into closedown.

I can confirm that it was the Olympics coverage which was interrupted and the Endgame programme was re-transmitted a fortnight later.@@bluefrogTV_
BBC2 did not show Endgame at all and was re-scheduled the following week and I remember actually staying up one night and recording it
