    I think this sounds better than the Theo Wannes. I don't know what it is about Dukoffs but they are so full of rich overtones and sound unique

      I thing the closest comparison is the Metal Datta. The Metal Datta is more like a well trained German Shepard compared to the Dukoff M8's Pit-bull. The Datta is overall easier to play in the altissimo register with a much higher range also but nothing really compares to that BALLISTIC DUKOFF SOUND!! The Shiva 2 is something altogether different.

      I used to play dukoff super power chamber miami florida. But it's not even close to a Theo Wanne Kali Mouthpiece. Overtones of the Dukoff are really flat

      No squeaks and full rich rounded sound on Dukoff.

    Nice video.... well done! I've got a Dukoff and so was interested in your opinion. Nice playing! I like your sense of detail and description of "cheek" and "chin" on the piece... it helps to have this sort of vocabulary in the discussion. Thanks again... am working my way through all your videos... Never too old to learn, I figure.

    Sounds awesome. I'd be curious what a new one would sound like as well and wonder if a mouthpiece repairman could fix the rail ding to improve an already great sounding piece. I've listened to all of the mouthpiece reviews so far and this definitely stands out with its power and sound. Thanks again for your videos.

      Thanks. I might leave well enough alone. Both my Dukoffs have crazy defects so maybe that is the secret ingredient!! LOL I'll be much more inclined to try the newer ones and see how they compare to these old ones.

      I have an 20 year old dukoff D7 tenor and it's extremely loud and bright, almost out of control wild sounding and I like it alot. However I recent bought a brand new D9 for my tenor and here is the difference. The craftmanship on the new ones is much better, this mouthpiece is perfectly symmetrical and seems to be not quite as insanely bright as the older D7 however it can be pushed to play as loud a you damn well please and has a bit fatter sound in the upper register. Another advantage is the altissimo is effortless with the D9. I like very open tips though. I have to use a vandoren green java 3 reed because anything harder is exhausting because of the open tip. I've tried Red Javas and I don't like the way they sound on this piece (too airy and mellow for me). The greens have more attack and crisper sound. I know you like more smaller tip openings. I bet you would love a brand new D7. I kind of wish I bought a D8 but this D9 has balls. I ended up selling my Shiva Destroyer back to Sam Ash and I got $400 for it (only paid $525) so i didnt get burned too bad on it. Sorry for such a long post. I actually have a video of my playing the D7 on this channel. Let me know what you think. Peace out, brother!

    Crazy, I knew a cat, Fulton Turnage, back in 85. He played on an M-8. He sounded exactly like Grover. But my memory of that M-8 was that it had a lower baffle almost like a link, crazy. you sounded like Grover for a minute there as well. I used to play on a D-8 and the baffle on it is similar but I think higher. I play on a link NY model. Also used to play on a strathon. People told me then I sounded exactly like Stan Getz. But that's when I had chops. :)

      Thanks for tuning in to my channel. I'm currently trying to find some kind of hybrid between the M8 and the L8 that I reviewed.

    How do these coompare to "D" Chamber Dukoffs in sound? I have a D8 for my tenor and a D9 for alto and they are loud as hell amd bright. In other words I love Dukoffs.

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  7 років тому

      Sorry but I don't have any "D" chamber pieces. It seems like Dukoff may have changed their letter designation from when these old pieces were new though. I can't seem to find any pictures on their website of the chambers either. :(

      In my experience, the M chamber always sounded and played better but it was always hard to hear myself in a live electric situation.

    • @Njderig
      @Njderig Рік тому

      @@Trizno M and D have the same size chamber, the only difference is the D has a steeper more aggressive step baffle giving an even brighter tone. My experience is the D pieces sound excellent on tenor but are too bright and thin on alto. M sounds much better on alto and I have recently picked one up and love it. I never tried M on tenor but it probably sounds great too.

      @@Njderig my first "jazz" mouthpiece was a alto m5 because I dropped my stock type mouthpiece on the floor in 12th grade band.
      Before this my mentor let me borrow his m8* tenor mouthpiece. It was a monster to play, but made my tenor sound like Grover Washington.
      I've had a love/hate relationship with Dukoff mouthpieces ever since. I've settled on a Berg 130/0m on tenor. The bullet cut in the baffle gives a great compromise between what I've enjoyed between the D & M chambers of previous Dukoffs I've owned.

    • @Njderig

      @@Trizno wow a 130 tip opening is crazy. You must have massive lungs. Grover Washington has a badass tone. I should look for a vintage Miami Dukoff M to vary my tone. I have a 3 Dukoff Ds and an S chamber. All are between 7 and 8. 105 to 110 feels natural for me with 115 being the upper limit. Anything bigger feels too open for me. It’s interesting how we have such a wide variation of setups from player to player.

      This is an old Dukoff. I think they changed what the letter designation represents on the ones they make now. The Dukoff website would be a great place to look. I can't give any comments on them because I haven't played any of the new ones

  • @ChrisDragotta

    I think the metal used in the Dukoffs impart much of the tone. What is it? Aluminum? Doesn't look like brass or steel.
    Altissomo gets stuck probably due to ding in rail.

    I have watched your video reviews on certain mouthpieces and I think they are just great. I really like the attention to detail that you give on each mouthpiece. I like all 3 mouthpieces that you play in this video but the one that stands out for me is the Dukoff. I don't own a Dukoff but it sounds amazing. I am currently playing on a Jody Jazz DV 8* and the Super Jet 8* for Tenor Sax. I am also using a Jody Jazz DV 7* for Soprano Sax. They are great mouthpieces. Can you do a review on Jody Jazz mouthpieces? I am anxious to know what you think about these line of mouthpieces.

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  6 років тому

      Thanks for tuning in to my channel. It really depends on the player and what is comfortable. One person might be able to get more sound out of a lower facing and some a higher one. I use a very relaxed embouchure so I prefer a lower tip opening with medium reeds.

    What does it mean "old but not vintage" please? I think rhis mouthpiece can be from half of 70ties. This is old enough to be vintage.

      People usually refer to the Dukoffs from the 1950's as the vintage ones
